No problem, It's worth the trip to Waterloo. Hmm, doesn't have the same ring as "Worth the trip to Acton..." Have to work on that...LoL..
Sit ups are OK, but if you have been very heavy, don't do them unless your back hurts.
Sounds wierd I know, but bear with me (no pun intended)...
As we lose weight one of the first things that happens, even before we change clothes sizes, is that we move a little differently. We turn corners a little tighter, and faster. Because we can. We stand up and move differently. Twisting and turning becomes just that little bit easier. The problem is in a little thing called physics. As we twist and turn we develop centrifugal (I know it's a pseudo-force, but it describes what's happening..) force. The force is related to the SQUARE of the rotational speed. As a result a tiny change in how fast you can move can have a huge impact on the load you muscles have to handle.
So, if your stomach muscles are normal, your body shifts gears. No pain. If your stomach muscles are weak, the rotational strain is taken by the back muscles. Has to get taken by something or you would just twist around like a string...That strain translates to back pain.
If you have back pain and are loosing, or gaining a lot. Do sit ups. Every other day or every third day. Aim for a low number like 10-20. And do them slower with more "crunch" time at the top. Intensity is more important than speed and number.
Make sense? | |

| Weight Loss...I'm Confiding in my Fellow Fishies Posted: 3/29/2006 7:20:30 PM | So how's everyone's weight loss goals coming along. Myself, not too good. Been focussing on my (previous) move and (previous) party that I hosted, but I'm kicking my a*** in gear sometime soon and getting a gym membership. Somewhere I know my friends will be, and that will motivate me even more.
Here i come salads, water, and exercise!!

| Weight Loss...I'm Confiding in my Fellow Fishies Posted: 3/29/2006 7:27:32 PM | I got rid of 185 pounds in one day.....kicked his sorry a$$ out the door.....
But in all due seriousness, they do state that it gets harder as you get older. I was always a petite woman and one day I saw a picture of myself and wondered where the heck all that weight had come from. I couldn't handle doing the weight watchers thing by counting points and I needed a quick fix so I did the herbal magic. Started looking really good then got pregnant....That was hard to absorb (for obvious reasons) but after I had the baby,(one year later) I was so depressed because I had become large again so I decided to try exercise and started doing Tae-bo. I picked up the basic 20 min tape and that burns 900 calories in one workout. I am hooked and still doing pretty good with it too. Kicking and punching.......gets alot of frustrations out too.

| Weight Loss...I'm Confiding in my Fellow Fishies Posted: 3/29/2006 7:45:21 PM | If anyone is interested there are body building sites on the internet with calorie burning calculators, plus flipping through body building books at chapters is viable too.
There are guidlines too for age and weight. Plus I'd have to ask my brother I believe it was medical clinic of some sort where he bought a book that lists all types of foods and calorie counts in it. The diabetic hand book I think it is called.
I never had a hardtime dropping my calorie intake down personally. Getting use to green food and white meats was the hard part lol.
Big serving of Rabbit food = 100 calories Normal hamburger = 500 calories.
Hope this helps | |

| Weight Loss...I'm Confiding in my Fellow Fishies Posted: 3/29/2006 7:48:56 PM | weight can sneak up on you......one day I was 120 (long time ago) ....then I got pregnant and went to a wopping 170 lbs....of course I justified because I was carrying an extra person...that justifcation went down hill when she came out weighing less than 8 lbs
that was 18 years ago and since then I have fluctuated until I realized ..eat 6 small meals day....never eat after 7:30 pm, drink at least 8 glasses of water a day and go get yourself two big dogs that love to take me for a run!
it is balance.....if you balance everything in life...you will be happy

