| How old is too old to still be living with your parents? Would you date someone that still did? Posted: 11/8/2006 5:00:38 AM | My cousin wasn't/isn't going to any school, he works construction I believe with his Dad, and he lives at home with his parents. Right now, he's 30. He moved out, got his own apartment with some friends when he was like 25, but moved back home 6mos. later. He does/did have a girlfriend last I knew, which was like four years ago.
No idea what he's doing right now though.

| How old is too old to still be living with your parents? Would you date someone that still did? Posted: 11/8/2006 5:04:34 AM | It totally depends on your maturity level. This one guy who goes to the same college as me, he's been there seven years, failed most of his classes, hasn't even passed the basic general ed. courses, and just lounges around the cafeteria trying to talk to girls, and then goes home to his parents house. The only job he has ever had was working in the campus center or somewhere in the college for less than one semester, I think his second or third year there. And he's 26 years old. He has like no friends, and is always sitting at the water polo people's table, and they let him b/c they feel sorry for him.
Like I said, my cousin, not in college, works in construction, lives with his parents, but also has a life, a girlfriend, etc. And has worked many jobs and has been on his own for 6mos at least.

Posted: 11/9/2006 1:10:38 PM | Curious as to: If your parent owns more than 3 homes, and you reside in one of them - paying electric/water/utilities - but parents pay for the mortgage - how is this viewed??
My older brother lives in one of my moms' "many" homes - she owns 5 of them!!! He's still single - a single dad...he's 35...
And....my mom owns a small condo down where i'm at - i reside there - i'm 28...however, i pay for the electric/water/utilities - is this bad???

| How old is too old to still be living with your parents? Would you date someone that still did? Posted: 11/18/2006 11:58:45 AM | Okay lets see
I was on my own 15 years
Now I am building my own 2 family house --yep its huge all seperate areas as well
As my mother had an accident 10 years ago I became a carer for her but more so helping financially and with her paperwork etc as she has limited english skills she couldnt work any more so i just do the real heavy lifting type of things for her
I dont look after her in a physical way at all - she is mobile etc and sends alot of time travelling and I dont really see her that much but as she is getting older I prefer to keep her closer for security and safety reasons
So if it makes me a loser because I have consideration for her and treat her with respect and want her close by rather then dumping her in some retirement vilage to only visit her once a month - yeh then I am a loser
Being eastern european heritage -- this is how its done in my culture - families stay together
I can say this though - with her being close by if I eventually marry and have kids it will be easier on myself and my wife as we will have assistance so to speak
That will relieve alot of pressures/demands out of the marriage and as such I believe lead to a more harmonious life together.
This is how the eastern europeans have done it for centuries -- seems to work well overseas in europe still also to this day -- why change it ?
Some women accept this understand it and well see it as a bonus ( how a man treats his mother and sisters etc canbe a good indication of how he will treat her)
Others see it as a big no-no --- those that do not want another woman in the vicinity so to speak because it will cause conflicts / power struggles
I dont know whats better but I feel more comfortable and at ease running one very large house designed as two - then running two seperate smaller ones at opposite sides of town where the expenditure would be double
Also homes like I am building with thier own apartments built in are becomming more and more valuable as prices of houseing increases - seems now more extended families are trying to stay together for financial reasons -- being young a couple just starting out on thier own with no assistance from anyone will have a hard time getting into thier own property even partments have shot throuh the roof in value where as before they were a cheaper alternative to be able to make a start

| How old is too old to still be living with your parents? Would you date someone that still did? Posted: 11/18/2006 1:58:06 PM | | Personally, for me, I"m 24 years old and I'm still living with my parents. However, not a day goes by where I talk about wanting to move out because its a subject I still talk about everyday with my friends. Just recently though, I've started to save up some money so I can eventually move out of the house and by doing that, I'm using some of the money I get from my paychecks each week so I can eventually make it happen. In fact, I just met a girl last Wednesday(not this past wednesday) at this college bar and we talked for a bit. She asked me if I was still living with my folks and I told her yes and she seemed very understanding about it. I then told her that I"m working towards saving up for it and she seemed pretty impressed by that. So as some of the other posters have said, living at home shouldn't be a problem for guys dating girls if they're working towards moving out eventually. After all, thats what I'm starting to do. And I"m working on being more independent so I don't have to rely on my parents all the time to get me places. | |

