Sending messages but not showing up in the sent message area
Posted: 5/19/2008 6:32:33 PM
I've tried everything I know of to get the message through to the person I'm tryingto contact. I have sent messages to other persons before AND after having attempted to message her. I have not posted more than 4 copied messages per day. I have not sent more than 40 first-contacts in any MONTH, much less on the days on which my messages have failed. I am not from any of the countries on the "bad people" list. I have been accused of being verbose, but it NEVER takes me 7800 characters to convey ANY thought worth conveying on here. I do not know what a character ending is, I would not recognize UNICODE, and I do not speak a word of Chinese. I have engaged in no linguistic maneuver with this person's e-mail which does not go through PERFECTLY WELL on other persons' e-mails. There is no postal code/distance limit associated with either profile, nor would it apply if there was. This is the second time in six months that THIS malady has beset me. If there is ANY commonality between the two persons whom I attempted to contact, I am not aware of it. Two differently named profiles, with substantially different content to be found therein. I might believe that ONE of these persons decided to block me immediately upon receiving my rather innocuous introduction, but the likelihood of it happening twice is a bit more remote. In this case, would I not receive a message that my profile and messages had been blocked?

Before I am admonished to don a Sherlock Holmes hat and put hand magnifier in hand, I think it important to point out that I've already done a more than reasonably thorough job of trying to make these messages fly. and I have a very clear conscience on the prospect of it being MY problem.

If this website, by some bizarre machination does something that makes it impossible for me to contact the people I'd like to, I question its utility.

I am having the same problem, despite matching all the email critera met by the person's profile whom I wish to send an email to, & not including any suspect words or phrases. I send an email, the systems says incorrectly "Email sent", when I look in my sent items it is not there.

The only "crime" I appear to have committed is to have sent more than 4? SIMILAR polite introductory messages within a set timescale. The messages are similar because my introduction (hello paragrph) & sign off (goobye paragaph) are similar within the each message. If there is something morally wrong with this I would like to know what on earth it is!!! I personalise other parts (in the middle) with something that proves that I have read the other person's profile. The POF "Thought Police" system has picked up on the sections of my emails that are the same/similar & classed them as duplicate emails. It even happens when I change the text so that the hello/goobye sections are not even the same.

Now when I send a brand new email with no duplicated text at all to the same person, this is not sent either because I have tried to send over a certain amount of messages. This is not good. It smells of Big Brother.

If POF can be programmed to scan for suspect text, duplicate texts, & number of emails (& still get it wrong) can I suggest that the people who run/program POF program it to say "EMAIL NOT SENT" & give a reason WHY, instead of saying "EMAIL SENT". This is a bug in the system. Why does it say "EMAIL SENT" when The email has not been sent. Better still, why not program it so emails could be sent.

THIS IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AS PAY SITE & A FREE SITE. CUSTOMER SERVICE.

It is also worth interesting that more emails sent = more bandwith used.
More bandwith used = more money spent.
more money spent = pay site.
So, with the above in mind, maybe emails are not being sent for the above reason & POF are being economical with the truth here.

The reason (that I have read) for why you don't get an error message is not because of any conspiracy or lack of programming skill or bandwidth.

It's because scammers try to use the system, and POF tries to make it harder for them. Because scammers blast out tons of messages, it's better for them to think that it's working (when it's not), than for you to think it's not working (when it's not). Furthermore, if the scammers see an error as to WHY, then they will correct the error.

Does that make sense? I know it stinks, but that is the way the owners of this site run things.

Bandwidth isn't a problem. This site makes $$$$ on Google ads. Google it to find out how much it has reportedly made/day. One week's revenue here probably pays for the bandwidth, but it's a guess.

They need to add a @#$%! captcha and be done with it! How is it that this thread started over 2 years ago and the problem has still not been resolved? If this site makes so much money, hire someone that actually knows what they're doing!

I'm with spiraldive, there is no excuse for displaying "Message Sent" when the message hasn't been delivered. That is exceptionally misleading. And the list of rules that have to be followed just to send a simple message is unacceptable (to me at least).

I can't tell you how PISSED I am that I lost my message... I put a lot of thought into it and now it's lost forever. Thanks a bunch! POF is a POS!

Thank you for the list of possible reasons. My hope is that her postal code was entered wrong, the other reason may be that i have been blocked for some reason. and i do not wish to think that is the case, it might make me cry.

But if her postal code is wrong... how can she corect it if no one can tell her there is a problem with her emails?

More pertinant, why do you pose a Question containing a false Presumption?

And the list of rules that have to be followed just to send a simple message is unacceptable (to me at least).

They are not all Rules, but Statements on Function, borne out of Investigation & Testing the E-Mail System.

there is no excuse for displaying "Message Sent" when the message hasn't been delivered. That is exceptionally misleading.

As has been mentioned endlessly on this Thread, and which you should read in its entirety before making any more Assertions, its to hinder Spammers and Scammers, and the Admin has opted for this Course of Action to deal with it. Don't like it, here is the Door ---> Account Deletions

Thanks a bunch! POF is a POS!

I'll give you some Time to read this Thread before making any more dumb Comments.

My hope is that her postal code was entered wrong, the other reason may be that i have been blocked for some reason. and i do not wish to think that is the case, it might make me cry.

