| should prostitution be legal? Posted: 2/22/2006 2:00:08 PM | Prostitution should be legalized today! Let's face it. Men like sex. Married men usually aren't getting nearly as much as they want from the Mrs., and a lot of single men and women want sex but not a relationship. Prostitution would help cure what ails them.
Legalized prostitution would make me a very happy man.

Midnight Child, you are a disgrace to the human race, the very thought that not only you celebrate your adultery but you want to come home and bring AIDS to your loved ones. You don't know the meaning of love and don't deserve a family. May God have mercy on your soul
Lady, that's one of the most ignorant posts I've seen on POF.
Take your ill-informed, bible-beating, judgemental bullsh*t somewhere else.

| should prostitution be legal? Posted: 2/22/2006 10:27:14 PM | Amsterdam is now reviewing their legalization of prostitution. This after they discovered 1500 prostitutes were imported into their city and forced into the trade. It seems the more slack you give the people, the more they want to exploit the freedom.
Legalized prostitution would make me a very happy man.
I'm certainly feel fortunate that I'm not in your shoes having to pay for something I can get free anywhere.
Midgnightchild
I see you have 'children'...ummmm....are they over 18 years of age? Have a daughter? I'm sure a few guy's here would like to pay for her services.....but I'm sure you wouldn't mind eh, big fella? LOL!

| should prostitution be legal? Posted: 2/22/2006 10:54:22 PM | Must agree with Lazyboyz In an ideal world..would anyone want prostitution to exist? I tend to want to strive towards ideal situations. Legalizing and hence legitimizing prostitution would be moving in the wrong direction. Just because its been around for a long time and likely will continue to exist for some time, doesn't mean it should just be accepted. I don't think prostitution can be compared to any other occupation. People have mentioned pimps and drug use and the opportunity for making it a safer practice through regulations as justifications for legalization. It doesn't matter to me if it was a perfectly safe practice..its an issue of dignity. Go after the pimps..and hit em hard. As for the drug abuse, provide treatment. I know outreach programs that offer treatment to sex workers and other addicts already exist. | |

These are the same men who'd have no trouble allowing their own children to prostitute themselves....probably why they are single.

Although I do not participate in extra curricular activity with these sorts of women, and never have;
This is one of the oldest known professions in the world for a reason. It is not going away wether you like it or not.
I think it should be legalized, controlled and regulated.
Just my .02. | |

I agree.
I think we'd have alot less domestic abuse if this happened.... as well as alot less bad marriages.

I certainly believe that every human being should be; No!..Must be allowed to do whatever they want to their bodies. If they are not causing injury to another person/animal who are we, (collective speaking), to control their actions, and I will decide for myself what is bunk, or not..Yep..it's bunk..
Why not legalize prostitution? The only ones who should be ashamed are our fearless leaders. They make as much money as the pimps by arresting, harrassing, incarcerating and levying fines against prostitutes..An exaggeration, perhaps.. Maybe pimps may make a little more...But, no matter, it is not going away, just as it has not gone away for all recorded history...Shame!

| should prostitution be legal? Posted: 4/29/2006 4:33:14 PM | "They have no respect in the community, they add nothing to the community but embarrassment and discust."
I worked in the liquor for a number of years and I have met quite a few prostitutes. In fact, I still have friends who are prostitutes. The ones that I am friends with are not addicts. If you were to sit side by side with one of these girls, no one could spot a difference. I would much rather talk to one of these girls than to a bigoted, vile person who paints all prostitues with the same brush. Perhaps they might have more respect for your community if they were shown a little, not much, just a little respect in return..It is a job, juat like any other job. If a woman doesn't like it, she doesn't have to do it..But be careful of stones that you throw... By all means, legalize prostitutes, and if married men, (I do not engage in sex outside my marriage and, until my divorce is finalized, I will not), stray into the arms of a prostitute, I begin to understand why.

It might make some very unhappy prostitutes..Of course, they can always say that they don't want the job.

| should prostitution be legal? Posted: 4/30/2006 5:17:03 AM | | It all depends on what is the end result we want to see. Do u want to stop the abuse or the prostitution? I dont think Thailand is a very good example to give. Especialy due to all the side effect including AIDS they are facing. However we can learn from their mistakes if we are to legalize prostituiton. And even before that we need to come to the point whether prostitution is somthing that is needed in the society and also need to understand why ppl all these girls become a prostitute. | |

| should prostitution be legal? Posted: 4/30/2006 7:06:58 AM | | I'm on the fence. If it IS legalised, it needs to be regulated with an iron fist to stop the people who import and export human beings as chattel. Permanently. Thing is, even the US is too liberal a country for that. So, realistically, no, I don't think it should be legalised until a country is politically mature enough to handle it. | |

| should prostitution be legal? Posted: 4/30/2006 10:12:47 AM | | Actually it should be legal. That way it could be regulated and there would be less STD transmission. But then when the congressman is taking bribes from organized crime which makes big bucks on it I highly doubt it ever will be. | |

| should prostitution be legal? Posted: 4/30/2006 11:24:35 AM | I think from a public policy decision this makes a lot of sense from an economic standpoint, as well as a social services one as well.
Most people engaged in the sex trade are at risk, but not all consider the work degrading or humiliating.
Legalization would offer regulation, social benefit via taxes, allow for career transition programs, and remove a majority of the bad elements surrounding the industry.
Ethically, I'd say a majority of people arent in favour, or wouldnt want to be on record as being in favour. In the end, these workers provide a service, and there is a market for said service... not saying I agree with this at all, but from a strictly public policy standpoint... this would be a good move.
Will it ever happen... well... give it 10-15 years!

| should prostitution be legal? Posted: 4/30/2006 11:43:25 AM | Yes it should...
I have said it before, then they can pay taxes just like everyone else... have routine check ups to prevent diseases...
As well, perhaps business men then can write off them as tax breaks...
|
| should prostitution be legal? Posted: 4/30/2006 5:43:59 PM | Yes make it legal! Do as done in other place, pick stops on the outskirts of town and make them the district where it all goes down. Have the workers be tested weekly, pay taxes, and the local government can use the cash for local needs. People who choose to attednwould be carded like at clubs of to but certain products, also to help track any out break of infection. Then legal the drugs inorder to end the cartels, without the drug there is no cash, with no cash there is no power, with no power there is no reason to kill for it. | |