| How old is too old to still be living with your parents? Would you date someone that still did? Posted: 12/13/2006 6:35:13 PM | Like everyone else has said, it depends on your circumstance, I live with my parents because I just cannot afford to move out. Now a days everything is so damn expensive. I pay for rent, my own bills, I help out with groceries and up-keep in the house and pay for everything that I need for myself and my 2 dogs. My family is great, we (my brothers and I) have always been treated as equals and raised to be independent. We have our own privacy and don't expect our parents to take up our responsibilities. Anyway but if your gonna live at home then you should be in either School or have a job and take your own responsibilities like you were living on your own, treat your parents house like it would be your own. If your living at home no job not in school and are dependent on your parents for everything, then no I would not date someone like that, but if they lived at home and were in a situation like my own or had an ill parent/parents then its totally understandable and yes I would date them! Just depends on the situation. Anyway I could go on and on, but don't feel like it, Gave my 2 cents!
Take Care

If someone is older than 20 years old and they still live with a parent, then they are wrong. If they can't afford to live on their own, then they are losers. If they do not want to live on their own, then they are losers. It sounds like people need bigger paychecks.
Wow get a load of the maturity in this guy, losers, roflmao!!! Too funny!!! WOW some ppl!

| How old is too old to still be living with your parents? Would you date someone that still did? Posted: 12/14/2006 6:29:07 AM | It depends on the circumstances. Usually young people want their own lives and live on their own somewhere around between 21 to 25. Definately, unless there are problems or a disability or another situation..a person will be living on their own and becoming independent by then...
If someone is 30 and still living with their mother or parents that is not the usual thing...I would say there isn't much initiative towards independence and maturity...
Even animals in nature will kick their off-spring out of the nest when the time comes for them to live on their own...

| How old is too old to still be living with your parents? Would you date someone that still did? Posted: 12/14/2006 8:01:04 AM | So to be a good person we all must excel in life. So to not be a loser here is a timeline that must be strictly followed....any variations from this , unless of course ahead of time, means your pathetic and not dateable.
1.Must be head of the class in your preschool.
2. complete a minimum of 4 grades per year.
3. Grad from high scool by age 8.
4. complete college/university with a masters by age 11.
5. Be CEO of a Fortune 500 company by age 15.
6. able to retire and live a life of extreme wealthy by age 18.
9. Have flown on at least 1 space shuttle mission by age 19.
10. Set a new land speed record on the salt flats by age 20.
11. Have been married and divorced to at least 3 people, and have kids with all 3 by age 22.
12. Written your memoires and be published by age 23.
No variations or slacking folks !!!!!!!!!!!
Do you see how stupid timelines are for living life?
Everyone live your own....if you want to move out at age 12, have fun....if you want to move out at 70 good for you......likely the guy/gal that lives at home has qualities many of the rest of us do NOT possess.....so are they a bad person, or maybe just took a different path....but our equal.
If you are not a criminal, I personally do not care where you live. If your a crook, scumbag, ***hole, I want you living in a pine box burried 6 feet deep.

| How old is too old to still be living with your parents? Would you date someone that still did? Posted: 12/14/2006 8:25:44 AM | I moved out of my parent's house when I was 21. My children stayed with me until they were ready to stand on their own 2 feet. My son got a job right after high school and stayed with me until he was 20, and my daughter stayed with me until she was 23 as she was in college full-time and worked part-time, but both were welcome to stay as long as they needed to.
Would I date someone who was living with his parents? That depends if he had his own separate living quarters, like a duplex or suite, but if he shared the same living space, I don't think so. Everyone needs their privacy and own space. But if someone looked after his elderly parents, that would not be a big deal to me. But he should have his own job and not be mooching off them, no matter how wealthy they might be. Independence is a good thing.

| How old is too old to still be living with your parents? Would you date someone that still did? Posted: 12/14/2006 8:38:26 AM | I dunno, I was biting at the bit to leave the day I turned 18, so that's when I did it. And I never went back.
My parents were quite wealthy, but still I sent myself to college. I was pretty indpendent and didn't want anyone else dictating terms to me. But if your folks are sending you to college and grad school, you might still come home through the time your done. After that you should be living on your own.
And no, I would never date someone who lived with their parents unless it was a situation that the parent was old and sick and they were taking care of them. But because they were dependent on them for living space? Ugh, never.
I'd only date a man who was able to take care of himself.

