I didn't bring a charger because you're required to forget ONE important thing on a big trip.

And Angyson, how am I "knocking" Vancouver? I think I made it clear I enjoyed my trip despite the turn of events.

I could say that I was turned off by the woman in the cell phone store who refused to let me pay to have my phone charged because she wanted me to BUY the charger... or the girl at the crepe restaurant who insisted they could not put egg, cheese and sausage in a crepe, or the fact that I was asked for money every 30 seconds by homeless people... but I won't say any of those things.

Instead, I'll just say I loved the energy of the city and it reminded me very much of being home in NY... the food was great... I met some cool people dancing at the Tokyo Lounge Saturday night... was thrilled that the city was alive past 10pm... and found some great record stores.

Mojo, While I am sorry to hear things didn't go as you would have liked....I also have to say that maybe you expected too much possibly. Granted she didn't contact you at times, But you kind of should have gone in with that possibility in mind. Some people don't handle things the same as you would, or even think in the same manner as you. Had that been kept in mind from the begining, you would not have been disapointed when when it occurred.
A lot of peope don't consider the fact that we all don't think the same. I have been to a LOT of countries all of my life, and know just how very different each and every person and culture are. So If I were to go to another country again, for the reason of meeting a person, I would set myself to the mindset that this is only a personal adventure, and anything else is a plus. Please, if you do so again, keep that in mind....and no matter what, you will enjoy yourself anyway.

I love playing hostess and tour guild for people. I've heard some really bad stories, but I've met people more than 50 miles away before with no problem, but I'm very upbeat and I love to have fun and can doing just about anything.

I had a girl I met on the internet come visit me twice from NH during the winter months, she loves horses and so she would come down and I'd take her to the beach.. and on a few trailrides.. she loved it and it was fun for me too. I met a guy a while back from AL and I'm from FL... I was doing some work and was kinda close to where he lived so we agreed to MEET for breakfast.. well.. our breakfast lasted about 3 hours!! We camped and visited each other after that quite a few times and to this day consider ourselves good friends. I think the internet is a great place to meet new friends and also if you can find the right ones, it will give you places to travel that without them you would never get to see.

I guess I've just been very lucky. OH.. and I'm for USA and not Canada but no matter.. I would never treat someone like that or abandon them.

Dude no wonder things didn't go the way you wanted them to!! Not trying to be insulting there, you seem like a nice enough fellow, but it seems you expect too much, and always want things to go your way. Maybe your blaming more on the girl who stood you up than she really deserves! At least be honest. I mean you can't blame the cell phone thing on her because YOUR the one who forgot to bring a charger cord with you, nor is it the cell phone stores fault for not letting you use one to charge your phone as they probably have policies against it and better things to do with their time! GOD! It's only 30 some dollars CANADIAN for a new cord. You shouldn't travel if you are so broke!

GOD! egg, cheese and sausage in a crepe!? NO WONDER!!!

well since she volunteered to be your host so she should have been.
Must have been a misunderstanding somewhere.

But she knew you were there for your work, and it sounds like she just didn't look as good as you thought and that was one of the first things she was looking for when she met you. And it sounds as if her life was a little hellish, she's dragging a baby around and who knows what else she has going on in her life, she may not have had the comfortable lifestyle that you know so you may not understand and she may not have wanted to tell you.

Or maybe, she was just acting like a man, and she just wasn't into you!

There is only one flaw to your story Mojo_LA...there is no such thing as an expensive cab ride in Vancouver. Airport to downtown is $35CDN. LA is a hell of a lot worse....so there is a lot of embellishment going on in your story.

A few things to note:

1) This women is a mother with kids...they come first as a priority...sorry to be a hit on your ego. As a parent, things do come up.,..kids get sick...sitters fall through, etc...sh*t happens.

2) Vancouver is a small place with a fairly good transit system...you sound like you wanted to be served hand and foot, carted around like a king for 4 days just because you took a 2 hour flight from LA to Vancouver....come-on now...she may have flirted and welcomed your advances, but your the fool here thinking you could get the undivided attention of a single mother for 4 days......ummmm.....a little self centered are we not?

3) Have you never travelled out of LA on your own or do you need mommy to hold your hand everywhere you go. Okay...you come up here for 4 days...do some things on your own...go visit some film industry contacts....rent a car at $40/day....but don't whine please....its sicking to listen to your crap.

What really happened?

You met...she wasn't interested in you and abandoned you...was that fair...hell no!
However...omg...if anyone here...goes to visit someone in another city and leaves themselves totally dependant on the person he/she is meeting they are the biggest fool and only set themselves up to the biggest loosers I am really sorry about your experience Mojo...but although her behavior was aweful, you only have yourself to blame for letting your ego expose yourself be so dependant.

Please.....do your homework. Be prepared for things not to go well....keep a lifeboat ready and cut your losses when things go from bad to worse.

Just my two cents,

Yes, I am incredibly self-centered. You're right. I was insane to think she would actually live up to her promise and at least be a friend. What a fool I was!

And although I didn't bat an eyelash at her needing time with her family and was quite happy to give her whatever space she needed, I *was* secretly wanting her to drop everything and cater to me and only me!!

More importantly, although I have stated several times that after she split I managed quite well on my own, you and ONLY you have seen what really happened - I sat on the sidewalk like a frightened puppy, crying for my mother and begging strangers to bring me salvation.

Bandito, your powers of perception amaze me. Obviously you don't even need to read all the posts to see the real truth. You see right through me and my whiny lies.

Hold me.

My story is one of naivety and believing everything you read on the net is true.

