| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/4/2006 3:19:23 PM | Great game between Germany and Italy, Cannavaro of Italy made some great defensive plays......next stop for Italy.......WORLD CUP | |

| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/4/2006 10:09:13 PM | congrads again John!!!!!
who said it was going to be dull!!!!..........it was a real nail biter.......probably the most tense match to date!
i think the italians deserved it........they had the best scoring opportunities throughout the whole game even though there were few........the germans couldn't finish any of their plays right outside the box!........both goal tenders were good...but in the end, Lehman didn't get the support he needed.
this was the classic offense VS. defense type of game......the germans played well defensively as well, but they broke down in overtime.....while the italians kept their funk!!!!
this proves my point made in an earlier post that GOOD DEFENSE will prevail over OFFENSE in games like this!........both Klose and Podowski were rendered as USELESS as Ronaldo and Ronaldino were (against france)....all these guys look brilliant against defensively weaker teams but their true colors come out in games like this!!!!!
i can easily see italy winning it at this point......beating the germans in their ground was a helluva feat...so i don't see them losing to either of the other 2 teams left.
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/5/2006 1:05:56 AM | | Good to see Bayern Munich are looking at picking up Klose as they have Podolski. That combination has been one of the highlights of this tournament Klinsman has been an exceptional motivator for his country and hopefully silenced his critics about living in the states. Commitment knows no borders... | |
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/5/2006 1:51:21 AM | I find it ironic that the best German offence players are... Polish. :-P
Do you think France will win tonight?? (silly question, right? ;-) Do you think they deserve it?
Would you rather see them play against Italy in the final? I think it would be a great match, but... I do like Portugal
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/5/2006 2:21:52 AM | | not so ironic Kats when you consider at least 60% of the French side are from annexed nations including Zidane. I'm still mulling over the likely outcome of tonights game , I'll will post my choices closer to kick off | |
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/5/2006 6:00:13 AM | i'm still speechless over yesterdays game. i was so happy and jumping everywhere...I watched the game replay twice...at one point i was crying when they scored their second and the announcer was going nuts. I got my flag ready for sunday!
GO ITALY! | |
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/5/2006 6:24:22 AM | | LOL I admit I was really excited and just amzed on how that game between Italy and germany turned out. How it was 0-0 the whole game until the end when Italy Just WOKE up and just distroyed the German team. WOW!! I was happy. | |
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/5/2006 9:32:02 AM | Viva Azzurri!!! Both have played well, it could have gone either way. I believe Italia didn't want to confront penalties shootouts, since there record is terrible. I'm bit surprise everyone bet Germany would win. Since Italia has complete team, can play either offensive and defensive tactics at the same time. Francesco Totti believes Italia will face Portugal at Berlin for final game.

|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/5/2006 11:51:47 AM | | i've finally decided to go with Ricardo over Barquez. The midfield is a battleground of brilliance Zizou, Deco, Figo, Ribery,Maniche, Makelele, Ronaldo,Vieira so getting the ball to the in goal area will happen but who's up to the defense. Portugal has had the harder run to get here and Abigal and Malouda have let other teams pass them. I like Totti see a Portugal Italy final | |
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/5/2006 1:41:20 PM | ^^^^ wrong! how could France lose it now after beating the best team in the world.
Zidane wants it so bad, he wants to retire as a champ and it shows.
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/5/2006 1:53:15 PM | | I was so wrong.. Portugal could have done it but there were not enough players in the in goal area. They gave it to Les Bleus.. Deco and Ronaldo can be proud of their performances | |

|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/5/2006 2:34:40 PM | | new FIFA rule for the next cup...3 yellow cards before a send off, that's going to create more havoc in pressure matches.. four days no football, how tragic..I'll have to watch replays and the tour de france | |
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/5/2006 2:38:42 PM | | wow, Portugal deserved to win. but a well placed pk from zidane and no delivery on the crosses from portugal, france is in the final. Portugal's style of play, especially in the dying moments, is what makes football the best sport in the world. As for sunday, I'm behind the french. | |
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/5/2006 3:40:59 PM | Have to feel sorry for Portugal after a great effort and for goal keeper Riccardo , he is one of the best in the world, its unfortunate that it came down to a referee's decision for a penalty kick or who knows how it would have resulted.
Anyhow, that was France's last win in the World Cup because they have to face Italy and i cant see them winning after today's performance.
Go Italy......... | |
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/5/2006 3:47:55 PM | Zidane is scaring the crap out of me. It was obvious France would win today though. But I hope Italy takes the cup. I don't want France to win.

| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/5/2006 4:37:43 PM | Thanks sum1.........and you were right with your prediction of the game between Italy vs. Germany going into extra time. However,I'm glad it didn't go into penalty kicks and that was my biggest worry......so I was estatic when they scored in the dying minutes of the second half of overtime.
I can't wait for this Sunday's final BETWEEN ITALY vs FRANCE!
I'm so excited that every car I see with the ITALY FLAG........I beep my horn at THEM!!!!!!
Go Italy this SUNDAY!!!!!!!!!
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/5/2006 7:17:08 PM | the port-france match was another good example of DEFENSE prevailing over OFFENSE!....once the french scored......they set up an invisible brick wall in their own end.
the final should be a good match......unlike the WC of 2002, these 2 teams definitely deserve to be there.......they are truly the 2 best teams left!......2 masters of the defensive game!
the team that makes the fewest mistakes will win!..............its hard to pick a winner...so may the best team win!
| |
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/5/2006 7:30:42 PM | Another nail biter today with Portugal losing. I do have to agree with you sum1reel that the team with the fewest mistakes will win. But then endurance and stamina also play an important part of the game.
It is nice to see different nationallities get together and cheer and enjoy the atmosphere of Soccer Fever.
For all of those that lost, lets just say the experience will never be forgotten. After all is said and Done. We all look forward for South Africa 2010.
All the Best for the Finalists......................

jayrey, i looked at your profile and you listed baseball as your interest..and you dare criticize soccer? maybe you're just pissed that the world cup COMPLETELY AND ABSOLUTELY overshadows your favorite sport..would you call a baseball game exciting? or athletic?
Zizou is a living legend. i hope france win this one, but i also wouldn't mind italy winning because toronto will simply explode!! its going to be a great game, but i think it will be decided by PKs in the end. however, i think there will be scoring during the game itself. my picks would be Saignol for France and Gilardino for Italy. no matter what, both teams are great even though i cheered against italy the whole tournament..i gotta give them due respect though.

|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/6/2006 1:38:36 AM | | I agree, both teams have been fantastic in spirit and commitment. Azzurri has done well to overcome their domestic dramas and Les Bleus to dispel the over-the-hill critics and unite. Hats off to Buffon and Barthez.. | |
