| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 1/13/2006 10:10:01 PM | LOL freddie...
Let me stress something.. the whole thing is about whether someone should limit themselves because of distance.. From any location to any location.. If you are willing to take a chance... You never know what miracles might happen...

Do it no matter the distance but do it cautiously. You know you might just end up in love or at least with a good friend.
Yes they work as a matter of fact my Dad just married a US citizen a few years ago. It's like any relationship there are always risks involved.
They have a home in Ontario and a place in Florida.
Works for them. | |

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 1/14/2006 9:24:06 PM | Hmmmmmmmmm, I would think it would work depending on the two people involved, their current financial status and willingness to give and take.
I prefer to stay in the states, although I often joked about moving to Canada if Bush were re elected....he was and I didn't.
We'll see how things go in 2008.....THEN I might actively pursue a Canuck.
For now, I just bought a house...have a great job, 100% of my benefits are paid for by my employer and am looking forward to lazy summer days in my new house and backyard pool!
I never had Timmy's coffee, but we have a great place in town that makes KILLER coffees....
If a guy wanted to relocate to the US to marry me, he'd be covered my my insurance and we could get Cafe Baristas anyday.
My friend married a guy from England. He had no problem working here and going to school here. He now has dual citizenship.
I see no reason it couldn't work out.

You seem jaded more than anything! Not that anyone asked, lol, but it's just my two cents. E.

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 1/14/2006 10:39:50 PM | I am just old and experienced
And no, I am not saying that young people have no sense....
Young people can afford to take risks and make mistakes....a few years is nothing when you are in your 20s, but it is a hell of a chunk of the rest of your life when you are 50

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 1/15/2006 12:10:16 AM | Are we talking specifically about cross border relationships (Canadian/U.S.) or long distance?? most of the posts seem to focus on the distance.....for me personally, I only live about 35 mintues from the Detroit/Windsor border, so dating someone from Windsor wouldn't be a big deal... eh? | |
|
| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 1/15/2006 2:44:35 PM | | Fox... at 50.. I pray I am still taking risks and making mistakes and learning from them...I can't "not" afford to keep on keeping on. otherwise... I might as well be dead.... | |
|
| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 1/15/2006 2:53:59 PM | According to men
For a woman 50 IS dead
Just out of interest, I started a post asking about people dating mainlanders...oddly, most of them think even that is too much work. Maybe our views are warped by being trapped on the Rock?

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 1/15/2006 3:21:11 PM | Ok, I will put my two cents worth, and dont forget its two cents canadian so considerably worth less...
Can / US Relations. Well, it all depends first of all how old the people are, if they have kids and what kind of work they do. The kids thing is the big one. If I fell in love with an american woman, seeing how I have little kids and even though I can't stand their mother, I would never ever take them away from her and nor should she want to take them away from me. Just as you shouldnt want to take your kids away from the other parent. The type of work you do. If you have basically just regular type of employment you can't go work in the states unless there is a big demand for that type of work, also, if you are self employed then you can go work in US on same day visa. Your age, if you are too old...... well... that means something else on its own but more possible if you dont have to work.... OK that last thing didnt make much sence but im tired..lol...

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 1/15/2006 6:26:33 PM | Hey! Are you talking about me? I'm fifty years of age and last spring a Canadian lady send me an email through POF. Ever since my life gained in quality, I've traveled to Canada and we spent some weeks together. And fantastic weeks it were! I don't know if this kind of relation would work for everybody, but it does to us. Oh, by the way, I live in Holland, Europe. A bit more distance than you might have thought in the first place. Don't bother about age or distance boys and girls, true love will make it all less important. And although we can't be together at the moment, we do have a very good contact, several times each day.
I love her, she loves me. We help each other just by communication. Age has made us both very determined in what we want.
Good luck to all of you! Tom

