Don't travel so far to meet a girl next time. And if you do, make your OWN travel arrangements. Book your own flight, get your own hotel reservations. Rent a car. Do it yourself. That way, if you are unhappy in the situation, you can change plans and do something else.

I have read a couple stories of guys going to a girls town , and vice versa and being left high and dry. Why the hell woundnt you meet in a neutral city, That way you kill two birds with one stone, Get a weekend away, No disturbances and if it doesnt work out, you get to check out a town,,IE fly to montreal for the weekend and meet there, It neutral turf..No one has an advantage, and you get to know each other undisturbed,,Also either can bugger off in a second if he or she is a freak...

Dont get..Invite someone to you town, if they are a freak, dump them at the hotel and pray they arent psychos as they know where you live now

Ah, yes, this thread sure has managed to take on a life of it's own.

Every time I think it has gotten buried and managed to finally go away, I get an email saying "I read about your story, you poor thing..." and I know it's back at the top of the list again.

The interesting thing is this story has made it's way into the "real world"; if you do a google search for "plenty of fish" this thread comes up as the second or third hit.

Why, I have no idea, but I've gotten messages from people who weren't even on this site who did a search and the first thing they see is this thread!

Of course, the fact that this happened almost 2 years ago doesn't stop anyone from chiming in with great advice as if it happened yesterday. My favorite response is still "see? never travel more than 20 minutes for a date!" as if my story is justification for being afraid to venture outside your comfort zone.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained, and I sure have gained a lot over the years.

As I've said maybe 100 times before in this thread, if I had the choice to repeat these events all over again or avoid them, I'd do it again. Why? Because I had an adventure! There was drama, suspense, wild plot twists and unexpected surprises. I met some cool people, had fun in a new city and bought some great records.

I also went home with a crazy story to tell, and had the guts to share it here. As a result, I've gotten email from all kinds of wonderful people, and even met a few of them because of it.

So yeah - sit back, stare at the screen from your old and busted chair, let out a chuckle and keep telling yourself that i'm the loser...

Unbelievable. I don't mean her. I mean you. Could you WHINE any louder ??? LOL. Seriously. I enjoyed reading your post and found it to be very well written and without any sense of hate or bitterness, which speaks well of you. But I have to say, YOU made some big mistakes.

First of all, it sounds like you were going there to get laid. PERIOD. Second, you said you were going to go there anyway for your work. Third, you said you'd always wanted to go, so don't blame it on her.

You should have made the reservation yourself. You're INSANE to put that responsibility on anyone else. Did you give her your credit card information so she could book your room for you too ???

It doesn't sound as if you have a lot of experience dating single mother's. You should ALWAYS know something can come up when there are kids involved.

The reason I say you're whining about this is because you sell this thing as the WORST POF dating experience, EVER. Trust me, if you think this is the worst ever, you should consider yourself lucky. You don't even know what BAD is, let alone, WORST EVER. I've had BAD online date experiences which were ten times worse than yours. I don't think you could handle my WORST.

Needless to say, from my online experiences, I believe I've got enough material to tour the country for a year and do my stand-up routine.

When you are older like I am it is scary out there. I am so sorry for what happened. It usually happens to women more often.
I was dating a man, who I thought I knew, for almost a year. We were serious. He got sick with cancer and he was going through hard times. I loved him and he said there was no one but me. He had a Mother he was taking care of and his relatives asked me to take care of her on this week-end while he was out of town getting chemo. He had told me you will see on my computer that women write me emails but they just friends. I believed him. He told me read the email you will see. Well, I did. I saw this plentyoffish site and to tell you the truth I thought it was a cartoon or something and I clicked on. Well there it was all the conversations and the dates he made with these women never deleted anything. Here I am taking care his Mother, he had asked me to marry him. He said I was only one. He was one smooth operator. Well I joined plentyoffish and blocked him. We are still friends and his explanation. I believed him. Let me tell you he sure pulled the wool over my eye's. I thought he was a nice person. I thought committed to me. He wanted me on the sidelines just in case it didn't work out with these women. I wrote one woman he was writing because he was really after her and she had been calling his house. I wrote her that I was taking care of his Mother while he was out of town getting chemo. and after reading all that I did not know what to do. He did say he was sorry and was not going to do that anymore. Well he was right back on. I did not meet this man on a dating site . I was introduced to him. We live close to each other. He seems so very genuine. I know there is a man out there that will treat me better than that. Have respect for me. We had a lot of great times together and fun together. I wish him the best. I also the best for me.

