Posted: 2/15/2008 9:21:20 PM | I met one guy who actually did look 10 years younger than he was so I didn't question it when he claimed to be 7 years younger than his true age. He mentioned his true age one day and when I asked him about the age listed on his profile he said, Oh, a friend of mine has my password and changed the age as a joke. Yeah...right.
It doesn't really matter what age the guy lists. If he looks and acts like an old man then he IS an old man whether his profile and/or drivers license say he is or not. I do think some of the guys are delusional. When they claim to be forty five when they look like their 70 you've got to wonder who they think their kidding!  | |

Posted: 2/16/2008 8:35:51 AM | For the same reason some women wear pertend fingernail, hair weaves, padded bras, restrictive undergarments to keep the tummy in and the hips from jiggling or posting old photos or wearing heavy makeup and eye linner or flattering garments that hid and conceal.
They wish to be considered and in contention for your attention ~ as unworthy as you maybe of it.
Them sorry ~ no good ~ lying sons of a buck!

Some do it stupidly because the age they give in the narrative of their profile is lower than the one reported in the box above it. LADIES, THAT HAPPENS BECAUSE YOU PUT IN THE CORRECT BIRTH DATE WHEN YOU SIGN UP FOR PoF AND LIE IN THE NARRATIVE! | |

Some do it stupidly because the age they give in the narrative of their profile is lower than the one reported in the box above it.
You're not taking into consideration that they may have had a birthday since they wrote their profile. Then the age above updates, but it doesn't automatically correct what she/he writes. | |

Just like applying for a job, writing on a resume a different birth year might get you that job. Putting your true age tells the employer that you are closer to retirement than he would like you to be. With a job, you told a lie to get a paycheck and if your work is exemplary no one is the wiser but your hair colorist of course you lied to have an income and avoid ageism. To lie about your age on a profile is because of ageism again. Its hard to admit that you think young but are almost ready for a retirement home. Some people are too impatient, to find the actual you, under your visual facade, so you lie about your age to get your foot in the door. The person that lies could be hurting some people but not everyone and if the lie backfires then its just another hint that you are too old and should stop lying and stop looking for things you can't have anymore | |

I am so not into lies, but that is wrong about how much time you have left. My mom lost her husband who was 11 years younger than she is 4 years ago. My mom might not be going strong at 70, but she still lives by herself, has friends, does things, etc. I have a friend who has a 90 year old grandmother who is still independent. Age does equate healthy lifestyle, heredity, etc. And we all know we could die from a car accident etc. before we age.
Again, I am not into the lies, but really don't agree that it is any indication of how many years you have left. I will continue to try to enjoy my ride, I know I only get one. | |

I'm old as dirt ~ I was a busboy at the "Last Supper" ~ Hey ! thats what the pic's are for ~ and the two needs to match up! and if they don't you've got a legit complaint. ~ thing is with profiles , they don"t do halfs numbers ~ If you have limited your profile to say 29 to 36 ~ 37 can't get in ~ even if he looks and carries himself of a 30 ys old. I had a lady pull an old photo swap-a-rama on me once ~ wasn't no big deal, she was still pretty ~ but older. ~ She said she wasn't getting much mail until she used the pic in question. ~ So in one respect, it worked for her. I recently went on a date with someone who told me they lied about their age. They said they were 4 years younger. "How do I know he's not looking for someone older? " That doesn't make any sense what-so-ever. Besides, it is a little obvious when his age parameters are set to ages significantly lower than his own age. i.e: he is really 42 (said he was 38) but his parameters are set to 30 and 38. That's how I know! I am not saying he is a bad person at all.... very unsure of himself....yes.... inflated ego...yes.....
but if you are standing on grounds of dishonesty, lies and deceit ~ you ladies wrote the book

James that reasoning is only accurate if you are talking about men. Women live longer than men so if we were going to choose partners based on how much time we have left, women would have to choose a man 10 years younger. I have practiced medicine for 18 years and in all that time the vast majority of instances where I have seen a man taking care of his wife in their later years were in the presence of Alzeheimers, or cancer. All other causes of morbidity and mortality occure at a much earlier age in men than in women. So women almost always are the care takers of their husbands in later years. Thats something for you guys who are afraid of marriage to consider! | |

Just playing with you! ~ kiddo ~ people been lying and teasing ~ from the beginning of time ~ Nothing new under the sun ~ I'm very use to it by now ~ and consider it comic relief. ~ It's to laugh about ! ~
You watch, Signfield or Friends ~ and laugh ~ but when it becomes your reality and you are the one having to deal with it ~~ it's not very funny anymore????????????
Take a chill pill ~ it's just the way it is and you won't change it getting all excited and talking it up. ~ people been deceiving and tell shades of the truth since they learn to speak.
When you get to a point that you see through all the ~ crap ~ quit taking yourself so serious ~ life can be very entertaining and a bunch of fun
That said, it's ~ "tit for tat" and the ladies take backseat to no one. ~
While I don't encouage this behavior ~ I don't have too ~ It's seems to do quite well without my involment ~ I am resposible for just me ~ I chose to be amused and enjoy the show.

I notice it particularly in cultures that are harshly patriarchal, but I think all cultures taught women from a very early age that if you want something, and you can't get it yourself, here's how you can get a man to give it to you.
Gali-leo, I also agree with you - men can be lying and deceitful creatures - I just see their approach as more direct, even if there are several layers to the subterfuge, because our culture endorses the notion of a man going after what he wants. Women have had to be more subtle.
Bottome line is some people will stop at nothing to get what they want. | |

Posted: 4/25/2009 1:49:50 AM | I met a guy on POF that said he was 57 (my age then). He is a born again Christian. When we met he told me he was really 67. It blew me away! Since he was preaching god's word all over the place I asked him what god would think about lying. He said we needed to read the bible together. Uh, no thanks. What a turn off. When I said it was done (after 2 dates) he said "what? No overnights?" Sheesh! He also got angry and said I don't kiss with my mouth open! I did not want to kiss him so I kept my mouth shut.
I then saw his profile and it still said 57 . BUT...someone I would have been very interested in added me to his favorites. It didn't appear there. I tried to email him but got a message that said I was older than his criteria. By a year. I tried to change my age so I could contact him but the system wouldn't let me.
I assume he got the same message when he tried twice to add me to his faves. I think he is allowed to edit his criteria and hoped he would but no luck there. A lost fish.
But back to the original guy...he lied, he can't change his age in the system so he is faced with 'fessing up his lie to each new date. If he gets any. Lying just does not pay. | |

Sometimes in my searches I can see a guy that is 47 and a guy that is 56 and both look about the same in terms of their ages. More often there is a huge difference in appearance where the older guys looks significantly older. What is amazing is how old some 47 year olds look. We age at different rates...genetics, sun, drinking, hard living, attitude, fitness...all play a part. And then of course...some are lying and deluding only themselves.  | |

Posted: 7/21/2009 8:16:59 AM | Thankfully I don't seem to be at the age where that happens a lot. Everyone I've ever met looks like their pic, and I assume their age is correct, no major discrepancies. Remember, necks and hands are a dead giveaway.
Oh ya. I'm 39, for the first time, and surprise, I'll be 40 next year, not 39 again
