Because they are insecure
I don't think this is true for all men. Some lie about their age just to get more prospects. Unfortuneatly they are usually shooting themselves in the foot when they lie. | |

LOL, I am 61 years old, and could run rings around lotsa guys younger than me... . BUT, I drive a HOT Street Rod like an 18 year old kid, so does that make me Um... lemme see here .. cross out the 6 make it 5 add 10 to the other side subtract.. Hmmmmm..... ah yes.. 43 YEARS OLD in spirit and not BOD????  | |

Posted: 7/14/2006 9:06:50 PM | I hate that. Lying about age ~~ number one deal breaker for me. It's impossible to shed years off a body, no matter how young at heart, physically fit, intellectually young, etc. I've heard all the excuses. It happened to me several times, the biggest "fudge" was 14 years. OH HELL NO. Not an option. If someone is lying about their age, they're lying about other things. Why start something prefaced on a lie? I just don't get it.  | |

Posted: 7/14/2006 9:25:23 PM | I believe that this works both ways..Why people feel the need to lie about their age I don't understand. I have never felt the need to lie about age..Am 51 will be 52 in September...Women I always heard felt more need to lie. I am a woman who is proud of her age.

Posted: 7/15/2006 12:54:48 AM | The same reason they lie about their weight ... have you ever seen the guts on some of those guys who put down that they are "average" weight. I don't mean to say that the ladies aren't doing the same thing.
I fail to see what good it does anyone to lie about anything. For many ... I for one ... it's an instant deal breaker. You get caught lying about that little stuff ... you're out. Chances are that if they're lying about stuff like that ... there's a lot more they're lying about too that isn't so obvious.
I tell the truth on my profile ... my pictures truly depict me ... and I can provide names of men who have met me in person who will vouch for it. Dating is difficult enough without having to add lying to the mix.

Posted: 7/15/2006 10:16:15 AM | Interestingly, I found out a woman I was dating lied about her age... not to me, but on her driver's license, it stated that she was 12 years younger. I knew how old she was. I didn't really think men lied about their age, unless they like older women and want to be instantly "more mature."
Men wonder why women lie about their age also. Bad part is that when an older woman says she's younger in order to date younger men, she'll miss the ones who prefer her real age and won't date the "younger" woman.

The only reason I would lie about my weight is because when people see me, they don't believe I'm that heavy. Most guess I'm 30 - 40 pounds lighter. I'm not even a big guy. I have a bit of a tummy, but my weight is mostly from muscle because I used to be a body builder and I drink a lot of water. Muscle is heavier especially if properly hydrated, but many people hear someone's weight and presume a body type before even seeing them.
As for my age, when I meet someone, I let them tell me how old I am.... I usually lose 7 - 10 years on a date by being whatever they see. (I'm just kidding... I do fess up after they guess... that's the only compliment I've ever needed...lol) | |

Posted: 7/15/2006 10:34:52 AM | I posted my correct age, but think that when women go "fishing", I might get excluded, beyond their range. If one would take the time to read and or speak with me, there could be suprises. I find, in general, women in my age bracket are not interested in the same things. I have always dated younger, been happy and fortunate with the previous matches. That might be subjective, as I am still searching, but I see scads of women thru this site that are gorgeous, from all over the US/CAN, that I wish there was the opportunity for conversation. I am just not ready to stop having FUN!!  !!
I am, we are or could be, A Devil, An Angel, and A Teacher. I still am/willing to be active in all catagories!!---

I was talking about men who lie about their weight by understating their true "body form" as in ... a huge droopy "gut" but put down that they are "average". There's nothing "average" about that! Sorry, but if you can't see your shoes when you look down without bending over ... that's just not "average".
I know that muscle weighs more than fat. When I tell people how much I weigh they can't believe it either. But I'm a very active person, do not work out ... however dance a lot so my legs are well-formed and muscular. I assume that's where I carry a lot of hidden weight.
The point I was making is that there is a lot of lying and misrepresentation going on out there ... both men and women do it. It causes a lot of hard feelings and people get disappointed and frustrated having to deal with it.
Actually, I don't consider it a lie when a man puts down that he has an "average" body but displays "fat" pictures ... that's not a lie, that's just him telling me that he has an unrealistic view of himself.
The same thing goes for height ... most men have no idea how tall they really are ... they "guess"timate it and most award themselves with at least 2" more than they really are. As a result, when I see a profile of a man who has asked me out, I generally look for a man who is at least two inches shorter with a similar face ... I've never been wrong!
At this point ... I don't consider them lying about that any more. I worked in a clinic a while back where part of my job was to weigh and measure each patient as they came in. I did my own little experiment with it by asking each gentleman before weighing and measuring them how much they thought they weighed and how tall they thought they were.
Every single man ... without exception ... under-estimated their weight and over-estimated their height. Whereas the ladies ... without exception ... were always correct within a few pounds of their actual weight and within 1/4 inch of their actual height.
So now I just accept that men just don't know a thing about weights and measures and try to do my own calculations based on what I see in a profile picture. No longer a problem with me.
However, what is a problem is "outright" lying and that's where the age thing comes into play. We all know how old we are ... that's not rocket science ... so just be truthful. No one wants to start a potential relationship based on lies.

Cotter: Some days your posts just make my day. Throughout this entire post, all I could think of was that old joke about men and measurements (ie: That is NOT 6 inches.) Sorry ~ it's just rolling over and over in my head.
Your post made me realize something. It's a sad day when we admit that we show up for a meeting and add weight and deduct height in order to recognize who were are meeting. And I have NO doubt, it's just as frustrating for the guys. 6 years ago when I first online dated, it wasn't like this. I met people who were exactly what they professed to be. I realize I am now in an entirely different age bracket, but it's just simply ridiculous. I will never forget the man that told me he was athletic and showed up with bigger breasts than mine (they guy needed a manzierre!!) He was a nice guy ~~ but he lied to me. He not only lied about his weight, but ~~ he lied about being in the gym each day, he lied about his eating habits and lifestyle, energy level, etc. One lie leads to others. It's just not a good thing. | |

contact them. ( Not on this site, of course!), than if I told the truth. Women say that they require honesty in a man, but what they really want is a believable fantasy, a fairy tale. Look at all this "Prince Charming" and "knight in shining armor" crap. Well, the "knight" got stuck in traffic and his horse overheated, and the "prince" is with another prince, playing around with high heels. I'm right here, right now, whiskey dents, faded paint job, and all; 58, going on 48, but a lot smarter than I was then! | |

This is so all the pretty people can live in their own little world, and serve as "role models" for those of us with little character. Just ask to see a Driver's License on the first date.........if age concerns you that much. After 21, any age goes--as long as there's a connection. I guess it would matter if you were into guys who were about to die soon and him saying he was 10 years younger makes you NOT want to pursue the relationship.......teehee. | |
