Just a question - would anyone consider a diet in which you would lose 10-17 lbs. per week? A friend of mine told me about a diet that hospitals put overweight patients on before they can have their heart surgery. It apparently cleanses your system as well....my friend lost 3 lbs. the first day.
As for myself, I could probably stand to lose 30 lbs. I have been a "pleasingly plump" woman (God bless the man who described me that way!) most of my life and do carry my weight well but getting tired of the extra 2" of insulation all around lol. Exercise does do me some good, it's just getting my ass motivated!

Hmmm - have you ever gained 10-17 lbs in a week?

I'm thinking there is something quite not right about either gaining or losing that much in a week ... and if you are wanting to lose this much this quick .. I'm thinking it's not your weight you should be worried about .. ;)

I joined the YMCA to help take off the extra pounds I want to. I'm swimming and doing aqua fit classes because my knees won't take high impact exercise. I can do some weight training, but must be careful not to abuse my old bones. lol I do eat smart but will not follow a diet. It's more about lifestyle choices then diets anyway.

I'm 5'9" and there is nothing petite about me at all. I'm not obese, although I do have a little tummy overhang when I sit down and I could sit a boom box on my butt. lol OK...I am somewhat joking, but you get the point. I need to lose a few.

Even though I do have the hourglass figure, I'm still very much aware that between my height and the extra pounds, I look like an Amazon. So, I feel awkward dating men who are skinny and shorter then me. I feel like I tower over them. lol But, if they don't mind....I'm more interested in finding a life partner then a perfect male specimen.

I'm more concerned with looking toned at this point then meeting any height/weight ratio. I'm not looking for tight abs and buns, just toned ones that don't jiggle when I dance nude in front of my bathroom mirror. lol

I think the best inspiration for getting into the right head space to lose weight and turn your life around is to watch both Bridget Jones movies or read the books. lol She breaks down so many social taboos about being "just a little fat". She's my lovable, bumbling heroine. lol

sweetred yes there is a diet like that, all tomato based or something, that heart patients are recommended but as I said in a previous post, you didn't put the weight on in one week, taking it off in one week will NOT stick unless you eat that diet for the rest of your life and that won't happen.

Dr. Bernstein clinics also take the weight off fast with vitamin shots and a very low calorie intake, but once again, most put weight back on. I stick to change your eating lifestyle.

I tried the hospital diet/cabbage diet, think I lost a few pounds but that was about it. Was really good soup tho, but sticking to that alone doesn't really fill you up for long. If you wanna try it, you need a large stock pot tho. Soups great in the winter and it's healthy and you can eat as much as you want also.

I totally agree, tried a few things but sure doesn't take long to put it back on, especially once u get older. It really is about changing your eating habits and s/ excercise as much as possible.

So, we are bigger.

I will NOT tell you my story of how I got to be the way I am. I will tell you though that I have been consciously changing patterns of behaviour for my health and that I REFUSE to let a number determine who I am as a person.

I eat breakfast EVERYDAY.
I drink 8 to 14 glasses of water a day.
I eat A LOT of salad.. .could live off the stuff.
Should I eat anything "bad" I don't punish myself.
I take a multi vitamin every day.
I do cardio everyday.
I do upper body work with pilates bands.
(An Ab-roller is an amazing thing to use.)

So long as I feel comfortable in my own skin and clothes... in the end it doesn't matter how people see me...

The best quote I read in a fitness magazine, "Consider how long it took you to put the weight on, it should take you approximately that much time to take it off."

I posted basically the same thing, quote not exact but close enough.

I don't recall people saying they were doing it for other's, all posts appeared to be for ourselves.

Northy2 - I wouldn't go on the diet myself....10-17 lb loss is too quick for one week.

Yes all is good - it's tomato based I think, some carrots, and Liption Chicken Noodle Soup mix - the friend that is on the diet has lost 9 lbs so far, but is totally sick of the soup. I'm ok with the way I am, would rather exercise and eat right though I think.

Ciao signorina spackamoro ( spankster) , i went from 212 pds b4 christmas to 197 , im still losing but i'm doing it right. Lots of cardio ,include chunk light tuna ( preferebly in water) in your diet with a peice of flax bread instead of a regular sandwich . Green apples are good , knock off the pop and drink lots of water , just some tips , things i've done for myself . I'm improving , mind you i also have been working out a lot, NATURALLY, no needles . Spanks you look great already but if you really want this and work your ass off for it you should do well.

