I was a bit shocked to hear this and it appeared to be racist. Can anyone shed light on this for me.
That sounds a lot like the teachings of Mormonism. Although, the Church of Latter Day Saints have done their best to try and revise their opinion on this given the complete lack of credible archaeological evidence to support this and the racism of it. That belief, and the belief that black people were cursed by god for not being good enough or something are one of the reasons that the LDS didn't count many minorities as members. Although, they've changed their mind on the truth of the supposedly infallible words of Joe Smith.

In fact... Just the other day I was walking down the street in my Los Angeles neighborhood and a group of youngsters was kind enough to ask me if I was from around 'here'... the question stumbled me briefly and I found myself giving out crisp 5 dollar bills along with several one liners that kept them laughing.
Now I'm no coward but I will say that at 43 a group of 18 to 23 year olds with tats and bulging clothing can be a bit intimidating. I won't say their race for it matters not but what does matter is that I'm still alive.
Let's not be totally ignorant about this... in sometimes and in some places tolerating racism is a way to live to fight it another day... | |

I look at him, looked at may pack and said "Yeah... I don't think so." He then says "What? Back home, wouldn't you say 'Hey ni**er, give me a smoke?" I replied "No, I'd say 'Hey man!'" He goes " Oh, no racism for you huh?" I said "No." He says "Respect!" I laughed and said "I hope one day!" He didn't get a smoke.
I will always speak out against racism... Well, unless I'm way outnumbered by violent racists, lol... Then I concur with Statueman. | |

Posted: 1/12/2008 4:11:52 PM | I've never understood racism. Maybe growing up in San Jose, where nearly every race lives - and all in harmony for the overwhelming majority of the time - has given me this innocence.
When I say innocence, you may think that's impossible, but I'll share my horror story about racism here:
When I was in sixth grade, I was accused of calling a black kid in class the obvious term that would get me an accusation worth mentioning. It turns out, I kid you not, that I literally had never heard the word before, and had muttered to myself that he should try to be less frustrated, and more happy like Tigger (I told you already, I kid you not), after he had just yelled at me for making little fuss over his ability to fold his eyelids back (which was apparently not something he appreciated).
I was so surprised when I found out what the word was that I thought it was a joke.
And that's the extent of my innocence on the matter. I've only ever used the word once, and it was in anger, unfortunately. But I immediately apologized and made up for it by remaining a loyal friend of the guy I said it to (which he reciprocated after he knew I was honest about it).
Maybe San Jose is a strange place. Maybe it's an unsung utopia. Maybe it's a powderkeg that's been dowsed with enough water that it just won't blow anymore.
All I do know is that I've never understood how people can be racist.
And no, I do not tolerate it at all.
