Things You've Learned and Advice You'd Pass On Now That You're Over 40

Many things I've Learned over the years have stuck and have paid in dividends. Four here:

When a door closes, another will open. And usually that door closes for a reason-- live with it. Learn from it. Be excited about the next adventure. Move on.

Laugh. It warms the heart.

Learn to love that person looking back at you in the mirror each morning. Hey, that face is the only one that can make faces at you, with open-mouth full of toothpaste, and get away with it.

Learn something of value from all you meet.

Don't intentionally hurt anyone.

Watching old episodes of Outer Limits, Twilight Zone, and Star Trek or watching old movies like The Bride of Frankenstein or King Kong (my uncle had a projector and used to show them to us kids...these were the ones before 'talkies') makes me laugh, because they were so cheesy. But the great special effects and technology of today is rooted in those oldies and the things being accomplished now wouldn't be possible if those 'relics' hadn't been the testing ground.

After reading comments on a lot of other threads

I've learned...

Way too many POF names have the word Angel in them (as if!). But I guess no one would want to use the name, 'Slut Ho', would they?

Update: I just did a search (should have done it before I commented!) and there are several names containing slut. Wow...who'da thunk it???

music can sooth the savage beast, so they say, it can also pick u up and make u dance around with joy, so do everything to it, especially housework.

something i should have learned by now, and am holding out hope that i will learn it: just cause u want something, doesn't mean u should do it.

don't think this means i'm not smart! but i don't get this statement. and i can get very competitive, so i would like to understand it, cause that would probably help me out.

please explain

Before allowing something to upset you, ask yourself if this is even going to matter to you in 6 months?
Some of our funniest family stories were not funny when they occurred. Time really can change your perspective.

It's ok to be alone at times to sit quietly with yourself and rejuvenate. Sometimes it's necessary to withdraw from others temporarily in order to keep your sanity. It doesn't mean you're anti-social or withdrawing from society, it just means you need a break from all the nutcases around you.
(Of course, everything in moderation, my dears)

In the roar of the marketplace there is a self induced disconnect that leads to oblivion, a thoughtless mindset with mechanical gestures, creating the illusion of occupancy and meaning.