Well last year and this was when I was chatting to someone on another dating site she proceeded to say that she was interested in me and started offering a holiday (all expensses paid trip for 2 months for me and my gran in Queensland around 2000 kilometres from me.

Along the way my naivity also was lowered when she claimed she was a teacher and well respected teacher who won many awards and well also that she was in hospital in regards to her appnendix. Okay so I checked Google and found no name of her as a teacher and I also rang up the education department and they said no person by that name is registered as a teacher- well I thought that possibly as a graduate she hasn't been registered yet. Anyway then according to all hospitals in Adelaide she wasn't registered as a patient.

Well she said constantly "trust me I am a teacher" of course you would trust them. She actually forced me to get my car licence in order to share the driving in Queensland.

Then the messages became more lewd and well she started talking about sex and what she would like to do with me. Then suddenly, I asked for her number and she said she cannot give it out because her dad uses it as a business the home and mobile number- by then alarm bells should have been ringing in my head and they didn't.

Well since my gran has a Cerebral Anerysm she can't fly but catch the train. Anyway we caught the train from Adelaide to Brisbane and well she never turned up at Brisbane Roma Street station and well then I messaged her on the dating site and she said well you got what you deserved because you wanted to use me all along.

Actually, it continued on that I would be legally in trouble and the claim from my ex that one of her friends(note this bit especially) knew the person who did it and got $10,000 compensation by a guy on Disability Support Pension who she claimed raped her when he didn't but the judge believed the female.

Luckily for us my mum was still living in Brisbane. So we stayed there for 10 days and came home again.

So then my ex said she knew more about this incident but she wasn't allowed to say anything. As it turned out a whole 5 months would pass until it was revealed my ex's friend did this so I could sever and break contact with my ex and never be friends with her.

This continued because this friend of hers cousin tried to trick me to actually meeting up and she never turned up in our city at the time and said "sucked in its Annika again you fool always falling for it".

Another completely different incident occured whereby one girl with a child and another one with a child, the first one organsed me to date the second girl and well it was a blind date but I didn't go because I didn't have her phone number nor did I know more about her. So, this happened that a woman scorn would give it back to me and when the first girl organised me to come over for a BBQ and Dinner well the second woman got a hold of her user name and password and tricked me twice in giving out the wrong address.

Well I reported the first scammer, then the second scammer got reported as well and the one above did as well and they haven't come back since on the dating site I was on all I can say is guys here is a warning about some things and this might be or might not be appopriate and some general rules to follow:

1. After a while (say around 7 to 10 days) ask for a phone number as well as mobile number- if they don't give it out to you then you know its a little suss.

2. In Australia voting is compulsory for over 18 year old's don't know about elsewhere- check Electoral Rolls, telephone books to find out if the person actually exists.

3. If the male or female is using excuses in not meeting earlier than what you would like (say around 12 to 13 days after inital contact) then you have a problem.

4. If you feel the messages are very suspicious and sound too true then it probably is.

5. If you need to do what I did was actually to check some background checks there is a actually A$49 private detective background check available over the internet and if you need more information ask your friends to check what she says and if it is convincing for them if it isn't then don't contact that person again.

I know I was naive the third time and I learned so that is why I am much more weary than I ever was.

It takes two to tango but it takes one of them to scam to loose that confidence in the word it takes two to tango.

I was asked for money every 30 seconds by homeless people

Yea, 'cuz there certainly aren't any homeless people in the state of California.

was thrilled that the city was alive past 10pm

WOW! Imagine that... with over 2 and 1/2 million people we manage to stay alive past 10 p.m. and impress an American from Cali!!! Break out the champagne.

Dave, YOU saw all those red flags with the "teacher" yet you tried to go to her anyway? YOU did the research.. knew she was fake but you still went, that makes absolutely NO sense at all. You knew better, why do the research on these people and then not listen to what you find out that you went looking for??? That is not called naive Dave... sorry...

Dave,

I got through the first part of your post about the teacher, then the rest of it was the biggest convoluted mess I've ever tried to read. Well, STARTED to try to read. OMG, it gave me a headache...

"this friend of her's cousin tried to trick me to meeting up", blah, blah

"I reported the first scammer, then the second scammer got reported as well"

Who did you "report" them to? Do you just go around looking for scammers?? Hey, wait a minute, I think I'm onto something......

Maybe you got an idea from the person (I don't know who it was in that mess of a story) who got $10,000 for some phony thing.

No, naive you are not.

My heart goes out to everyone here, even you Mojo, that has been fooled, scammed and humiliated by people that we take into our hearts and trust.

I have been severely scammed. I am not going to humiliate myself here by telling the story.

However, the point that I learned and now accept that it was my fault for being so naive, and perhaps so self absorbed, that I should have believed all that I was being told without getting the right questions answered first before embarking on a long journey.

If you only chatted on-line, do you plan a visit longer than 2 days....NO...things just might not work out.

If you only chatted on-line, do you bring other family member with you...Hello NO! how is that helping anyone

If you only chatted on-line, should you be able to call the person 24x7. at home and work...Hell Yes! Its a total red flag if you can't

Do you travel to visit a on-line love if there are red flags? Hell No! clear up the red flag issues first.

We all get scammed because we let ourselves br scammed...truth hurts!

Well it was on another internet dating site that you can report these scams.

Yes, I have learned quite a lot since those incidents and the only way I found out about the $10,000 was after I got scammed and not before.

I wonder if things would be different if you were both in an unfamiliar environment. Next time, I say meet in the middle. Even if you aren't romantically interested in the other person, hey, they are all you've got. In the very least, it would be a good story.