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 1/21/2006 10:15:57 AM | Wondering does anyone really check the actual mileage between Canadian cities and their city in USA, hmmm. Most dating sites have a unscientific distance approach. I live in Victoria BC, and unlike some posts their illusion that Canada is cold, who the hell owns Alaska, not us! People often when they use the term Canada, their only knowledge of Canada is what Toronto, Montreal get real. There is only 1 province in Canada that has on their license plates, Beautiful British Columbia and if you know anything about the pacific Northwest from Northern California, thru Idaho, Oregon and BC its gorgeous all the way up, sometimes snow, little rain but we're always left out it seems.
Back to the distance factor. Maybe sometime look at the actual physical distance between certain parts. From West Coast Victoria to East Coast Newfie country is like 3000 miles on the flip side Port Angeles USA (just 17 miles across the ocean from Victoria) to Florida is around 3000 miles. A lot of dating sites will say someone living in Victoria is 11000 miles from Florida - get real! But any distance is a huge factor and I don't want to leave my city for another, even America all she is beautiful in all her grand states.
My 2 cents worth. Like many said maturity and being willing to negotiate is a biggie, just depends on a lot of things, are the children grown up, can they really give up what they've worked so hard to achieve.

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 1/21/2006 8:08:18 PM | I think when you find someone... who's mere existence makes you happier, when you feel like being a better person with them... When your heart knows that it is home... there is no distance...
As for the children.. let me say this... the children will be happy if the mother is happy...and if mamma ain't happy well God Save your souls...
I don't believe it will work for all.. but for a precious few... they may just find the love of a lifetime...

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 1/21/2006 10:17:00 PM | My favorite Canadian said it best when I brought this subject up...."We live on the same piece of dirt, why can't it work". Gotta love him huh! :)
I absolutely agree with you red....great posts and points! ;) ' E.

How many men can be like you???! Dedication and devotion is extremely rare amongst the men as statistically proven. If I were to find a man as such, he would be loved by me to death!!!

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 2/19/2006 9:34:02 PM | I was in one for 8 months.Due to life circumstances it didnt work out.We are still close friends though and keep in touch on an almost daily basis.I believe if both parties are willing to do whatever it takes,it can work.As I said awhile ago in this thread I wouldnt date someone casually from another country. It can be much more difficult than a regular long distance relationship. If you see the person as having long term potential and one of you is in a position to rellocate(this is key)eventually,I believe it can and will work.:)Good luck to all of you in this type of a relationship:) | |

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 2/19/2006 9:37:36 PM | Don't date outside your country unless you intend to get married.
Lawyers lovingly will hug and squeeze you to death.
Many countries are banned or red-flagged such as Thailand, Uganda and Albania, the legal costs prohibitive, the procedures and wait half a decade.

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 3/18/2006 10:13:14 AM | | I just spent 3 years with a canadian guy. He lived here for the first 2 1/2 years and things were great. He moved to Toronto and we only lasted 6 months after that. It was devastating to me, but the distance was too much. Maybe if we'd been so wealthy that we could afford weekly airline tickets, we would be together today. There is nothing wrong with dating a canadian as long as one of you is willing to relocate. | |

| Canadian / American relationships.. can it work??? Posted: 3/18/2006 10:32:49 AM | Just Google for the First Special Service Force (FSSF) , popularly known as the " Devil's Brigade" , from WW2.
If you want to know where units like the Seals and Delta Force can trace their routes back to, one of those influences is there.
Americans and Canadians were brought together, trained together, and developed some brand new tactics in warfare. The qualities both nations brought to the mix made both stronger.
These men, without any real military background, and coming from a democracy ( with all the limitations that can mean in warfare) were sent against some of the most elite German units in action. Those units were composed of men with centuries of military experience in their families, and were run with an iron hand.
The Devil's Brigade terrorized them, and consistently won in every battle they fought.
I think that's the proof we all need as to how well Canadians and Americans can work together.
What we need is the " First Special Forces of Love. "
