I think when people see what is life people gets sad and gets depressed and then they want to comit suicide.

To be clever bring you to want to die. But then you have to get use to life and to survive.

Reality is cruel.

Most of the silly people is the people who is 100% happy.

Clever....well, He brought The world a New sound and Style of Music that we had never heard before. Some would say " The Begining of Grundge Rock ". But the whole North West Wahington State brought us Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, Alice In Chains....etc..etc..

and Nirvana was a part of The ride. He does have a certain tone to his voice that is unmistakable unique.

All good things come from the heart and I feel he was deep into depresion long before he decided to eat the business end of a Shot Gun.
I feel the same drugs that massaged his "creative self" also gave him the courage to pull the trigger and end the pain.

Clever...I say no.

Another troubled soul seeking approval..I say yes.

Absolutely not! I like Kurt Cobain, don't get me wrong, but he was a total waste. Had everything, should have made some sort of attempt to get his crap together...

Exactly toonsmith... People who have never dealt with that type of illness or have never been around someone with that type of illness don't get just what it can do to a person. I have a brother with similar problems and it's like walking on a tightrope around him most of the time. I don't know how his wife does it, but she's stuck it out for a very long time.

Your brother is very lucky to have someone supporting and loving to him. Not many of us have that in this world.

Kurt had....Courtney Love?

I just don't know. (Shrugs)

Sometimes there's nothing anyone can do--no matter who they are. If someone is using drugs and is already depressed, sometimes it just takes over and they lose all hope~ Which is obviously why it happens, even to people who seem to have everything going for them.

I think I read a book about this subject years ago--artists, and their tortured souls, and it detailed just how many famous artists/musicians have taken their own lives. It seems to almost go hand-in-hand with being "artistic".... Hmmmm..

Kurt Kobain was a true Artist.
He never tried to be something He was not..He never tried to sell You on his Art.
He was himself,What You saw was what You got,and that is what made Him so great.

there is a connection between the "artistic temperment" and Insanity...

i read it in a book...and it makes sense to me...i really enjoyed Cobains lyrics, they were odd, but made sense at the same time..but, i can see that there was some insanity going on inside of him. suicide is an insane proposition for one to make...and there is a topic on artists on these forums about artist and how strange we are...

and i think that you have to be a little crazy to dream the kinds of things that artists dream up...you have to be crazy to say "...What if..." out loud

and what's the saying? "he/she is a mad genius!"

so, i think that cobain was clever yes, but what makes us think he was clever? is it that he was actually clever? or is it that we recognize the insanity in his work and are drawn to it because we are a little insane as well? do we recognize our own crazyness in his words?

hmmmmmmm

I know this is an unpopular view but... I'm sorry the seattle scene sucked and music in general is better off without Kurt... his music was terrible and so many others have done it better.

I think, and know, that all "artists" are tempermental, tortured many times, sociopathic, you name it, and that's sometimes what makes them what they are. It's been going on forever and ever.

And I agree, Kurt was who he was, and never "dressed to impress".... He never allowed himself to become an "assembly line" person. If you know what I mean....

I wish he hadn't done what he did, but the rest of the world goes on, yet we still listen to their music ((some of us, at least)), and can remember by doing so~~~

You if anyone should or could respect some of what He did...being an Artist Yourself,
Nirvana,Pearl Jam,..and a few other bands changed the face of music for a generation to come,,,I would like You to tell Me how it is better off with out them..please back this up?????????????.........the charts say differently.

Kurt Kobain.....was a nobody that made it out of no where,
this crap I hear on the radio now ...papper cut out bands, make Me sick it all sounds the same,
Real Artists put no effort into their Art...they live it,walk it and breath it.

Kurt will live in infamy...with the Greats....whiles others dry out and blow away in the wind..

We could sure use Kurt right about now. Music sucks today.

(How's that for a sweeping generalization?)

Poor Kurt! he tried to set standards that no one could ever really live up to. music is supposed to be fun, and his approach to the industry although ambitious and somewhat idealistic was just way too serious! That being said, i still love Nirvana and it is too bad that we will never hear any new songs again! Plus I would rather Dave grohl went back to playing drums fulltime. Was Kurt clever, sure, but maybe alil too clever for his own good. I would probably kill myself if i woke up and foundmyself married to courtney love too!

I'll just make one more comment.. He did a few "fun" songs; Been a Son, Lithium, and Smells like Teen Spirit, just to name a few... Maybe the songs come across to everyone differently. He's always made me think, let's put it that way~~~ And Lithium is one of my favorites of all~~~

Wrong answer !!! The drugs cause depression .It's a vicious cycle. I used to suffer from depression ,then I quit drugs ,now I'm fine. Most recovering addicts will agree.

Drugs do cause problems.... but there are chemical imbalances of the brain such as Bipolar, Borderline and many others. Kurt also had stomach problems and ulcers to deal with as well. The guy was in a lot of pain.

He had these problems long before the drugs and no doubt, used drugs to counter his symptoms...unfortunately, the drugs had the reverse effect.

Elvis certainly exhibited mood swings and symptoms of the bipolar disorder and he fell into the trap of prescription drugs. Both Kurt and Elvis had something in common. They both got tired of life and the pain and let themselves go.....and at such a young age.

One can only hope that future generations of talented individuals on the scale of Kurt, can learn and recogize and not take the same deadly path.

TheGlimmerMan, Kurt never sang a coherant lyric. He was merely a junkie who couldnt play guitar (fact) and who happened to be signed at the time when music was stale and needed something new... it only lasted 2 years - The entire Seattle sound - What does that tell you? You say the charts tell a different story? Well, The pussycat Dolls and Brittany Spears killed the charts too, are they talented?

Pearl Jam? Oh my God!! Eddy is known for being a joke!!! Everyone knows he couldnt sing, including himself!

I agree todays bands suck but it's getting better... you just need to find it.
