| Sent messages but not showing up in the sent message area Posted: 1/31/2007 11:57:36 PM | | I now seen this happen multiple times since then. I tried today and 1 message actually sent while 2 others did not. Again, I fit all of the criteria. So, we have a definite system bug. I assume it won't ever get fixed because no one on the support side even admits that there is a bug. | |

| Sent messages but not showing up in the sent message area Posted: 2/3/2007 8:19:36 PM | I've been having this problem as well. So far with two people.
I've gone through and made sure I wasn't doing any of the restrictions, I'm not getting any errors when I send the message, other than it saying that it's been sent.
I've also tried sending shorter messages and on different days. No go.

| Sent messages but not showing up in the sent message area Posted: 2/17/2007 6:26:11 AM | hey.. I read the thread and the FAQ on this issue and just wanted to post mine.
I tried emailing 2 people today, and I wrote long messages for both. Not the same, but with some passages the same (Like I copy and pasted the blurp I wrote about myself into each, but then the 2nd half of each message was tailored to the person I was sending too).
The character counters are under 2200 for both of them (that's including spaces), and they don't have any criteria that disqualifies me from contacting them, that I can see at least!
If someone could assist me with this issue I am having, it would be greatly appreciated.
*edit add-on*, after I send the message it gives me that generic "Message Sent" message that appears, its just that when I go into my sent box, the message doesn't show up.

| Sent messages but not showing up in the sent message area Posted: 2/17/2007 11:02:35 AM | Hey late,
I did what you said. Sent both messages I sent, to you, exactly as I had tried to them (even included my photo as an attachment.. haha, don't take it personally!!), and with that subject line in place (minus quotations).
It did the same thing, said message sent and then didn't show up in my sent box.
Thanks for your response,

| Sent messages but not showing up in the sent message area Posted: 2/17/2007 12:12:39 PM | Okay, now send this first:
THEN, send the original message, something in the original message is blocking "first contacts".
|
| Sent messages but not showing up in the sent message area Posted: 2/18/2007 6:40:08 AM | Hey!
I sent you that unique message followed up by me sending you the original message. Low and behold, it now registers in my outbox as sent!
Does this mean I can send the original message to the intended destination now? Or do I have to sent that unique message to them first in order for my "main" message to go through.
I am awaiting further instruction.
Thanks a bunch,

| FAQ - Emails/Messages - Sent but not showing up in the sent message area Posted: 2/24/2007 3:50:39 PM | I also ran into the email filter a few times, it's quite frustrating.
Once I tinkered with the email until it went through. Replaced words like "cheap", "free", "stupid" - no help. What was the culprit? The word "ugly". I replaced it by "ug1y" (the other words reverted back to their originals) and it worked. Give me a break! I didn't use the word as insult, and no other word would have worked in the context I used it in. Can you say overzealous?
Now, I have a new problem and this time I can't figure it out. Let's go throught the FAQ at http://forums.plentyoffish.com/datingposts5571514.aspx step by step:
More than (4) Four Duplicate E-Mails sent per Day. I never ever send duplicate emails. I tailor each and every one to the person I'm writing to.
More than 40 new Contacts e-mailed per Day. It was the first person I emailed today. And given [above], my max email count per day is about 5.
Do not use Banking Terms, such as "Account", "Bank", "Transfer", or anything else that could reasonably be expected to catch the Eye of the Site's Spam/Scam Filter. This is the most likely candidate to catch my email, so judge for yourself: Subject: "Hsin nian kuai le" Body: "You're not a good match for me, as I'm not looking for anything long-term. But I liked your smile, the Democrat thing, the scuba diving, and ... Taiwan. So have a happy new year - may the pig treat you well! Good luck with your search!"
I tried replacing "pig" by "boar" but it still doesn't go through. And "pig" here refers to the Lunar Year of the Pig of course, it's not an insult. What else could trigger the filter?
Do not use the ---> @ symbol in your e-mails. See above, no @.
Do not send Spam Links. See above, no links.
Your E-Mail is too long, exceeding approx. 7,800 Characters. See above, 253 characters incl. subject.
That User has other Contact Restrictions per their Mail Settings Her restrictions are: Must not be looking for Other Relationship Must not be looking for Intimate Encounter None of this applies to me.
You have selected "Dating" in your Mail Settings and e-mailed another User with the very same Setting. My setting s are: Looking for: Hang Out Mail: Must not be looking for Talk/E-mail
You have made Reply to an existing E-Mail in your Inbox, but changed the Recipient in the To: Field of a User who has his/her Profile hidden, and does not have you on his/her Favourites List. No, this was a first contact and I just clicked on the Contact Now button on the bottom of her profile.
The Site's System Filter has blocked you from e-mailing anyone who has set their Mail Settings to block those who have previously messaged others for Sex or Intimate Encounters. She doesn't have that restriction, see above.
That User may have E-Mail Blocked you. Extremely unlikely, she never had contact with me before.
That User's Profile may have been deleted. No, it's still there.
User/Execution Error. If there's anything I'm doing wrong, please explain!
I don't care all too much if this msg goes through as you can probably tell from reading it, but I'd like to understand how this system works to make my life easier.
In either case, as many others have pointed out, showing me a fat "Message Sent!" when it hasn't is just wrong.