Wow........OP.....Online dating at it's worst. I actually met a man from Ca. who flew here to WV, and it was a relationship that lasted for 6 years and totally changed my life. It ended a year ago, but I am not sorry that I met him. Never did it again though.....LDR rarely work. That I DO KNOW.

hey buddy, sorry to hear about your trip sounds pretty shitty, she sounds like a total lying **** and is a total embaressment to the rest of the sweet ladies we have here in Canada, you win some lose some but keep your head up. Even if she didn't like you, common courtesy should always be expected, karma will take care of this!!!!!!!! As for her side, yes something unexpected could have come up, but come on how hard is a phone call and alittle honesty??????? How would you feel if he left you in L.A. to fend for yourself after all the planning!!?? Oh well this is not my business, just my two cents!!!! cheers everyone

Mate grow up,blokes like you give us a bad name. You were in a big city for hells sake,if she was interested in friends or what ever she would have made the effort from day one, she probably was hoping you would get the hint (but you didn't)
Get out run amok and if she shows up fine if not bad luck find a new one, book your own motels look after yourself shit happens.

I think you had a warning in the beginning when she said she only really wanted to meet you for one day........not four. That is a long date, especially for a first blind date. I would suggest to keep the dates to one day ...........I don't think the mileage is the issue here. Sorry.

Yeah, I have to admit what happened there was rude. But that just shows you that computer land and real life are two totally different realities. A lot worse could have happened. It was definitely a huge inconvenience for you and her (more for you, of course). However, you seem to be somewhat of a risk taker and like adventures so it is good to know that you took the positive out of the situation. I have met a few rude ones off this site myself. I just try to humour them and excuse myself as quick as possible.

OMG people, take responsibility for your own travels and don't blame anything on Canadians. Some of us are sincere, honest, and responsible. No matter what nation your part of rediculous things can happen. Take time to get to know one another, research, ask the right questions and pay close attention to the answers. If anything seems out of the ordinary it is probably a red flag.

Best of luck in your search.

Okay, sounds like that sucked. But sorry, that is nowhere close to the worst POF story I've ever heard (which is the subject heading). She did meet you. She did hang out with you. She had the baby with her at dinner so obviously she sincerely couldn't get a sitter, so why did you complain about that - that's not her fault. You said you wanted to visit Vancouver anyway, and you managed to take care of yourself afterwards. You two probably could have discussed the idea that if things didn't turn out well you'd go your separate ways, because yes, it was extremely rude of her to never talk to you again. I do sympathize with you. But there have been worse stories.

I think the stories of the guy sneaking out the back DURING a date (and leaving the date with his share of the dinner bill to pay too) without even letting her know he was leaving, so that she would be waiting and waiting and then have to figure it out while in public is worse. She was rude, but she didn't sneak out in the middle of dinner at least. There are other horrible stories where people (previous dates, or just stalker types who know the person in another context) have taken on fake personas and made up a fake profile to lead people on. That's pretty cruel (and totally pre-mediated). There's tonnes of stories of people getting totally stood up and having to wait around for the person that never shows up. There are stories of guys just straight out insulting a woman straight out during their meeting. And I haven't heard any date rape stories personally, but it's gotta have happened at some point.

Sounds like your date was a coward. But she probably didn't start out trying to make you feel badly, and probably was just as disappointed in it not working out as you were, but just didn't handle it well. The reason I think the other stories are worse is because there is a lot of mean-hearted intent behind them - faking a profile to string someone along? That takes a cold, messed up heart. Not wanting to spend more than a couple of days with someone who's interested in you but you're not interested in them? That's just fear. Which fits with someone who's "just in this for the forums."

My story is not as bad. I just got out of High School and I was chatting with this girl form PA for 7 months online. (I'm from Massachusetts) We agreed to meet and I decided it would be easier if I travel to PA to meet her. When we were chating I was honest with who I was and told her I was a at that time a guy just getting of High School. I never saw a picture of her but she told me she was 27, no kids, very thin and a stripper who had her own place. Now before I continue I did not want to meet her because she was thin or she was a stripper. I only knew she was thin because she would always tell me she had a had time putting on weight. I knew she was a stripper because after we agreed to meet she gave me the whoel "I have something to tell you" speech thinking I would be turned off by her being a stripper. When I arrive in PA it turns out she is 35, not very thin at all, has two kids at the time ages 3 and 8 and lives in a trailer park. To make matters worse her very jealous ex husband was "looking for me" when I was in in town but we never crossed paths. In the end the girl was just a liar and not nearly as nice as she made herself to be and I did not stay long at all.

OP, agree that the experience was bad, but your conclusion is wrong IMO.

you were hurt, basically, because you didn't think of the possibility of suddenly getting ignored. you didn't have a "Plan B", what if she isn't a nice woman. you didn't know her, so should have prepared an alternative plan...