My 2 cents

taw..thank you so much ma-che-fai-tu on the comps and the tips. It's not every day that I get "you look great already" but it sure is nice to hear. So cheers to you, my friend.

When I first started my weight-loss battle a year ago November (a month after my separation) I cut out ALL soft drinks (pop, high sugar juices, etc) and stuck with more water than what I was used to (which was none..lol). So in the first month alone I lost 10 pounds on doing that. So I know what you mean now.

I am at, unfortunately, a plateau in my weight loss, so it's time to kick my butt into gear, start the Pilloties, and start sweating it out. Heck, dancing is great, and I'm doing a lot of that lately weather it be at the bar or at home alone.

Thanks again!!

to db and northy: thanks for the suggestions and I have had dieticians reccommend the same thing to me with the shakes and all. I eat well for a small guy a lot of people wonder where i put it all I eat healthy too I love fruit, vegetables and all. I will look into the shakes and I guess i could have those as like a snack in between meals i guess. Before i do that I will check with my doc to make sure I can have the shakes.

For now going to go gain a bit of weight by having some spaghetti for dinner lol

Sweetread - wow sounds like quite a lot of salt (you know how much salt is in Liptons soup? - it is basically a big chunk of salt that tastes like chicken that dilutes in water .. haha) - which will retain water, which is a no-no .. doesn't sound like a great diet to me ... lol

Nope, not for me - retain enough water as it is....lol
I did a few things for myself, I quit drinking Diet Coke, carbonation makes you bloated along with the sodium (funny thing, headaches and stomach pain disappeared too), started eating canteloupe and honeydew melon, sweet but good, and have lost a few pounds. But would like to know of a good place to start - Curves? Mademoiselle? Don't want to pay high prices for a membership...

Wow, alot of stories here really hit home for me.

Ive had too much extra weight ever since I was preggers with my last child. He is almost 13 now and I still cant get the weight off. Last January I went on a crash diet and along with work and walking every night I managed to lose 31 pounds in just under 4 months. That was far too much in a short time according to the doc but I felt great.

Since May I have put back on about 22 of those pounds so it's time to get it off again. I get alot of exercise at work but I dont walk at night anymore and I cant kick the bagel and cafe mocha habit (gotta have my Timmies every day) Im a suck in the winter and hate walking in the blistering cold. It doesnt help that I get home from work and sit inside doing bugger all in the evenings. I need to get out, lol.

Anyone in the K/W area want to get in shape with me??
We could get out and get some exercise, support each other with cutting out the junk foods and have some fun at the same time. I was thinking starting with 2-3 evenings a week.
Send me a message and lets get that weight off. (I want to be back in my size 5 jeans by May) Not to mention the killer bathing suit I bought in the summer that doesnt fit anymore, lol.

Lets get out and do this people...

Eating less junk food and exercising a bit more is all that anyone needs to do to lose weight. I was 277 lbs when my son was born 4 years ago. Today I weigh 218. I didn't go on a diet; I just got off my ass and stopped eating so much Dominos and McD's. I also gave up pop and started drinking more water. I should market my diet, and make some mula! But damn, I just gave away all my secrets.

My Story: I lost 50 lbs a few years ago by exercise and weight watchers. I maintained the lose for 2 years or so .... then I quit smoking and started eating junk food. I couldn't stop myself. The weight was coming back and I didn't care. My good eating habits had gone down the tubes.

One day I decided to get back on the scales. I had gained almost all of the 50 lbs I had lost previously. I got angry ... I walked downstairs and told my son that all the junk food was gone and I was going shopping. I told him I wasn't buying anymore junk food. So I stopped buying junk food and started buying lots of fruits and vegetables. I also adopted a dog from the Humane Society and I walk 45 to 60 minutes pretty much every day. I have lost 12 lbs and I'm shooting for another 40 lbs. I'm not putting any time limit on it. I just want to keep eating healthier and exercising. I do weigh myself once a week to keep things in check, but I'm really just wanting to feel better inside and out.

I'm really glad that you started this thread. It was nice to read everyones stories and see that there will be a lot of support in this group.
