Okay, now that is nasty... who in their right mind would put stinky smelly not real meat grease on their lips. You definitely would not have a partner wanting to kiss them lips!!!

Chittlins/Chitterlings/Chitlins...however you want to spell it.

This was a favorite dish with my parents and extended family. UGH!!!
I don't understand the appeal at all. It smells like poo on fire. The smell literally made me wake from my sleep screaming one time.

I can understand people eating it when options are slim to none. However pig butthole just doesn't sound like a great idea if you have other food options.

I guess it's obvious I'd never win Fear Factor.

Now balut, I wouldn't even go near, and the thought of somebody offering me stinky tofu, oh hell no! Never! I'd rather eat bark off a tree first! And Durian fruit, to see how it offends people makes me think of onions and eggs gone bad! EWWWW GOD!

Most of the foods that have been listed...I have noted...they apparently were not prepared correctly. Okra should be washed and allowed to sit over night..no slime.

I do agree that some just taste or smell bad--we are hardwired that way.

I can't stand soft fruit. I want my apple crisp and tart. A sweet mellow apple will grow in my mouth.

any form of fresh seafood isnt spose to smell... surprisingly uncooked seafood doesnt have an odour to it until it are a few days old...

Aint that the truth! Same with wild game, its not supposed to taste gamey if the cook knows what their doing!!
I've tried to get folks to try venison, various this or that and the ONE previous experience ruined them. So...naturally, I trick them- rabbit sausage, venison meatballs etc etc

i donno if thats such a good idea...you may think its a good way to get ppl to try different foods but the results could be devastating...i have never "hid" anything i am serving to anyone regardless of the situation

Escargo.

Frog legs.

Head cheese and blood pudding. Ugh.

I hear hagus and Veggamite are pretty nasty, wouldn't want to try either.

Balut looks nasty, I've seen them eaten on the television show Survivor. Ugh.

Rocky Mountain Oysters. I dated a guy (great guy, we're still friends) who loves them, eats them when he can. I'm just glad they're hard to find around here, I couldn't imagine going out to dinner with him with him sitting across from me eating them. EEEEEEK!

They offer a wild game night at an upscale restaurant around here about this time of year, one Saturday night each March. They offer things like rattlesnake, boar, bear, venision, bison, pheasent, ostrich and I *think* one year they had lion, but I could have been so weirded out by the menu it could just be my imagination.

I've seen more than one reference in books that mountain men/trappers rated "lion" at or near the top .

As to "wild" , nothing materialized on the planet already domesticated /shrinkwrapped with a pricetag on it .

What I wonder about is what sort of soul was the first one to eat _____ ? (whatever)
Reeealy hungry , or kinda slow upstairs ?
And if their "programming" was off would the rest of the tribe try it anyhow ?
Some folks just don't like some things . I know , for example , that there's nothing wrong with asparagus .
But if I'd tasted it first , I wouldn't have wasted an inch of garden space on it forever more .
And how many "starvin' Marvins" were the first & last to sample somethin' poisonous ?
Or was the low man in the cave's "club" the equivalent of the King's food taster later on ?
"Feed it to Grog .... watch & wait ...... "

If you have an issue with the 'game' taste. An overnight soak in milk will handle that. Same thing with fish even though fresh fish does not smell, it does help to reduce the smell that some still smell.

edit: i love deer/moose meat, elk and bear burgers! great stuff. i don't like rabbit (cause i'd seen someone turn Thumper inside out in 2 secs.) or duck.

alacart ... I hear they're a real delicacy. I think you have to be raised eating them to appreciate them or at least that's my excuse not to try them. Haha! I was raised eating scrapple, I bet a lot of people would EEEEK! at it!

blues49 ... I hear ya! Who was the first person to eat a sea urchin? And who thought, "Hey! We got a head! Let's make cheese!" I think about "the first person" often.

I just looked up the restaurant in our area to see if they have the game menu up on their site, but they do not. I found an article about it though that mentioned in the past they've had lion, giraffe, kangaroo and now alligator chili and elk steak are staples on their daily menu because so many people liked them. Alligator chili? EEEEK! Okay, I might try the chili.