| How old is too old to still be living with your parents? Would you date someone that still did? Posted: 12/15/2006 8:08:39 AM | Okay...here is how I feel about this topic:
How is it that many, many, many young people in their 20's and 30's can afford to live in an apartment and pay their own bills, but parents justify their kids never leaving by saying it'd be too expensive? It drives me nuts!
I moved out on my own when I was 17. I went to school and worked two full time jobs to pay my bills and help fund my education. I lived in a house, by myself, in a nice neighbourhood. I paid all of my bills ON_MY_OWN I had never left home before...not even for a vacation. However, somehow I just managed to do it. it's part of life, and as far as i'm concerned, any parent that delays that is doing so for their own benefit, not the benefit of their kids.
So here I am...21 years old. Full time job, immaculate credit, $500 away from having paid my student loans in full. Sometimes things get tough, but that's part of being an adult...you have to find a way to make it through the tough times on your own.
That being said, I do realize that there are some circumstances where the son or daughter MUST move in with parents...if a parent is ill, or something. Otherwise, it's sink or swim. A child (and that's what they are if they're living at home in their mid-late twenties or later) should not live at home because it's easier. What kind of life is that?! If you're any kind of parent you should be able to take pride in knowing that you raised a son or daughter who can fend for themselves in the real world, instead of worrying about if they can afford it.
So no, I would not date someone who lived at home. Regardless of the reason. I feel that i'd just end up holding their hand through their adult life, as their parents do...and I have much better things to do with my time.
Whew! That was my $.02 worth.

| How old is too old to still be living with your parents? Would you date someone that still did? Posted: 12/15/2006 4:15:08 PM | I'm 21 and I don't live with my mom. She lives with me, there's a total difference! See, my mom is single and we're both really close, not something that a lot of guys here would understand. I hook her up with guys sometimes, instead of the jerks that run into her. And wherever I move to, she usually tags along. No complaint because I could always use another person, mother or not, to help contribute with the monthly income. Like, we go split down the middle and that way, I have more money to save for MY reasons. But I would see by the age of 25, this can get a little old. | |

| How old is too old to still be living with your parents? Would you date someone that still did? Posted: 12/16/2006 2:53:26 PM | As others have said, it absolutely depends on the circumstances. When I met my ex fi, he lived with his parents, and at 19 was going to college and lived with them until a bit over a year ago... Thier house was 10 minutes from our college, and I spent most of my time there too.
My other boyfriend was 28 and lived at home. He had recently gotten a good job, but his previous job didn't pay enough to afford his own apartment, but the fact was he was working and he willing to work and was seeking to improve his life.
I like the fact that I got to meet his family, get to know them and thier values and to see how he treats them too.

| How old is too old to still be living with your parents? Would you date someone that still did? Posted: 12/16/2006 3:23:10 PM | I think it's shocking that grown men still live with their parents in their 20's but it would depend on the circumstances, but if it was the same as my brother's situation who did'nt want to leave home he was 29 before he left home & he loved the fact everything got done for him,he said it was like being in a hotel.I blame the mothers of these guys who never make them lift a finger & who turns them into lazy sods.So men in my brothers case who wants to be living with their parents would definitly put me off dating them. | |

| How old is too old to still be living with your parents? Would you date someone that still did? Posted: 12/16/2006 7:47:48 PM | I'm going with those who consider the individual circumstances and think the question is a little too broad to give a simple answer to. Hell I first lived on my own at 16 and going to college, but have moved back home with my Dad or with my Mom at several different times in my life since then. My Dad has since passed away but I would live with my Mom if there was some reason that would be helpful for either of us......
My decision would be based way more on who and what the person was like, not so much on what their living situation was. Of course part of that might be reflected by the situation but I wouldn't decide just on that. If I liked the person and enjoyed their company I wouldn't decide not to date them, just because they lived with one or both parents.
Don't most people base their dating decisions on a more complete picture of another person and not just on one or on only a few details? And how can one decide this is someone they'd date or not on only that detail? If a guy was an all around good guy would you really not want to date them only because they lived with a parent? Then, again, if you wouldn't date them for that reason only, it probably wasn't a good match to begin with and everyone still 'wins'.
