I've found that the critical element is timing. Spanking seems to be more desired right before they're in the throes of orgasm. You know it's coming when their pupils are practically taking up their entire eyes and their nipples change color, and your groin (and the sheets) are soaking. There's a whole bunch of stuff that happens to let you know, and that's when women tend to love an increase in aggression to help bring them over the top.

It's abuse if it is non-consensual. If it is consensual, I don't see it as abuse.
There are different motivations for enjoying spanking. Some enjoy the mental aspects of a power exchange. Some enjoy the physical sensation and the endorphin rush.
