Musician also, so yes. Listen to wide range of wyrdness. As for country, i'll play it for the bread-and-butter gigs, but it's not my music of choice. Though John Prine has some evil lyrics.

my overall taste hasn't changed, although i do get different musical "moods" at times, where i like to listen to one type of music a lot for a while, then move on to another.....but i still like pretty much all the same types of music that i always have

Yeah, it's change drastically over the years. I used to only listen to reggae, the smiths, the cure, and depeche mode in high school, but would get made fun of in school for what I listened to. Then I got into punk and hardcore when it was in surf flicks. in the last 4 years I've gotten into hip-hop and some salsa. I just like to listen to everything, when you get older, you start to diversify.

i'd rather say my taste has "evolved". to me, everything in the music world i listen to goes through a trial period. which is the initial listen, the immediate listens after, and the amount of listening that happens after it is retired to the shelf.

i've never really stopped liking the things i used to. i don't sit and play all the modest mouse albums one after the other anymore, but i do pop one in from time to time. i like a lot of stuff, and i personally just can't grasp the concept of not liking music you once did. even if you don't listen to it as much as you once did.. the enjoyment still lingers.

as for country.. i just think it is a genre of music that unfortunately is associated with the worst musicians. most country artists have never played a hard lick in their life and lack an important substance factor. if i were you, i'd give music rooted a bit deeper a try. delta blues is my vote but you might even get into some rockabilly

Nope once a metal head ALWAYS a metal head. I mean really, how can you go from Slayer to Coldplay?

I've never stopped discovering music, some people my age are still listening to Foghat...I like all composites of metal, drum and bass, and lounge/beautiful music....give me sad beauty, or ugly power and I'm good to go. I don't like sax anymore, but go nutz for muted trumpet. I find it really hard to listen to old pop standards, Beatles, Zepplin just burned on it..etc so I just keep movin on with stuff like cradle of filth or Heny Mancini......coldplay? Don't get me started....

to the girl who thinks country musicians aren't good, you are very wrong! Some of those guys rip, just play a different genre....

I feel the biggest mistake alot of people make is pigeon holing music and therefore not giving bands/artist a go. I have always lived by the concept that until you hear it you cannot knock it.

I was never much of a jazz fan when I was growing up but I saw this band, Paris Combo in Marseille about 9 years ago and have loved them ever since...now my jazz collection continues to grow and grow.

Johnny Cash is one artist I have grown to admire more and more in recent years. Still I am only 31 so there is alot more out there to change me :) Often I will read interviews where a band is name dropped and will check them out. More often than not I tend to like what I hear. :)

no matter what you like, I think everyone can get into Blues...its just that feeling and rythm.

I love it.

Agreed, ( and Hi !! ) it's funny because my old HS buddies just put up some stuff on Facebook that we *tried* to play in the garage back then. Very BAD Judas Priest covers LOL I've just always loved Metal, and don't seem to stray too far from that sound. There's new stuff that's likely considered / categorized as "alternative" that I get into as-well, but basically all that same distorted guitar sound - classic rock, rock, heavy metal, alternative. I'm just not as familiar with what or who I'm listening to anymore. I'm not really following any bands the way I did back in my teens and early 20's like "Iron Maiden" anymore (MAIDEN RULES!!) .... ahem.

Okay, I do like some Beasty Boys and that may be considered "Rap" so, I dunno. I like their "version" of it if it is considered "Rap", even though I'm not into Rap per-se.

I guess the closest to "country" I've ever gotten was "Devil went down to Georgia" I mean, who didn't like that? Common. Some country is just fun for laughs more than anything "There's a tear in my beer and I'm crying for ya dear" LOL

Then it's weird because I was exposed to stuff growing-up that my older brother and sister liked too like Zeppelin and Yes and Jethro Tull, even the Beatles and other classic stuff. I also got into stuff like Frank Zappa and other kinds of music. Last several years I just listen to what's on the local rock station 92.3 K-Rock in NYC - So if it's new, that's where I hear it.

The new Metallica album "Death Magnetic" sounds like they finally wised-up and went back to their roots again too. This may actually be the first new album I buy since like 1992 or something!

I just know the sound I like.

Nope! With the exception of obviously adding newer bands to my library it has been "Metal" since 1981-ish. I have to confess though...I do enjoy some DMB & some other stuff, but NO country, NO rap, & almost no pop.

I listened to a little bit of rap when I was a kid. I don't like rap now. I like most types of music though.
Cannibal Corpse, Lionel Richie, Enya, Flotsam and Jetsam, The Eagles...not much has changed really. lol

My taste in music has definitely changed. The vast majority of the stuff I liked when I was in my teens and twenties I don't care to ever listen to again. I'm also still discovering a lot of older music I ignored back when it was new and find that I like much of it. Generally, I like to hear a lot of new/unfamiliar music, rather than stuff I've already heard a million times before, unlike most people. I can't see how so many people around my age got stuck in the '80s for example, and still rather listen to Journey or Foreigner(barf!) than something current.

I used to listen to nothing but Metal. Now I listen to everything under the sun. Everything from metal to rap to country to blues. Metal will always be my number one but rap is like poetry put to music. Country is a story being told and blues is music straight from the heart. Jazz is relaxing and probably the most talented of any genre. Jazz has every instrument I can think of. Smooth jazz is beautiful. As long as the musiscians can play proficiently I'm down with about any genre and group. Although I prefer up tempo songs. -Dre

For some reason, I cannot tolerate Jazz, 'smooth' or otherwise. To me it's like irritating noise. That's one thing about my taste in music that hasn't changed over the years.

I've realized that the older I get, the more I prefer music where I can actually understand the lerics. When I was a teen I liked all that screaming music, but I have lost interest in it now. I still do not like country or rap and I don't think I ever will.

I've always been a big fan of late 80s/early 90s metal (Cinderella, KIX, Great White, etc), but as I got older I also started getting into jazz. Being a child of the 70s I also listen to a lot of that as well. But I always go back to the 80s metal. You know those old "desert island" lists? Mine wouldn't have anything less than 15-20 years old. And for those who are curious: KISS, Tony Bennett, The Beatles, Great White, KIX and Brian Setzer.

I've noticed that some groups I really liked sound crappy now. I won't mention any groups so I don't start trouble.

It sure has.
Growing up in the '70's I listened to a lot of AC/DC and other hard/heavy metal rock bands. I also liked Southern Rock since I lived in Alabama. Then came the Hair bands/Glam bands of the '80's.
In the mid '90's I was into Industrial music.
A friend introduced me to Techno in '99 and for the past ten years I am into House, Trance and Dance music. NO HIP HOP!!!
There are several different Genres of House and Trance.
Progressive House has the affect on me that Metal did when I was a kid.
Vocal Trance is just soothing and uplifting.

Yes...As a teen I was into lots of "hairmetal" bands that were popular at the time as well as U2 and muscians like Peter Gabriel. But around 1990 I was introduced to Faith No More and NIN (through opening for Guns-N-Roses!) and I really started expanding the music I listened to. I'm into a lot of indy groups now ambient electronica, industrial, metal, ska, punk, dance, hip hop, rockabilly, psychobilly, even some country (Hank Williams III)

Kinda funny, heard some old Ratt songs the other day (was a favorite band back then) and still kinda like them, but they sound so...old!
