What??? Sheesh -- I was a teenager a little over two years ago and I have never heard of any of this. I even called up a few of my friends and they've never heard of it either. Of course I know most of the "slang" terminology but "rainbow parties" and "sex bracelets"???

You have got to be kidding me! Where have all the children gone?

That's insane~

I am from Nova Scotia and they have banned them in most, if not all, schools here too. When they first came out, about two or three years ago here, I think, my daughter came home and told me right away. She explained to me what they were and what they meant. She is now 17 and has never wore them. She was grossed out by them and so was I. I remember her yelling at one of her girlfriends to take those gross things off. I am so very proud of her and the way she responded to the situation.

And THIS people is our best defense. We can ban bracelets, but just llike f-tabs and beer labels before them, something new WILL come out. There will always be some new fad that threatens the innocence of our children, and without a rapport, an open line of communication, with our children, we are opening the doors to these scary influences. Mandrake .. whatever you've done, you've done it right. That your daughter feels comfortable coming to you about this, talking openly and making her own wise choices regarding these bracelets says ALOT about how you have taught her over the years. At 14, or 15, I could have went to my mother, but never my father about such a personal "inside secret", so for her to be able to do that is AWESOME! Kudos to you.. we could all learn alot!

It's not just teenagers and 11 year old that know about this. My daughter was 8 when she came home and told me about them. I was shocked. This was coming from a bunch of 2nd graders. ( My daughter was held back a year.) THey weren't banned from her old school when they first came out. I took all jelly braclets that she has ever been given and threw them in the garbage. I have banned them from my house. But I did takl to my daughter about why I did this and she understood. I think that we all have to take that extra 5 minutes a day to talk to our kids about stuff like this as they get older. It's really scary to think that we are sending our kids to school to get an education and they are comming home to tell us this stuff.

Wow. Do I feel like a small town girl. I knew about the sex braclets, found out when I moved to Alberta, but the tabs off cans when I was younger were kissing tabs, as far as I knew. As for rainbow parties, havn't the foggiest. Thank god I have, ah crap, 3 months before my son starts school to learn all of this stuff. He might come from a one parents household, but he'll know respect, and games like this are not respect. I think I might be sick.

rainbow parties-a bunch of guys and girls get together for a party. the girls put different colors of lipstick on. The girls suck off as many guys as they can. leaving their lipstick behind with each guy. Thus by the time the party is over. The guys are left with a rainbow of colors on their penis's. disgusting but true. the girls get nothing from these parties except a reputation.

I can see why many schools have banned these bracelets. Any kid aged 12 or above pretty much knows what each color means. And if they tell you they don't and aren't looking at you in the face when they say it they are lying.

It sure wasnt anything like this when I was even 16***At 11 years of age it sure is scary the things that go on in SCHOOL's, OMG Very sick is all I can say, I sure wouldnt want to be a parent these days.I might comment more later, when I chill out.

and only the actually disturbed kids believe in them..

Sort of like rainbow parties.. urban myths.

My daughter said she heard about the bracelets about two years after her and her best friend started wearing them. She thought the whole thing rather stupid and never believed any of it.

I asked her about them and she said .. oh PULEAAAASEEE.. do you really think 12 year olds are giving each other oral sex over bracelets???? She's 16.. I don't know.. Either I am totally hoodwinked or we give kids not enough credit.

As for rainbow parties,, she laughed her ass off when I asked her about them, she said she read about them on the internet!!!!!

I Know that I am not a single parent or even a parent at all. But I have heard of all the things that have been discussed in this forum. My shipmates (I am in the Navy) and I have had discussions about this as well. I for one am appalled. I waited until I was 19 to lose my virginity. I think that I should have waited longer. There is no way that teenagers of the age we are speaking of should be engaging in sex. I feel that ,at that age, the majority, if not all, of the kids are not emotionally/mentally preparted to deal with Sex. Definetly the reprecussions of it. When I do Have children I am going to speak with them. I definetly would not want my son/daughter engaging in any form of sex until they are mature enough to handle the reprecussions of it. Now adays it is just too dangerous to behave like that. I don't care if they are children or not. Sex is not something that should be messed around with. Especially in the capacity in which we are talking about. We have pedophiles, diseases, and then there is always unwanted pregnancy. I for one think it is a gross and highly appalling thing. Thank you for your time.

The bracelet thing is old and becoming a thing of the past.. fortunately! Now it's more if someone is hot, ya do them in what ever way feels good.. If you really want to have a heart attack ask ur kids how many of their friends are having sex and how many are just giving bj's (They don't consider a bj sex..and think it's "safe" from disease..) My 13yo son comes home often and discusses how his classmates talk about things they do to each other.. Unfortunately the talk is no longer just talk as it was when I was a kid.... But then what do we expect when kids are sexualized on TV and in music.. They are a product of how we raise them..

Jenny, the flat half inch bracelets that breast cancer , aids, lance armstrong are not the ones I am talking about. They are the spagetti thin colored bracelets. They aren't wide enough to print anything on. They do not have knots in them either. They are one piece of rubberized plastic. And they are still in out schools. I am back in Ohio now and just had my nieces father take a black one off her. She is 13 and yes she knew what it meant. But still wanted to wear it. Her father hit the roof when he found out what it meant. This is not a urban myth. And still exists.

This is not a urban myth. And still exists

And it exists because overbearing alarmist adults decided that it exists.

Back in the 80's when i was a teenager.. we had sex too.. and we didn't need to break a bracelet to do it.

Seems to me that there are to many people getting a close up view of their own salad to just let kids be kids.

(and if you honestly think taking a bracelt away from a child is going to prevent them from having sex.. you need to seriously re-examine your own childhood)