| Weight Loss...I'm Confiding in my Fellow Fishies Posted: 3/31/2006 8:49:49 AM | ^^^ there is only one diet pill that has ever worked, they are also called uppers and only drug dealers has them, they are great for filling your teeth, getting house cleaning done by 4am and all around insanity. Thus the ones that really do work are banned and illegal.
4 methods I know of that works, is exercise and/or weight training, starvation, and rumoured is the akins diet, which is a zero carb diet, my brother was put on a zero carb diet he lost weight and fast, it was only for a couple weeks because it was dangerious. He had triglicerines in his blood.
Last method is counting calorie's. A 200 pound man can typically eat 2000 calories per dar with no exercise and not gain weight. (10 calories per pound) A 200 pound women can typically eat 1700 calories per day and not gain weight (8.5 calories per pound)
Add on 1 to 1.5 hours of weight training per day 3 to 6 days a week for a guy and his calorie's per day goes up to about 3000 per day and a women (best guess for this one) would be 2600 per day.
Ever hear people say, wow he's so lucky he can eat anything he wants and not gain a ounce. Those are the people who are active for a hour a day, I'm 200 pounds and couldn't eat 3000 calories if I tried. (well maybe 3 trips through the mcdonalds drive through would do it)

| Weight Loss...I'm Confiding in my Fellow Fishies Posted: 3/31/2006 11:14:10 AM | If anyone is looking for a free online way to track their weight loss, exercise and calories, they can go to www.sparkpeople.com It tells you how many calories to consume each day and how much exercise to do and which types and you log it. It's set up so you lose 1 to 2 lbs per week. I've lost 66lbs since mid October, which is averaging 2.9 lbs per week. They even have suggested meals for people that just aren't sure what to eat.
congrats to everyone who is losing.

| Weight Loss...I'm Confiding in my Fellow Fishies Posted: 5/17/2006 6:29:16 PM | Hey Spanky,
I know all about trying to lose weight...for half of my life now. In 1985..I weigh 140, my height is 5'10"....even at that weight....people said I was "fat". People can be so cruel.....in 1992, I weigh 170....after trying several weight loss programs. At this present time, I weigh 215.....Weight loss programs from The diet Center to the current Weight Watchers. I walk everyday, 3 miles or more....but now I am gaining muscle, and muscle weighs more than fat...that sucks too. Because of my height, I can hold my weight pretty good....but I want to be down to 175, according to my doctors....that would make me more healthier than I am now. So, it nice to know there are more of you fishies out there....that are all in the same boat....encouragment is a great thing from a fellow fishie.

| Weight Loss...I'm Confiding in my Fellow Fishies Posted: 5/17/2006 9:39:15 PM | Hey Mae.. I completely understand what ya mean!
I have told people how much I weigh... and their response was GET REAL there is NO way you weigh that much...
My weight story ---- Never been skinny... short & simple! I was the tallest in my class thru public school... and always chubby... I took after my dad so i have a big frame to begin with... and in my family you are either short & chubby or tall & skinny... Welll lets just say between my brother & I ... he got the height... i got the looks!
I have recently within the last year) lost 50+ pounds... and I'm aiming for a minimum of another 50 by the end of this year... it took me 30 years to get this big... I'm not in a huge hurry to loose it!
I do agree that physical stuff is a great way to burn the calories... I've started walking every night... my daughter rides her bike and I try to keep up with her... little monkey is getting fast!
I've been eating better... eating 5 meals instead of 2... and instead of saying NO to something... I say yes... but in moderation... don't deprive yourself completely or you won't want to stick with your lifestyle change!
I'm not a dieter... i'd rather be happy that to cheat myself outta something good... we don't know how long we are going to be here... so why make ourselves miserable!
Great post btw... Good luck to all of you in your journey! I'll be back with updates!

| Weight Loss...I'm Confiding in my Fellow Fishies Posted: 5/17/2006 9:45:07 PM | Try this website if you are looking to count calories, change your diet or just want to eat healthy.
w.nutritiondata.com/explorer.html
I have had surgery just a few months ago and I am back at training and so the pounds are coming off. I am also trying to follow a low Alkaline diet. It helps lower acidic levels and gives you better stamina, energy and keeps lactic acid build up lower. Anyway, thought that website would help out.
Oh yeah a girl in my Mixed Martial Arts class I teach has lost 26 pounds since January, she rocks.
Good luck to all