| FAQ - Emails/Messages - Sent but not showing up in the sent message area Posted: 3/14/2007 11:05:07 AM | With "test" in the subject field, send the following to my account:
If it gets through, it means that you are using words or symbols in your first contacts that are triggering first-contact filters (in place because of the idiots who use the internet to be a PITA).

| FAQ - Emails/Messages - Sent but not showing up in the sent message area Posted: 3/20/2007 8:51:33 PM | Hmmmm I just had one email I tried sending 4x, no go on any attempt. No restrictions on the intended user's profile, no obvious reasons why I couldn't send it.
It had the word sex in it, not that I was asking a user for that, but describing a past relationship. I changed that word for intimacy, and it sent it.
Would have been nice if I had a clue what the problem might have been, instead of guessing at it until it worked.

| FAQ - Emails/Messages - Sent but not showing up in the sent message area Posted: 3/24/2007 12:18:04 PM | Aaahh. Thanks xy13.
I've been sending messages to certain woman followed by 'message sent' and nothing appearing in the sent box. Message 11 did not satisfy what was going on.
HOWEVER, I have, I think, said in these messages
"..... if you don't think I'm too ugly, perhaps I'll hear from you".
Perfectly innocent isn't it!; but if the message is not being sent because of the word "ugly" then perhaps POF better supply a list of non-profanity words which cannot be used. Can a moderator confirm that there is a list of words that can't be used (other than swear words, which are obviously blocked)?
If so then I call for POF to supply this list or a reason for a message NOT going through instead of a 'Message Sent' in such cases. In my case, "you have used an inappropriate word - ugly" would have solved the problem there and then.
If this list exists, I hope it's not too long as such political correctness, while well-meaning, is damaging the thing that POF is trying to promote.

Can a moderator confirm that there is a list of words that can't be used
nope - the site cannot confirm such items, nor would the site want to tip off the scammers and spammers either as a lot of first contact emails are sent by such users, and this is why the system sends "Message Sent" back to the user. It lulls them into a false sense of a "mission accomplished" hit and run, as they don't actually care to look at their Sent Box.
Scammers/Spammers usually have certain scripts they like to use that are really not indicative of content for a first contact on a dating site and filters have been devised to trap the more commonly used ones.
As well, some less than functional idiots, also like to send abusive first contact emails and also have certain phrases and words they like to use, which really shouldn't be part of a first contact email, and filters, have also been set up for these.
In any event, if we did or did not know - any anti scam, spam or idiot measures won't be revealed as it defeats the purpose.
Given that the site, pretty much runs itself on auto pilot, the site has a fairly, if not excellent record of removing Scam and Spammers from the site, and your inbox should be thanking that fact.

| FAQ - Emails/Messages - Sent but not showing up in the sent message area Posted: 4/3/2007 11:01:08 AM | | I have just tried to contact two separate women in the last 24 hrs and both messages have failed to show up in my sent box. I have read through the FAQ and this whole thread and there is no reason the messages should not have gone through. It seems to be another example of the ongoing issue with messages not being sent for no good reason. In both cases it is a first contact situation so they have no reason to block me. I meet their requirements and tried sending a brief test email after the first one failed but that didn't go through either. | |

Is their profile still there?
Have they blocked you?
This may be a topic for another thread but if they block you shouldn't they disappear from your view of the system. I understand this may not be perfect with the forums. but still if someone blocked me I assume they would vanish from my searches and my favorites. I assume the same for hiding and being deleted.
If this is not the case it's just OOB stalker bait.

| Sending messages but not showing up in the sent message area Posted: 4/19/2007 7:53:53 PM | Regardless of the reason, I'm going to repeat my gripe about this:
If the message was not actually sent, the system should NOT respond with the "sent message" page.
We shouldn't have to actually check our "messages sent" list to see if the message is actually there and was transmitted to the recipient's mailbox. I don't care if a message was blocked - why it was blocked (we'll figure that out), but the system should not be lying to us about it.

| FAQ - Emails/Messages - Sent but not showing up in the sent message area Posted: 5/2/2007 7:24:24 AM | I've had a pile of messages that tell me they've been sent as well, but they have not. A bit of a pain to be sure, when you take the time to put your thoughts together, and then the system throws it away. Very frustrating. None of my messages violated any of the "rules"... and even if they did, the system should have stopped me from messaging them in the first place right?
From the number of people pointing this out as an issue... perhaps this could be taken seriously as an issue?
Nice site... but if one is often frustrated by it's throwing away of one's time... makes one a bit less inclined to be enthused about it.
