| Hmmmm Posted: 2/8/2006 6:40:50 PM | Killed? I don't even know how to post yet, but man you are all so popular here, maybe it's not my profile, perhaps I need to be posting in the forums | |
|
| Hmmmm Posted: 2/8/2006 7:25:45 PM | ... how many times have you been the last to post on a thread? Unintentionally killin it. A Thread does not become deleted because of a single post.
The 2nd. link indicates many reasons why a thread would be deleted.

| Hmmmm Posted: 10/24/2009 10:47:27 AM | Well they sure were a lot better and much more light-hearted than everybody going after each others' throats like they do these days...everybody believing they are all Einsteins on every topic. Especially the catty older puma girls trying to sound sophistimicated and look twenty some odd years younger than they actually are...
What a sad place to have to try to prove anything about yourself. It used to be about fun!
I like killing things. G strings are mah favorite thing to kill. They fling marbles better than granny panties, further too.

Wow, that was quite a lot of bashing for someone that sees themselves as much more lighthearted, and less likely to go after someone's throat. Maybe you should lighten up, and be a little nicer yourself! Most people seem to just be on here to have fun and entertain each other?

| Hmmmm Posted: 10/24/2009 12:18:48 PM | ^^^ When you gotta email a stranger to see if their post was about you or not...methinks you're taking this all a bit too serious-like. Then following up with bashing them in the forum when they block you cause you're acting like a nutbar...well...that's just what I mean about going after each others' throats. Case in point.
This should be a thread killer.

| Hmmmm Posted: 10/24/2009 12:27:34 PM | yes, its true, I like communication and don't like to jump to conclusions And you are answering my inquiry this way, because you like public attention most likely It doesn't really matter at this point who you were bashing, and this is 'sorta serious-like' Its personal when you criticize someone for how they look and sound, even if it is only online. And so much easier to do.... when you don't expose yourself to ridicule, as in no picture?.....IMHO Cheap shot G-stringer. | |

No, actually I just don't like strangers that act like nutbars emailing me.

Well, I tried to be upfront with you, and deal with you directly in a friendly way, but you wouldn't allow that. No problem, I can see who I am dealing with now, and will remember that in future

| how many threads? Posted: 10/25/2009 2:27:00 AM | Taking this back to the original topic:
"have u killed by ur dumbass comments?" "Edit: for the newbs ... making some dumbass comment... and then u never hear from that thread again"
Yeah I've been the last to post on several threads but since we all know that I never make dumbass comments, I just figured that my words were so intelligent that there weren't any posters on here qualified enough to top what I had said.
I don't think my posts have caused the deletion of any threads, although my "Vag1nas are like self-cleaning ovens" thread a.k.a. "yogurt douche cooch momma" thread that we had so much fun with, doesn't show up in any archive searches so I'm not sure if it was deleted or is just buried waaay back. Not too long ago, someone discovered it by accident & revived it for a day or two but the newbies weren't as humoured by it as the long-term Poffers were, so it fizzled out.
As gstringer said, those were the days when the threads were more light-hearted. Posters didn't get all petty about witty comments made about them then report the posts to the mods & get fun threads deleted, unless it was a serious case of harassment or a flame war happening. There weren't as many catfights or dogfights on the threads. People weren't so quick to judge others harshly or click "delete this thread" just because they felt like it, so a lot of fun & nutty threads got a chance to live for pages & pages. Mods didn't slam the gavel down quite so quickly. Yup, those were the days.

| how many threads? Posted: 10/25/2009 3:06:43 AM | I was one of the old timers that used to enjoy reading these types of threads...because it was about being light hearted and having a form of entertainment....Now the "forums" are pretty anal and I agree with virtually everything that was said by Funny & Sweet. I used to post all the time in various thread fun and serious. By the looks of this thread and the direction it has taken it too is likely to end up on the floor somewhere amidst all the deleted threads. It would be so nice if we could all keep our ego's out of our a$$es ....lighten up and have fun. Some times the best thing to do is just ignore a persons comments...as it only adds fuel to the fire.
Earlier tonight I actually started a thread for the soul purpose of getting some information from my POF friends..... I know there are many fishies out there who have lots of fantastic information and the are people who I value having as another resource in my life. All the pettiness we could do with out!
I miss Gon_Fishin....Who-Deleted_Me....fluffy Handcuffs...I"m sure they lurks here somewhere, once in a while or have had their profiles "deleted" for various reasons.... right PhatFat? lol Its really kinda sad to even say...life in the forums was much simplier then... And we valued one another...our friendships and accepted others for their differences..most of the time. That is where we started with ...Plenty of Friends....
Back in our day...that would have been "Just my two cents" .... Now its " Just my two loonies"...as of the cost of keeping a thread going seems to lead to many "expenses" ...sadly at the expense of others....not just cash!!!

It's an inevitable result of the self-moderation system POF runs. When you let people vote on which threads to keep, it's opening the doors for the Anal Self-Appointed Forum Police to kill everything they disapprove of, so naturally you wind up with one tedious thread after another.
Community forums are best run with a light touch, much like the mayor of a small town might use in his real community. Take action only when really needed. Ignore most differences of opinion and let people squabble. If they really start creating too much noise pollution it's generally better to point them to one thread rather than censoring them outright. I've seen more than one forum killed by admins and moderators who just never understand that adults won't put up with being nanny-ed.
To manage them properly you also need good technical tools, such as the ability to easily move posts from one thread to another, merge and split threads, and so on. Although I don't have any inside information, I guess POF is quite deficient in that area since I never see mods doing any of those things. It also helps a lot to give the users more power to filter out things they don't like; at a minimum that takes away any grounds they have for whining about threads they dislike for no good reason.
That's my not-so-humble opinion based on nearly thirty years contributing to forums, administering forums, moderating forums and writing the code for forum systems. Attach whatever value to it you see fit. I'll predict in advance that the Anal Self-Appointed Forum police will find ways to disapprove, but most other people will agree. Some might even say so. :P
