Also - I have to say - there is no contest. I quit competing a loooonnnnng time ago - back in my early twenties, when I was smart enough to realize that there is ALWAYS someone thinner, firmer, prettier, more athletic, yada yada.
 I've stated this for years. I have yet to see/meet or otherwise encounter a woman that I felt the need to compete with. I've known most of my adult life that physical appearance is not only subjective, but is not all encompassing. There will always be someone prettier than me, taller, thinner, etc., BUT ~ there will never be someone just like me. If the man in my life wants someone to compete over him ~ he's free to find the nearest exit. It won't happen with me. Nor would I want or expect him to compete for my attention/affection. The only time I was forced into that situation ~ he was older than me.  And, I found the nearest exit!!  | |

Posted: 1/17/2007 5:37:44 PM | i have had this experience too. not only online, but when i go out i am only approached by men in thier twneties or early thirties. it sort of makes me sad. i do look a bit younger than i am because i am petite and dress youthfully, but sheeeshh! i want to date men who are my age or older! i am not into little boys! lol!
one of my male friends told me that in order for me to get men who are my age or older i needed to dress like an older woman, etc. he was of the opnion that men in my own age bracket didn't approach me because i looked too young for them...loL!
guys..opinions please?

I think your looking at this issue with the wrong perspective, all together.
By asking if 'they' think your desperate because your 54, you are asuming 'they' too are desperate being in their 20's and 30's.
Why would it up-set you that guys in their 20's and 30's still find you sexualy apealing? That only means that your not condemned with the limiting choice of men 54+ in terms of finding a partner.
Why worry your-self about why exactly they wish to be intimate with-you? Sex and dating and even relationships are so intermingled, I don't think they can be easily disected and analysed as their own entities.
Are you not comforted that society has not discarded you based on your age? The world is open to you, all you have to recognize is which person would be preferable in terms of serious commitment.
The truth is where all adults, do we really need yet another criteria to decrease more of our choices in finding love and happiness? Why can't people just ignore the age thing altogther and go on the sole criteria of compatibility of two peoples?
Aside from that, it takes all kinds to make the world revolve, I think statisticaly you simply cannot rule out the possibility that just maybe there are a few 20 and 30 year-olds on the same page as you.

The older ladies are desperate for flattery.
The younger guys are desperate for a shag, see older women in the porn they surf and think they are easy, sexier, a better conquest, or going to teach them to **** cos they are useless at learning themselves, or desperate to loose their virginity.
It is easier for guys including younger ones, to approach women on online dating sites.. many women don't discount the approaches online as much as they perhaps should. | |

I think a 35 year old woman automatically rejecting a man for being 10 years younger is ridiculous. Now he might be immature, rude or just a plain jerk. That's different, but judging someone solely by age is comparable to not dating someone for being a certain race or religion. | |
