| True love defined Posted: 2/4/2006 7:21:21 AM | i have to agree with you dragon. i don't think love can be put into words that will describe exactly what each person feels about another.
as far as dogs though, we might be able to learn something from them as far as unconditional love goes. here's a few qoutes that y'all might find interesting.
" the one absolutely unselfish friend taht man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or threacherous, is his dog" -goerge graham vest
" ... the poor dog, in life the firmest friend, the first to welcome, foremost to defend" - lord byron
" he is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. you are his life, his love, his leader. he will be yours, faithful and true. to the last beat of his heart. you owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion." - unknown
" 'tis sweet to hear the watch-dog's honest bark bay deep-mouht'd welcome as we draw near home; 'tis sweet to know there is an eye will mark our coming, and look brighter when we come." - lord byron

I thought that sounds more like infactuation........

| True love defined Posted: 2/4/2006 10:12:05 AM | | let me try it this way.... "true" love...or "unconditional" love, as I prefer to call it, is not a feeling or an emotion, rather it is a decision and a commitment, that involves your feelings and emotions. It knows no boundaries, has no price tag, no conditions. | |

| True love defined Posted: 2/4/2006 10:50:43 AM | | to me true love is when the person leaves but you can still hear them, smell them and feel them. No matter how long they are gone you can always feel them. In my case he was gone for nine years and I felt him with me everyday. Even though we were not together in my heart and mind we always were. And now we are together every day and to me true love is something that just never goes away no matter what life throws at you. | |

| True love defined Posted: 2/4/2006 11:25:21 AM | | love to me is this simple; it is when you care more about someone else's well being than you do your own. | |

| True love defined Posted: 2/4/2006 1:35:40 PM | True Love is giving yourself to the other person.
You give your life to make a replication of her, in the form of children.
You give your life to raise those replications of her.
That's Love. You exist as a slave of devotion to her genetics.

| True love defined Posted: 2/4/2006 1:40:02 PM | | Well according to all these replies, I dont think Ive ever had anyone LOVE ME. LOL I feel that when you're in love, unconditionally, you give all you have without question. Its the most exciting, exhilarating feeling there is. A constant euphoria. A simplicity. You dont even HAVE to think about it. It just IS. No question, no worry. It just IS. | |

| True love defined Posted: 2/6/2006 3:01:38 PM | TQ, "A friend", huh? . Btw, thanks for introducing me to this site.
To add my 1.3 cents worth (inflation), I could get technical & quote my Psychology book's descriptions of love... three different types, if I remember correctly? But I don't have them memorized or handy, so I won't. I DO, however, remember that being willing to give your life for someone was ONE type.
As for what so many of us seem to want to define when we feel something 'warm & fuzzy' toward someone we're also (usually) physically attracted (we're not talking family members here), I agree w/ a previous post'r who said essentially that 'love' is defined by each person differently - in the eye of the beholder. I think that it's when we try to connect & form relationships w/ people who have different IDEALS for love that we run into issues. When one places expectations of love on another... and the other fails to live up to those expectations for proving love... trouble.
Hence, we're back to communication as key!

| True love defined Posted: 2/6/2006 4:19:01 PM | | True love is something that does not come along that often. Love that is just a romantic love can happen 10 times a day, and is probably enough to keep a dating relationship going, however it takes real love to keep a serious relationship or a marriage going. Even more so with a marriage. It takes all three kinds of love to keep a marriage together: Unconditional love or family love(Where you love them no matter what. The same kind of love you have for your children. No, it doesn't mean living with abuse. I am sure you would not live with a grown child that was abusing you ethier.), Friendship love: (the kind of love that says you will always be there to listen and to get them through whatever they are going through), and lastly romantic love(the lighter fun side of love). Of couse it only works if both feel these three loves for each other. | |

| True love defined Posted: 2/6/2006 4:55:49 PM | | you're right awaitingyu, but the undertone is the same in all cases. Love means guenuinly (sp) caring for and about the other person. Being there always, good times and bad, total commitment. They are someone you can always depend to be there when you are beautiful, happy, joyful, giddy, funny as well as when you are sick, sad, ****y, ugly...etc. Love is knowing that no matter what you say/do they will Always be there. | |

| True love defined Posted: 2/23/2006 10:53:35 AM | | You should watch "Patch Adams" and enjoy the famous poem he read to his girlfriend when she was murdered. I forgot what the poem was, but it was something like this: "I can feel you so close, that your hand on my chest is my hand. So close, that when you close your eyes, I fall asleep." It's really beautiful. | |
