Great subject!

Has anyone thought of Weight Watchers? I've lost 47 pounds in 6 months. Their points plan lets me eat like a human and I feel great. I want to drop another 60. It will take me another 7 or 8 months, but I'll do it. For all you big girls out there - if you want to feel like a goddess, go out and buy beautiful lingerie. I used to wear granny panties (my daughter calls them). I switched and I feel like I can rival Bo Derek.

anyway, after the dentist yesterday, something else & a dear jane...my girlfriend got me back out to the gym...I always forget how much I love it...now if I can just knock off the cheating on the diet I'll be good...and I'm doing it for me, which is key, not for someone else

Well thanks to this thread, I have now started on my weight loss regime....I was going to but kept saying tomorrow....Last nite, I did 21 minutes on the treadmill to start..not much I know but after being off it for some time, I need to work back up....also, more water, veggies and fruit...will also add some weights....If I can go down 5 lbs a month, I figure in 3 months I will be where I want to be..brings me right into May and those skinny clothes!
Thanks gals for sharing your stories...it really does help the rest of us to get the lead out!

here is what works for me- the "get of your ass and move" diet.
plain and simple, people it's not brain surgery, if you want to loose weight eat less and move around more.
try it
(not trying to sound harsh, it just drives me crazy everyone looking for secret to weight loss)

I don't think anyone here has said they are looking for a miracle cure...

I don't recall reading anything about pills or some of those other crazy ways to lose weight except for the diet you get put on before surgery...

In my opinion, your response seems inappropriate rather than "harsh".

Before I start, anyone clear on the threshold between Average and A few extra pounds on POF?
Average is a poor choice of words IMHO because sadly Average = A few extra pounds in many places. A date recently told me I'm "Average" not "A few extra pounds", so I've changed my profile. Back on topic; I started losing after University. I've lost almost 60 pounds of fat now.

2.2lbs/1kg a week is a nice healthy number to be losing. 10-17lbs a week!? That's just crazy and unhealthy. If you are losing more than 3kg a week and you should start worrying. IMHO, aside from being unhealthy, trying to lose too quickly usually looks bad too because your skin can't shrink that quickly.

The only way you lose fat successfully is learning how you put it on in the first place. I found the best way to do that was a lot of reading and by taking advantage of the help of a real fat loss doctor. They are one of the few relatively unbiased sources out there. It's all about learning, not starving. If you are eating the right foods, you can stuff yourself and still lose fat. You should never be hungry, if you are you probably doing something wrong. Exercise is important too, I do 3 hrs a week at the gym doing both weight and cardio.

The key, for me anyways, was to reduce my insulin spikes. I did this by drastically replacing much my raw sugar/simple starch intake with healthier foods, and increasing my dietary fibre intake.

A lot of little dietary changes made that a lot easier:
-Replacing sugar with Splenda/Sucralose and carrying Splenda packets with me when I go out
-Eating higher fibre foods like bran wraps and Spoon Sized Shredded Wheat with Bran
-Replacing sugary deserts with healthy ones like fruit or splenda sweetened yogurt
(I Source 0% yogurt, they even have yummy desert combos like: Lemon Meringue Parfait, Chocolate Cherry Fondue, Strawberry Chantilly, Raspberry Cranberry Crumble)
-Replacing sugary Coke with water, Splenda sweeted flavoured water, diet rite, 7up plus etc.
-Replacing chips with assorted raw veggies and spicy hummus (super yum!)
-Replacing fast junk food with Subway salads and the odd healthy Pita/wrap.
-Replacing potatoes, pizza and pasta with other more healthy foods. I found a good soy pasta
so I can still enjoy an italian dinner. Oh then there are Subway meat ball salads 8op
-Switching to darker chocolate and limiting my consumption to no more than an oz a day.

My food today for example:
A Centrum multivitamin, Calcium, Potassium and Magnesium supplement.
Breakfast: Cottage Cheese 2% + Grapes + Coffee w/ Splenda & 10% Cream
Snack: Caramel Nut Protein bar (provided by doctor)
Lunch: Smoked Meat with Mustard, Deluxe mixed bean salad vinaigrette, baby carrots and hummus, a bit of 17% mf havarti cheese.
Dinner: Pork Stir Fry with mixed vegetables, Fresh Fruit salad and Tea
Snack: Wild Berry Protein bar
8 glasses of liquid during the day

Anyways I'm rambling...
Good luck to you all, getting fit is by far the best thing you can possibly do for yourself.

Sonny's fish and chips are the best...

But back on topic:

I've never been the best eater so I finally went out and bought some one-a-day vitamins at Shoppers after talking to a pharmacist.

2nd day taking them and the same thing happened as yesterday - within half an hour of swallowing it - I threw up.

Yesterday I thought it might have been stress-related as I had a stressy early morning but today... no freakin clue

Hello,
I have lost, gained, lost and gained weight since my early twenties till now. What I found out for my last weight lost was that certain foods made me gain weight more than others, basic if you want to lose weight, you would need to find out what foods actually make you gain weight and for a period of time not to eat those foods, remember never to eat when you are emotional. Eat when you are hungry and eat many meals. For myself, any food with wheat, sugar, and too much salt. The rule is the foods that are sweet, sour and salty, will in general help to increase body weight. Foods that are bitter, astrigent and pungent in taste help to reduce weight. Basicly, finding a balance in this after you have lost your weight. Never feel your denying yourself or you will find a way to sabotage yourself and the weight is just a symptom, it may mean there is a part of yourself that is being hidden. But that's just me...so find out if any of these work for you. Still very generally speaking.

This is a great thread to have, because we all need motivation.. I'm looking to lose between 80-100lbs.. I started eating healthier and a cardio workout. 5 times a week and I have lost 15lbs in the last month. I think everyone has to realize that it's taken them years to put on the weight and can't expect it to be gone just like that.
I made a deal with a friend that when I lose the weight, she will have to do the 5k run for breast cancer with me in Oct., 2006. Maybe ladies that's a goal we can all work towards. Yes you can walk it too...

So remember for me it's taken 29 years to get where I'm at... so it will take a while to get where I really want to be.

Eat healthy and stay safe.
