Hello Blue Eyed Fishie

Here are two books you may want to pick up
A Travellers Guide to Historic British Columbia by Rosemary Neering $16.95
Barkerville / Williams Creek, Cariboo by Richard Thomas Wright $11.95
Mr Wright is a local historian who has written a couple books now.
My grandfather was a gold panner and I guess I have some of it in me too. lol

If you enjoy questioning life ,people and opinions, take a look at
Ways of Seeing by John Berger it talks about the way we see things, its cool

I collect old odd books. my favorite two are
A reliable guide to sexual happiness for mother and daughter and its male twin
A valuable sex guide for father and son.
both from 1944 and have to be read to believed. The womens copy should be tittled
how to be a good slave to your man lol its funny how the past looked at things.

Hey Hal

I still enjoy the odd comic :)
The key is to read something and keep that brian and imagination working.

I also think if truth was told, more adults read the Potter books then the kids

Night Out:

Thanks for the tips on BC history books. I'll check them out. For many years, I was a teaching assistant for a 3rd undergrad psyc course in Human Sexuality, so I bet I'd get a good laugh out of those historical sex guides from 1944!

though I have not read house of sand and fog, I highly recommend the movie to anybody who appreciates good acting. Jen Connelly and Ben Kingsley put on an acting clinic... Beautiful, unbelievably sensitive performances from both. Blew my mind.

Plus, the story is absolutely horribly tragic and the writing very effective. The direction and pace were perfect for developing the characters, showcasing the actors, and evoking emotion.

I may not pick up the book for a while. Like Gordon Lightfood said: "..and you won't read that book again because the ending's just too hard to take."

All time favorite book is also my all time favorite movie: Pay it Forward

My latest read was 'A Million Little Pieces' by James Frey - what an honest and telling memoir! A Must Read!!! (was on the Oprah Book list for those who care)

Marlin said The DaVinci Code was pretty good...

I like virtually everything written by Wilbur Smith. My first experience with his writing was The Burning Shore - I was hooked from there on in.

Good book I'm reading now is Dancing Naked at the Edge of Dawn by Kris Radish.

I just found another gut wrenching novel for those of you who can emotionally survive reading novels like "A Fine Balance" or "The House of Fog and Sand". It's Ann-Marie MacDonald's "Fall on Your Knees". I don't want to give away the plot, so I'll just say that MacDonald's novel exposes the psychological consequences of life choices and decisions made by a 20th century Cape Breton family...an epic tale of family secrets, lies, and betrayal.

Since I'm out of Kleenex and reluctant to purchase anymore in the near future, does anyone have a little "lighter" summer reading suggestions?

Sidhartha by Herman Hess and almost everything writen by William Deveral

Someone else has read Bill Deveral? Wow...

For those not in the know, he's a former Vancouver criminal lawyer who is now a crime novelist. He's most famous for his mid-80s TV series "Street Legal," shown mostly in Canada (to the relief of many -- I didn't care for it)

His books, though... very good. "Needles"

Now...I love anything Anne Rice, the Vampire series, the Mayfair Witches, and her Erotica..Deant Koontz, Anne Rule, James Patterson, Robin Cook, Peter Straub, J R Tolkein, and John Saul to name a few. I'd like to read Angels and Demons and the Da Vinci Code..I hear they're a great read.
