If you have one cigarette once per year...you are a smoker. This isn't a 'shades of grey' issue. This is black and white. Period, end of story.
I do not share this view, and everyone has their own opinions...] to me.. the person who drinks a toast at christmas with everyone else...while during the year...except that once in a blue moon time...or at a wedding --->and at no other time, I would not consider those people "drinkers"
same with those who enjoy a good cigar once in a while
I don't consider myself a "drinker" although I occasionally have wine
"smoker" or "drinker" implies habitually...that is just my opinion.
like I said...these things are non issues to me.

Smoking Prefer not to say
almost like saying -- Pus seeping from boil on shaft of penis...prefer not to say
|
| Smoking Prefer not to say Posted: 8/15/2006 5:26:18 AM | Someone who has a cigar every now and then....and I mean less than one/month is not a smoker to me. The people who putt "occasionally" in their profile seem to be the people who are LIGHT smokers (ie up to 10/day) and that I do see as a smoker.
MY rule of thumb is to just block out the
smoking : yes, occasionally and prefer not to say

| Smoking Prefer not to say Posted: 8/16/2006 8:52:19 AM | The whole "prefer not to say" thing is bogus. If they prefer not to say then we must assume that it's true. But it's their right to prefer not to say and it may well not be true.
I think the classifications are wrong - for example drinking "socially", what is that? You only drink when other people are around. And if you have a beer alone while watching a ball game what's that? Alcoholic? I doubt it. Then the "often" category makes you seem like a drunk but maybe it's just that you go out a lot meet friends and have a couple of pints. Doesn't mean you're a drunk.

| Smoking Prefer not to say Posted: 8/29/2006 4:37:39 AM | | Perhaps these smokers have never had the experience seeing a loved one slowly drown because they have lung cancer and nothing can be done to prevent their lungs from filling up with fluid (wife). My father died of throat cancer and he said before he died that it was like having a sore throat, ear ache, headache and sinus problems all wrapped up in one and it wouldn't go away. I also lost two brothers-in-law and an uncle to cancer. The one thing they all had in common was smoking. From these experiences I wouldn't even think of dating a girl who smokes even if she was rich and a raving beauty. | |

| Smoking Prefer not to say Posted: 8/30/2006 9:08:05 AM | | LUNG CANCER . Now that IS a nasty. My mother, grandpa, great grandpa all have died from the nasty LUNG CANCER . All smoked........Mother very seldom. When I was a child she used to spray the house (old Civil war barracks) with Raid of HotShot till there was a cloud of spray houvering through out the house, breathing all that mess in two to three times a week. My Grandpa worked in orange groves continually mixing and spraying pesticides. Great grandpa chewed tobacco (don't know a lot of what cancer causing agents he was exposed to. The emphasis is on OTHER AGENTS. I do agree smoking don't help staying away from the NASTY, but I've known very old country folks that have smoked all their lives having no complications. WEAK GENES definately have an important part to play....... | |

| Smoking Prefer not to say Posted: 12/18/2006 11:55:46 AM | | Nicotine addicts have lost control of their lives, and they will lie to everyone beginning with lying to themselves. "Oh no no no I'm not addicted, I can quit any time." Yeah, right. They are too stupid to face the reality that they are harming themselves and annoying others. Their nerve endings are so seared by the tobacco smoke that they don't even know how bad they stink. They know full well that cigarette addiction is harming them but they are in denial and are lacking in the self-control it would take them to get clean. Smokers are losers, and anybody who would date one is a fool. The world will be better off when tobacco smoking is ended and cigarette smokers are history. | |

| Smoking Prefer not to say Posted: 12/18/2006 12:15:55 PM | This thread makes me want to put all my options to "prefer not to say" because it obviously ires the most people...
At least it will weed out the bitter people with issues.
|
| Smoking Prefer not to say Posted: 12/18/2006 1:08:02 PM | "prefer not to say" means "yes" to me...
it irks people because it's not an upfront response to a rather simple question.
The only thing it will weed out is people who want straight forward answers. I won't contact people who put prefer not to say about drug use, children, or drinking... and I'm not bitter. I just have no time for BS.
