Posted: 12/9/2008 2:42:56 PM | As a fellow therapist, I applaud many of the posts here ... I do speak of this potential with all of my clients prior to beginning a session.
It is not uncommon for people to get aroused when they are having professional body work done ... as many have stated, we are a very touch deprived society ... even more so when you take into consideration that the "intentional touch" most people lack is far more common than those lacking sexual touch ... it's a normal physiological response and I recognize the potential for that happening during a session ... when or if I think that it could become an issue, I can always apply deeper pressure or change my massage stroke ...
... it's true, though ... it goes both ways ... there is a very natural response when two people are connecting and in synch via touch and / or the co-mingling of energy ... we therapists are human and sometimes we are totally into what's occurring with the release of a lot of repressed physical and spiritual energy from our clients and how that manifests ...
It is totally my responsibility to not broach that trust and too honor that absolutely sacred space ...
As a professional therapist and someone who understands the clear difference between intentional / healing touch & sexual touch, I also realize that the more sacred aspect of what I do for others would totally be compromised if I were an active participant in helping someone to engage those sexual feelings and participate in bringing them off ... not to speak of the professional and ethical liability but also the fact that, under most state laws, a therapist who knowingly participated in that type of behavior could stand accused of, be tried and convicted as a sex offender ... and everyone knows what that entails.

Posted: 12/9/2008 3:27:21 PM | Just so ya'all know, there are a few colleges that do massages, one in bradenton, behind McDonalds, by the interstate on Manatee ave, and yes massages are very sensual, but not intended to be sexual, atleast not while you are paying the person, I also am a massage therapist student, and my ex boyfriend used to love getting massages, and almost always one thing led to another either he got really excited or he fell asleep. They are relaxing, and stimulating at the same time... that is why I got into massage therapy. You do have to make a choice though, realize that if you intend to become socially aquainted with him, he would have to stop being your therapist, he can lose his license, but if you are dating and not paying him for the massage, get as excited as you want... I'd love to date a massage therapist... oooohhhh!!!!! the perks!!!! I completely agree with you, getting a massage is one of the best things to ever happen to the human body.... lol  | |

Kind of like the OP who said he tries to focus on the Golden Girls during a massage, I'll think about the old guys in the movie Cocoon | |

hbessette, you're correct in saying that if you start coming on to the therapist, you're out the door. yes, it's happened to the majority of us. you can bet the farm on that one!
my first - but not worst - was in my first year of practice. he was a big guy, over 6', close to 250 lbs. he didn't want to be covered with a towel, telling me that "in California, they give you a washcloth for down there." I was going to reply, "I don't think you need anything that big" but held off. as the massage progressed, he asked me what I did when a man got an erection. I replied that it was a pretty typical physiological response, one most men can't really control and it didn't bother me, unless the guy tried to use it. he asked what would I do then. I replied, "well, you're naked and on the table, covered with a towel and sheet. I'm on my feet, fully dressed. I can be out the door and dialing 9-1-1 before you can move. And (leaning in closer) if you really tee me off, I'm taking your clothes with me!" he said, "Oh" and was very good the rest of the session.
I never saw him again. another therapist told me that this guy travelled for business and went from DC to Charlottesville, hitting all the female therapists he could find.
you have to be fast on your feet in this business! | |

I think that what it comes down to is quite simple ... RESPECT!!!

Posted: 12/15/2008 9:41:32 PM | Don't feel bad. I am a big pervert too. And, a big glutton for massages. I can get one from anyone, male, female, young or old. The minute someone offers to rub my back. I'm ready to assume my position. Yea, I get turned on by massages at times depending on where I am massaged but since I am a woman I don't think they can tell whether I am turned on or not. It relaxes me and I just love them.
One time some guy flagged me down in the middle of the street. He was therapist, he even had one of those magnet type thing on his car with his license number. He offered me a "free" massage. He wasn't busy at the moment. As, I said its hard for me to say no as long as I knew that was all I was getting into. Well, he comes over with his portable bed and the oils and stuff. After 15 or 20 minutes I turn around and the guys has his****out and is half naked asking me to touch it. I was like "hell no, I am not touching that thing." Like they say, nothing is ever for free.
Men get really horny when they massage me too. I think they offer these massages in hopes of it going further. Some men at least. Well, probably most. Who knows anyway. However, I have guy friends that have been platonically massaging me for years. Of course, I usually cook them dinner or something at times. But, often I am so beat up from whatever that I can't even move.
I just got a nice massage a about 5 hours ago. I love massages. I get at least ten massages a month. | |
