(Msg 53) Too many think of what would benefit them and not the terminally ill....when convincing the one they love to have treatment.

Amen to that. The same goes for elderly family members. Rather than let them go they'll insist they be kept alive, placed in a care facility to live out their days depending on strangers to look after their needs. A living Hell!

I think the greatest act of love is when someone is there for a person in sickness and in health and not in it for what pleasure you can get but there for the person . If love had gone let the person go and don't make the person's life a living hell. Give them the love and comfort and tender reassurances.

DrayonRed welcome to our thread...

Your bang on the money with forgiveness being a Great Act of Love and it is the act we all need since there is know such thing as the perfect man or women.

Yet...Perhaps I'm wrong with the last statement. Your picture reminds me,
that there was at least one man. The Father of Forgiveness himself,. Jesus.

Jesus if you can hear me... lol... forgive me for I have sinned against you!!!

I had my dusty old bible out this morning and I was reminded of this man's words.

John chapter 15 verses 12, 13 (King James)

12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

These are the words of the Father of Forgiveness, “Jesus”

Perhaps to many he acted out the Greatest Act of Love!!!
He practiced what he preached and change life as we know it.

Still, there are many other Great Acts of Love and we would all like to hear from you!

SO WHAT'S YOUR TAKE... or view?

GREAT take!

In the case of a kidney...

Before death:

It would be a greater act of love since there is a risk to the donor.

After death:

It's still an act of love in my books if you fill out that donor card and let
them cut you up in the name of progress and to help some stranger.

What a thought!

Two things come to mind.....the utmost greatest act of love ever committed was when Jesus died on the cross.....

Secondly, to take your own life for the life of your child....as in the movie "John Q"

hmmmmm........I skipped most of the posts, so sorry if this has been said!

For me it will be meeting and starting a relationship with a woman, who has been hurt, belittled, abused, had their heart broken and pretty much given up! Take her hand and look her in the eyes and say, "I love you", and mean it! And to show her everyday that it is true! To be able to show her a whole different world exists!

p.s. the above do not have to exist just examples of previous pains!

evenow...I totally agree, and that hurts, I've been there before, thought if I showed and told her everyday, that it would sink in.....it didn't!

But every once in awhile, you meet someone where, what I'm saying will mean the world to them. To look in their eyes and watch them light up, because those words went straight to their heart! That's what I'm talking about.

Hopefully it IS out there for me!

I'd buy him a beer or wine or whatever as well richie rich

Maybe it will happen for you Sam.Sometimes people shut down and build walls to protect an already shattered heart.Maybe your love can save her Sam or maybe she'll end up saving you.Or not!!

very true my friend...maybe I'll be saved!

This isn't about some "hero" or "saving a damsel in distress" I think we all get to that point at sometimes in our lives. The "I give up " thing! It's about two people, on the same page connecting. Then embracing it, not running, hiding or building walls of protection! Feeling secure enough to to "give in" to that person.

Kudos for those willing to do that.I salute them really. Some losses one never heals from and it makes life easier for a person to keep it real and keep it simple. If you refuse to allow yourself to love like you once did it just skips things along nice and easy. It's nice to know people still believe in fairy tales.I'm not being a smartass,i applaud you for your kind heart and i hope you and everyone find what it is that completes them.

Happy New Year btw pofers!!

Following on from that

It takes a lot of love to allow somebody to break down your barriers. You are right evennow, those barriers are there for a reason, and to trust somebody enough to let them hurt you again is not an easy thing to do

I hope we all find that somebody - and Happy new year to you too

sambucadawg... your post caused me to sneeze.. means I was so emotionally overwhelmed by it that I was for a little while unable to get thoughts in order. That is the sort of person I would hope someday to meet.. someone who would show that sort of love... that is beautiful...WoW

The greatest act of love is giving it away.LOVE is the one thing that the more I keep it to myself the more it shrivels and dies and the more i give of it the more it comes back to me.I CAN'T KEEP IT TO MYSELF.For me it's in giving that i receive.

heavenscheubangel..

I read this tread a couple times and I couldnt honestly come up with a "greatest" act of love. We see displays of love around us every day and when we least expect it. then I read your post and it hit me....

To let someone die. I have seen many having cancer treatments....even though they don't want to. It will only prolong their life by a month or two....yet those few "extra" months are filled with agonizing nausea and pain....why prolong this?

Too many think of what would benefit them and not the terminally ill....when convincing the one they love to have treatment.

That has to be among the top five definatly. One of the hardest things to do is to let someone you love go under any circumstance, but sometimes to put your own feelings aside and make that decision is an ultimate display of love.

honestly the greatest act of love is love unconditionally. Sometimes the greatest way to show love is to walk away if love isn't a two way street any more. In fact don't walk away... run fast.. I am not advocating not putting every effort into a relationship but when it is time to sign off then do so pleasantly and with friendship. For who knows somewhere down the line you just might wish that friend as more than a friend..

Letting someone go when you know your not right for them .

Holding your daughter when she's afraid in the middle of the night .

Allowing yourself the courage to let someone die when they are suffering.

Giving everything of yourself for someone despite the consequence.

vehemently stopping someone from commiting to the armed forces during a war.

Letting someone go to chase a dream
