| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 1/6/2006 8:53:37 PM | Of course it could work. I don't personally believe in long distance relationships, but for the right people it might succeed.
Don't count on me moving down there...for about another three years. On the other hand, if Harper gets elected....

but to be honest, i'd never permanently move out of Canada.
did the LDR thing for a while with a girl in Boise...never again. too much distance, too much time apart...
then again...Redhotmamma IS one heck of a redhead...

**Blushes**
Ummm anyway...lol For moi... there would have to be much more than the physical obviously...I think if you look to future goals and all the everyday things that come up, if you can see this person in your future.. and know that you don't want to live without them... then that is a pretty good argument for going for it...

A LDR just requires more.
If the two people involved are patient and prepared to work towards being together, why should they not have as much chance of success as any other couple?
They will have already developed their communication with, shown their trust in, and commitment to, each other...
That's a good part of the battle right there.

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 1/9/2006 3:22:54 PM | | i am dating someone from buffalo now, I am only 3o minutes away on a good day with no delays at the bridge. Its hard because of our work schedules we only get to see each other on weekends...so we make the best of it for now. Sometimes it gets lonely but I tell you theres nothing like seeing each other after a few days away. Its all good. | |

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 1/9/2006 4:13:24 PM | Absolutely!! I've chatted with some really sweet men from the States at length, but both have to be ready to work at it, and unfortunately they weren't as serious as it takes to be in a long term relationship, never mind a long distance one. A friend of mine just married a man from Arizona last summer, and they are now living in Montreal in her condo. He gave up a ranch, family and business to be with her in Canada. So I think the right combo of partners, patience and major trust would be paramount to succeed in an LDR. I would try again, personally.

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 1/9/2006 5:07:46 PM | Seems to work out ok for some people I know. One rabid Canadian lefty I know married a guy she met at Arizona State while on a student visa now lives on the east coast. An older gentleman I know married a lady from Virginia. It has worked out very nicely. He is not a resident, but Canadian Citizens can spend up to 6 months in the US so long as they are not employed (owning a business is ok, he's semi-retired). US citizens can spend the same amount of time in Canada. So they spend the winter in Virginia and the summer in Canada. There's no place more beautiful than the north shore of Georgian Bay or Superior at high summer, when the days are 18 hours long and a perfect 22C. Don't want to be there in February, eh? She can't get out of US taxes, but by spending a month in Europe or elsewhere he avoids the necessity of filing income tax in Canada, since he's not a resident there either. They *are* looking for a more permanent solution, since becoming a US resident would cost him 1/4 to 1/3 his retirement in US taxes, but... so far they seem quite happy.
Personally I would prefer to avoid the USA since it's one of the few countries where residents have to file income tax even if they live elsewhere. Apart from distance, ##$%#$% irritating tax and immigration laws seem to be the biggest barrier. A buddy of mine married a foreigner, and they spent the first 18 months of their marriage apart as all the paperwork went through. Now a girl from Belize, or Grand Cayman..... WOW. No photo required. ;)

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 1/10/2006 6:02:06 PM | They can only work if there trust!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I had no luck so i would not advise trying unless you are 100 percent sure you know the other person is not out for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ men and women included not pointing the finger at a certain sex..
If you find out he or she has lied dont forgive run as fast as you can because I forgave and forgot and it turned out really bad..
So thats it honesty trrust and dedication and you have got it made so go for it....

Do you love the Bush-leaguers and neo-Nazis who are running this country?
Keat, do you really believe this? Come now.. the U.S. is a great country. I don't think there is ever a leader everyone will agree with. But it doesnt mean your country is run by Neo-Nazis.
