| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 3/18/2006 11:35:56 AM | Could someone please give me the Cliff's Notes version on the potential logistics for cross-border dating LOL.
I mean - I'm a Canuck. If I were to meet a great American guy and he was open to relocating to here, what would he (we) potentially have to go through to relocate? get a work Visa? - etc. Is it a very difficult process in which there's a good chance he wouldn't be able to move here to live? Does he have to be come a Canadian (dual) citizen? I learned a long time ago that LDR's don't work for me - but I sure have met some wonderful American guys but I've never considered pursuing it because I am not able/willing to relocate and I figured the odds of them being willing/able to do so would be equal - plus I figured it was quite the daunting and risky process for an American to move here and work. No?
Is it simpler if the Canadian gal and the American guy get married and he relocates to Canada here to obviously live with his wife?

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 3/18/2006 11:39:19 AM | I live in Massachusetts. I've chatted with and seen dozens of attractive Canadian women in here. If I thought I was ready to settle down with one, I'd suggest we live niether place, Mass od Canada. Move someplace warm like Florida or Arizona! | |

Sneaking into the U.S. is so incredibly easy, just disguise yourself as 135 pounds of heroin and the cops will escort you right to the dealers. We know it as our war on drugs.

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 3/19/2006 12:37:43 AM | | I agree Elizabeth - I moved from New Zealand to New York - it is all about risk and how willing you are to take a risk. Maybe it will work maybe not but man you can have the experience of a lifetime - good or bad! I would hate to think of what if's. Life is to be lived not wondered about. And I have the maxim no regrets. | |

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 3/19/2006 12:49:43 AM | | Sandy, I concur! I think that life is what you make it....to build up a bunch of 'what ifs' is just sad! And might I say; wow! And good for you for taking the chance........ | |

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 3/19/2006 1:08:13 AM | Thanks ! Loved every minute of it but i do understand that it is not for everyone. It is always about expectations and limitations. We often limit ourselves because of the unknown and yet it can be so much damn fun and we often expect too much.
But i have to say the ride was definitely worth it ! Hey I got to live in New York I met so many cool people that I would not have met. Maybe it is because New Zealanders live at the ass end of the earth and we all travel so it is not a big thing for us!

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 3/19/2006 8:36:23 AM | | I truly think it can be done. The catch is of course one of you has to be willing to give up their current life for it to work. I would hope, should you ask that of someone, you would have the strength of character to do everything to make sure it works. It's quite alot to ask of someone, to show how grateful you are for someone taking such a chance on you should be way up on your priorities list. | |

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 3/19/2006 8:45:41 AM | I have a friend who married an AMerican woman. It took 2 years for her to be able to work in Canada and another 6 months after that before she was eligible for MSP. The legal costs were around $5000.00 It isn't as easy as one would think...so prepare for some hard work and a lot of red tape. | |

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 3/19/2006 9:12:36 AM | | I am omly 30 miles from the Alberta/Sasketchewan border. Dating someone close to that area would be okay. As for longterm, someone would have to move out of their country. I would want to be very sure of the situation before I moved to be with anyone, anywhere. The idea of moving to Canada wouldn't be any scarier than moving across the U.S. | |

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 3/19/2006 9:15:53 AM | ...if you want it bad enough you can succeed with success...all depends on the situation. Risks are there to be taken..be man or woman enough to see them from start to finish...I dont see why this wouldnt work. | |

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 3/19/2006 12:07:30 PM | | I cannot see why the couple cannot live 6 months in Canada and 6 months in the US. That way Immigration is happy and when it gets bloody cold up here enjoy the warmer climate of the south....Works for me. | |