| Weight Loss...I'm Confiding in my Fellow Fishies Posted: 5/18/2006 7:09:47 AM | 14 months ago I weighed 95lbs. I am 5'0". I don't even know what my weight is at now. I'm afraid to check. I've started working out again. Cardio on my treadmill. I was able to do 12-15km on my inline skates shortly before I became pregnant. My weight gain was a result of frustration in meeting all the wrong men. Mentality was I get fat, men won't want me, I don't get hurt. BIG MISTAKE. I have never been where I am now but I want to get rid of it as fast as I can. | |

| Weight Loss...I'm Confiding in my Fellow Fishies Posted: 5/21/2006 4:51:39 PM | Ok lets update.....I was post #20 last time so you can get the background info.
I spend way too much time in the car travelling for work. Solution? Alternating Buttcheek flexes, I have a mini-barbell for arm curls....and i've been pulled over twice by the cops on Hwy 11 for strange behaviour behind the wheel
I walk. I'd like a walking buddy. But not one that wants to talk cause I have a walkman on with sweating to the oldies & the odd time dance hall reggae.. or cares what they look like because I am a HORRENDOUS SWEATY MESS when I'm done my walks. I try to walk at a pace of "omg theres a weird guy following me so I can't look like i'm trying to run but I'd better get my ass moving" speedwise
But I'm not weighing myself.. theres a certain way I want to look and a weight number has nothing to do with it Spanks.. I think you should pony up and move to Barrie.. to walk with me among other reasons

| Weight Loss...I'm Confiding in my Fellow Fishies Posted: 6/24/2006 7:03:57 PM | Hello All,
Like many of you I have been blessed with lots of curves and extra weight. I was a normal weight as a kid, gained weight, lost it , gained it, lost it, was skinny and thought I was still fat (the image in the mirror never changed even when I was a size 6 and have gained it again. I have tried all sorts of diets, none of them really worked and most recently I actually gained all of my weight becuase I was working out constantly - I found out later that I had stressed adrenal glands and as a result my body was in constant shock from lack of sleep over the years combined with not eating enough food. Currently I am losing weight again and I want to share a few tricks and tips with my fellow beauties out there.
1) You can work out daily in small measures - Do pushups against the wall in the bathroom daily to strengthen your arms - takes about 5 minutes until you feel them burn. 2) do 50 to 100 sit-ups every day - takes about 7 minutes 3) do butt dips using a chair, couch or end of your bed from home - put your ams behind you, and put yourself into a sitting position and then lift using your thighs and butt - if you extend higher you will feel a burn in your lower stomach 4) walk whenever you can but amazingly - get yourself a jump rope - just 10 minutes of rope jumping a day is amazing for your cardio and for everywhere else 5) Do isometrics when you can - if you are watching tv - put your arms out in from of you parallel to each other and with small movements reach forward - five minutes and your arms will burn.
I have been working these tiny and soooooooooo easy things into my daily life since March - so far I ahve lost about 25 lbs. In terms of food, I have never really been a junk food person and eat quite healthy- whole grains, vegetables, fruits, never drink pop, leaner meats, and mostly I try not to eat out as much anymore. The trick I found becuase like many of you is that in the morning - I can't really eat is to have a protein shake - but most importantly with something called Eudo's oil that I add into it - it's essential fatty acids - and for some reason by having those fats in the am - almost all of my cravings for fat or junkfood are minimalized throughout the day. Also, I have started eating throughout the day - I usually begin around noonish with real food - healthy stuff and then mibble all day long until about 7 pm.
So far the little exercising I have been doing has had even better results then when I hit the gym hard regularly which is what I was doing and it's because it's isometrics based - the trick try to isolate the musles in the areas you want to lose and figure out which actions isolate the muscle and repeat. Lots of stuff can be done even while driving, sitting, on the phone, lying in bed - yes..the sexercise method is good..but only if you can find a lover who can rock your world to the sweating point and is good at getting you into those gumby positions. But something you can do while lying in bed is butt squeezes, lie on your back and try to squeeze your ass checks together - practice repeatedly and it will help firm your ass and hips as well and getting you into practice for those sexercise moments - lol
Anyways, Like yourselfs I am on the road to health - doing it for myself - there are still those skinny clothes in my closet that are still in fashion and dammit I want to wear them! Will keep you updated with my progress...only 50 more pounds to lose! Good luck and tons of hugs!!
