What makes you respond to an email?
Posted: 9/6/2007 5:51:12 PM
If the sender left off with a question I definately reply. And others that are wanting to E-mail back and forth I reply quick enough.
Some E-mails I get are replies to E-mails I've sent that say thanx or have a good day
I don't respond to because I ,think, I'm supposed to get the hint that she isn't all that impressed.

This is an old soapbox issue of mine. I think too many people send bad emails that have no chance of being answered. From the looks of it, most of our current fishies have the general idea, but for anyone that missed it:

1. Read their profile. TWICE.
2. Be sure that you fit the picture of what that person is looking for.
3. Write a brief (kewl) email referencing at least one of the things they mentioned in their profile.
3a. Take your cue from the profile you are responding to. If they are funny or irreverant, then please be a little crazy. First contact is not the time to be Earnest. But if their profile is quiet and sincere, you should respond in kind. And there are so many variables in between. Take your cue from the person you are contacting. Hopefully, you won't be contacting someone that is extremely different from yourself, so it should be easy- just be yourself.
4. NEVER rephrase your own profile in your email. If they're interested, they'll read it firsthand and be bored to tears with you restating it in the message.
5. ASK A QUESTION!!! This is by far the MOST important part. A person could hear from the most attractive fish in the pond, but with only "Ur hot" as a straightline, wtf are they going to reply? You've got to invite communication.
6. Good luck!

What I never did understand is that emails I send out to women on various online dating sites fit within the bounds that everyone has stated here, yet I would say about 98% of them still go into that black hole known as the ether. Although they may actually view my profile. Perhaps they don't like my humor, or get the wrong idea about me or something. I sure as hell don't know.

Different things make me respond - but it has to have some personality!

And please - give a girl a chance to respond. A guy sent me an email on a Thursday night at 11:30 - and then sent me an extremely rude email the next day at 1:30, calling me rude and stuckup (among other things) because I hadn't responded yet. Some people don't check every day!

I usually respond even if it's just a thank you for the email with no questions, or anything that would encourage further emails if I am not interested. What I am having a problem with is why do people you've never even heard from or gotten to know via the forums add you as a favorite? I find that a bit presumptuous so I keep deleting them.

Guys, I am not a native speaker, I make mistakes too, but can't stand bad grammar or spelling. For example, definitely is a correct word. I don't respond if a person can't write correctly. It's not a turn off. It's a turn out.

What should I write to a man who starts his letter with "Hey, babe, you are hottie". Am I a baby to him? No yet, sorry, to the trash can. I usually check profile of everyone who writes me and if I don't find them interesting I don't answer. It's a hint, they will understand if they are smart enough. If they are not, why would I bother to even think about them?

There's a difference between perfectionism and literacy. But... whatever... ;)

Hi there!
Posted: 11/22/2007 2:04:00 PM
I have just moved to Bay Area. I am European, I mean I really am. I am not just a hair of someone who moved to US 100 years ago. I have been in US for 3 years, and I was born and raised in Moscow, Russia.

Does that sound familiar to you frisko with a 'k'?
Don't be a hipocrit.

Don't be a hipocrit.

I understand your attempt to defend yourself having found my mistakes... I have said, I am not a native speaker, as well as that I do make mistakes. But I have known in the 4th grade that how to write definitely. I have been in this country for only 3 years and I spell better than you. You may laugh as much as you want, but you are not good with your own language. Don't deny, just say so. By the way, in Russia I was a journalist and a chief editor of a magazine, so, trust me, I am _good_ in Russian. I am not saying that you are a bad person, but you are just illiterate. It's not a big deal. May be your family didn't have enough money for a middle school, and you had to work, or you were a bad student. It's ok, really.

First off: to Scotter and Frisko; you two kids behave or I will turn this car around right now!

Two: What Barbe said. I've gotten e-mail from certain people that liked what I said in forum and added me to their friends list. That's cool. And they had the ability to hit a button and let me know that. Again, appreciated. But blindly adding someone with no e-mail whatsoever is kind of a yellow flag. It may be their way of initiating contact. Kind of like sending a smile. But an e-mail saying so would be better.

Three: Try and get the spelling somewhat correct. I may not be the best typer/typist/speller/underwater basket weaver in the world, but I try.

Four: I get e-mail? Guys don't get e-mail on here. Ever.

Um you are so full of crap your eyes are brown!

Or how bout this one... Liar liar pants on fire!

I emailed you just yesterday about sharing your 30 million with me... alright it was all about the money but you can't say you don't get emails from women, because the last time I checked I was a woman... oh wait a minute I did say I wanted a boob job... maybe I'm secretly... uh nevermind, I'll get back to you...

I'm on fire? That explains why people are trying to hit me with a fire extinguisher.

So, no boob job, dinner at Sizzler, or complamentary Fruit Basket for you! Thanks for playing. You don't even get a lowsy copy of our home game!

Can I have friskogirl as a consolation prize though!

Shouldn't we ask her first? It'd be nice to give her a little bit of warning.

::coughs::

Игнорируйте идиотов, они объявляют вещи как этот только, чтобы вызвать проблему. Жалоба на проверку правописания имени означала бы, что большинство пользователей здесь - пользователи бедной проверки правописания.

Now where was I?

Oh yes, Ok, complaining about a users name having poor spelling is rather pointless, due to the large number of "taken" names here, that is the mental equivalent of pitching boogers at someone, if you are going to troll, at least try and be original.

I am fairly good at responding to all emails, not always in a timely fashion, and I have a pair of them in my in-box that I am just not sure how to... politically respond to, but I will at some point.

I think responding to email is just being polite.

First of all you can mind your own business. Also, if you are going stick your brown nose where it don't belong then speak english. Finally, with regards to booger flicking, little miss editor needs to leave her job at work and not make spiteful, needless, petty comments about someone who has never even addressed her. She is an instigator and you love that kind of thing serenity.

As for frisky:
I know Russians are typicaly rude and poor people but I am not and I resent you for bringing it out of me.

Oh you are just so cute!

Do you sing the troll song too?

if we spin you around does your hair look funny?

Brother, your post is in a public forum, so if it bothers you that other people responded then you need to take it to email, not to mention that it is site policy.

As for you ad-hominem attacks on myself, feel free, worse has been said, worse is probably true, and unfortunately for you, it would take a greater man than the one pitching the hissy cow to really have an impact on this particular lad.

Obviously what causes scatterpop to respond to an email is the opportunity to get into a screaming contest, my entire segment that was not in english was a recomendation that the new fish ignores the trolls in the pond. Like scum they are everywhere.
