| Does Anyone Else Get Depressed On Or Around Their Birthday? Posted: 1/13/2007 9:26:48 PM | | i did this year - two days ago to be exact... i think this was the first year that I truly realized that it really is just another day. I think it was more because my family and friends weren't around to help me celebrate it. It didn't help that I turned an age that felt like such an in-between age... one of those weird numbers that just doesn't feel special (i'm odd, i know.. it's okay, i've grown to accept it :p ) | |

| Does Anyone Else Get Depressed On Or Around Their Birthday? Posted: 1/14/2007 5:40:29 AM | I used to get depressed over birthdays. I do not anymore. I was born on Halloween, LOL.
More years than not it was forgotten, people were too busy thinking of the holiday. When I was a child the birthday was put off until another day, as I came from a large family and all the siblings were busy getting ready for trick or treating.
As an adult most of my friends and myself also, were focused on our children and costumes and school parties and trick or treating, so no time for birthdays. I did have a few years where a party was thrown for me though, and that was nice.
Last year my two closest friends forgot the day, because they still have young children, but now my family remembers it , and my children also.
But it is just another day, I have had enough birthday celebrations in my lifetime, and want the day to just go by. I know I will have one every year, but that doesnt mean I have to share in a clebration with others. I will just spend them like any other day.

| Does Anyone Else Get Depressed On Or Around Their Birthday? Posted: 1/14/2007 8:13:36 AM | I always get excited about my birthday. Last September was no exception. That is until I went out and realized I had changed the diapers of many of the folk who were out and about. (I'm only 25.)
Eeek. Guess from now on I ought to do the close friends thing....

Posted: 1/14/2007 8:42:43 AM | | I still get very excited by my birthday, though I've been dumped on my birthday twice which was kind of rough. I'm still on the sunny side of 50 but I'm kind of looking forward to that one too in two years. The alternative is worse than getting old, at least for now. Yoga keeps me young.

That way you have a good time, and it takes your mind off being another year older, and you've had a great birthday, all rolled into one.

| Does Anyone Else Get Depressed On Or Around Their Birthday? Posted: 1/14/2007 8:13:58 PM | I've had the odd birthday where I've felt lonely or a bit sad (my first birthday alone living thousands of miles from home, etc), but depressed...never!
I had a blast turning 30. To me it was the start of a new decade - a new beginning of sorts.
Now, I'm just four months away from turning 40, and I'm absolutely psyched! It's another new decade in which I can put to use everything I've learned in my 30s. Perhaps it's because I can't believe I'm approaching the 40 mark, perhaps it's because I don't feel 40 (then again, what's 40 supposed to feel like? LOL). Either way, it's a birthday I'm truly looking forward to.
And OP...HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

| Does Anyone Else Get Depressed On Or Around Their Birthday? Posted: 1/14/2007 8:53:04 PM | Well I used to suffer from depression so I'm sure it's happened. If it wasn't my birthday it would have been something else.
I'm 31 and had a clerk ask me if I was 18 today while buying smokes. I was hating life too cause I got my license taken from me and no ID. Luckily I just had to say, "yes" in a deep of voice as I possibly could. Growing old isn't as bad when you look really young for your age.
Dunno why you would be depressed as a kid unless you got crappy presents. Or suffer with depression. Sounds like you do. I'm no doctor though. I don't even play one on your screen.

| Does Anyone Else Get Depressed On Or Around Their Birthday? Posted: 8/7/2007 12:56:39 PM | I´m having a pre-birthday depression right now... In August 13th, I will turn 28 and my condition has not been changed. Materially, nothing has been changed, I could say that I live the same way...But one thing hasn´t been changed: "I do not have a boyfriend"...Considering myself a family girl, but lonely at the majority of the time, this time I BEGGED to my parents and everybody to NOT SENDING ME PRESENTS... Right now, Im feeling like a dull and a looser...and I don´t know what to do... | |

''Birthdays are really good for you'' The more you have The longer you'll live
Very cute sentiment. Actually, I do get depressed only because most of us get spoiled growing up by family throwing a party for us every year that includes games, cake, presents and friends. It is sort of like celebrating Xmas or Thanksgiving or Halloween or Valentine's Day as a kid and not having the same blowout on that level as an adult. I think that might be the cause.
Usually though, my non-birthday life tends to be more exciting: within the past month I went treasure hunting in the Bahamas, went on a free cruise, got kissed by a celebrity (at least I think he was), received cards and gifts, underwent a shaman ceremony but my birthday isn't until January. My birthday tends to be humdrum since I almost always am working on that day but do get cards and gifts. One year I would love my birthday to be totally and utterly fantastic!

| Does Anyone Else Get Depressed On Or Around Their Birthday? Posted: 8/9/2007 5:02:40 AM | One way to look at birthdays is to rejoice and thank God that you are alive!! What's the alternative to getting older? Just look at the news..people are dying untimely, tragic deaths everyday. So for those of you who get depressed because you feel that "father time" is about to catch up with you. May I suggest that you go spend some time with small children. Their zest for life perhaps will rub off on you! The million questions that they ask will make you realize the getting old is a good thing, for with age comes wisdom!!! | |