Until Somebody creates a Database that would prevent Entry of an incorrect Postal Code of a City of a specific Province/State and
Country, there is no Way to detect Errors & Mistakes. If you meet all her Mail Settings, and your Mail still won't go through, e-mail any of the Moderators to send an E-Mail on your behalf, informing that User you wish to make contact.

In another thread about "things to consider" I suggested that the "City" field not be one that is typed in, or, if it is, at least if the "official" city for the postal code and the user-entered city do not agree, there is some indicator of "city and postal code do not agree". It's completely doable from a programming perspective, and would be a way to detect errors and mistakes (as you stated above as being impossible).

I actually think it happens a lot that people put a postal code that is not consistent with the city they entered.

Have a moderator email her on my behalf? Isn't that a bit too much like highschool? "Hi, my friend wants me to tell you that he thinks you look hot."

umm could I look anymore like a dweeb? LOL

Thanks but I am not that desperate yet... I was more concerned that there was a sustem error. thank you for clearing up the mystery.

It's completely doable from a programming perspective, and would be a way to detect errors and mistakes (as you stated above as being impossible).

I can't comment on the Programming Aspect of it, but a Country can often have the same City Name for 3 - 5 States. That would have to be entered into a Database that would be subject to Query by the entered Postal Code. I have no Idea what it takes to do that for every City in every Country in the World. I'd imagine another Database would need to be created, or the existing one(s) modified/revamped.

I actually think it happens a lot that people put a postal code that is not consistent with the city they entered.

And then there may be dozens of Postal Codes that fit 1 Bill, even overlapping into other Zones, never Mind Jurisdictions which don't have standardized Codes at all.

The Admin states it works on Postal Codes exclusively, but have found numerous Instances where the City is polled as well, and in some Instances only searchable by entering City/Town Details.

Have a moderator email her on my behalf? Isn't that a bit too much like highschool? "Hi, my friend wants me to tell you that he thinks you look hot."

The Admin coded this Mail System, fire your Bullets that Way. Moderators simply help you with the extant working Framework.

I am having a new issue with my sent mail folder. When I do the a mass email for an event it will show 30 plus pages of messages with 20 per page but as you start deleting the pages it starts to show only 12 and then 8 or something like that but if you skip to the last page it will show 20 per page again. And now when I send 1 message it will bring up 8 to 30 pages of messages that weren't showing. Something is screwed up with the sent mail folder for sure.

Right now I have 1 message in my sent mail folder. I show 16 pages of sent messages and on 15 of those pages it shows just the same 1 sent message and the 16th page is empty? Any ideas of what is wrong here?

  • Either his Profile was deleted by the Admin or the System.

  • He E-Mail Blocked you, then deleted his Profile himself.

  • He E-Mail Blocked you, then hid his Profile.

  • Recent User Name Change in Edit Registration

  • If you remember the first part of his User Name, try a User Search and see what you can come up with. Search the First Contact History as well.

I just recently found this out.

Yes, and you get to make them in your Mail Settings as to who can and cannot contact you. View it as a User Requested Feature and you are on the right Track ... / Ticketoride

Looking back along this thread, I see that the same problem has been tossed about for two-and-a-half years and there's still no solution. I've just encountered it tonight for the first time - I wrote a message, clicked "Send Message", saw the response, "Message Sent" but when I checked "Sent Messages" to print off a file copy, it wasn't there. I've sent two others to different users earlier in the day without difficulty. It is frustrating when you don't know if there's some technical glitch or if you've unwittingly used a secret sequence of words that has triggered an alarm somewhere on a computerised watchdog.
The ones that go smoothly appear in "Sent Messages" almost instantaneously so that the Management vetting process is very quick. Why not delay the appearance of "Message Sent" for a few seconds until it really has beeen passed and sent? Then if it isn't going to be sent, the Feedback Message could actually say that, and give a reason. The intending sender could then make any required modifications while his/her draft message is still in front of him. If you're a slow, one-finger typist like me, you don't feel like spending another half-hour doing a repeat message from memory, and still with no guarantee that you'll be any more successful on the second try.

I see that the same problem has been tossed about for two-and-a-half years and there's still no solution.

Because there is no Problem, just some People asserting there is. Usually they don't actually read and investigate the possible Reasons we indicate. In some Instances, if you had read this Thread, its not possible to find out why your Mail won't go through, and you'll just have to settle for that Answer. Suffice to say, if your Mail won't go, you have been restricted for one or more Reasons, so move on and contact Someone else.

Then if it isn't going to be sent, the Feedback Message could actually say that, and give a reason. The intending sender could then make any required modifications while his/her draft message is still in front of him.

No Specifics would be indicated so as not to assist Scammers to test the Securities of the Mail System.

If you're a slow, one-finger typist like me, you don't feel like spending another half-hour doing a repeat message from memory, and still with no guarantee that you'll be any more successful on the second try.

Type up in a Text Editor, then paste over into your Message.

I'm having the exact same problem. It's only for this one person I'd really like to contact. When I type in an original email and send, it tells me that message was sent, but when I check my sent messages, it never shows up.

I've check mail settings and everything seems to be fine, but the email won't go through.

It is definately a problem, because if there was a restriction in place, then I would get an error saying that I cannot contact this user, but instead it is telling me that the message has been sent when really it hasn't.

Is there anything else to try here? Will someone look into it?

Yes thank you in advance as well!
