I like Starbucks too. I don't care that it's overpriced, it's cheaper than a night at a bar. I'm not going to drink 1/2 a dozen coffees.

I'd probably be alone in wanting something in the South end of the city?

Well, I see about 15-16 peeps interested, so where and when?? (Wednesday is a bad night for me, dancing lessons!)

Belt line goes from east to west, and to find a place that could stand the din of that many PoFers may be the main challenge!!

Is there someplace that one person knows of that would be central, without being in the core and have enough FREE parking??

Otherwise, it would have to be north slightly or south slightly, and the seats in starbucks suck!! tho their coffee is overpriced, it is a good cup full, if they will serve you!! Last two times there had to wait 20 mins for a fresh brewed cup two times in one evening!!

Since there are more ladies showing interest, ladies choice for the first one in the New Year!! That way Senadin can relax a bit and just show up without a care in the world.

Ladies??..........

If you're paying $6, you're not drinking coffee. If you don't like what you're drinking, buy something else. Starbucks and every other coffee company serve the same thing and it's made the same way. Three species of coffee with hundreds of varieties from around the world roasted to the same standards. There will be differences in the custom blends and some of the same varieties will be roasted to different standards. However, if you drink Kenya Estate AA medium roast, it will be pretty much the same across the board.

Some standards can throw you off though. The "average" coffee is a medium roast Columbian [non-estate; beans from many fincas, mixed together]. The so-called Canadian [Tim Hortons] is a dark roast, probably Columbian. Americano, Continental, French and Italian roasts are also dark roasts. I'm not a fan of dark roasts in general, unless it's specific estates [Kenya AA for one]. Some estate beans have more specific flavor balances which I find to be more suitable to dark roasting. A non-estate is too average otherwise.

I wonder if there are any cafes amenable to 14 hour games of Axis and Allies

There is a Tim Hortons and a ...Coffee Time I think, on 16th east of 10th NW. 17th SW has a few places I'm sure. Lots downtown, though parking can be a challenge unless you're on transit.

You may know that McNally's Bookstore downtown has a restaurant on it's top level and it has live jazzy music on, I think Thursday, but for sure on Fridays and Saturdays ... it is over by 10:00 ... and it's a great place to have a more sedate happy hour ... with coffee ... If anyone wants to join me there sometime ... let me know ....

I thought that Centre or Memorial and Center was central...or maybe even downtown? From my last class on directions, 16th Avenue is 16 blocks or more from the Center of the city.

Moreover, there are a lot more places that might be further from the center but easier access due to transit or C-Train for people.

Just my two cents worth.

Happy New Year 2007 to one and all.

McNally's is an excellent choice, as is Chapters/Indigo/Starbucks combinations. I consider 16th north and 17th south to be reasonably central, both by distance and by the tendency to have a continous retail center spanning them. The LRT concept of "central" is good too. Kensington has many pubs, cafes and restaurants, all in walking distance of LRT and downtown. 16th and 17th are convenient by car, not by transit. Dalhousie, Rundle and Chinook LRTs are not central, but all have shopping, book stores, cafes and restaurants nearby. Overall, Kensington is the best bet, apart from right IN downtown.

Hi everyone! Here's wishing you all love, hope and blessings for 2007 as we see out 2006! Has anyone been to Inglewood to see if they have a larger setting for us POF'ers? Also, if anyone would like to do a daytime coffee meet, let me know and email me! Is January 2nd still a go in Kensinton? I'll keep watching for updates!

Ciao for now!

Carleen
