What guy looks at another guys profile?......a soccer fan i guess.......decided in PK's how friggin exciting.....and obviously i would call baseball exciting why else would I watch it?....it over shadows my sport? like Togo and Ghana games who watches those?....lets see the ratings first before you decide what overshadows what....and in Canada..wow soccer is really huge right? what is Canada ranked 88th? whatever soocer is athletic but its absolutely boring mostly....and to decide an important game by penalty kicks wow...what a team sport......

man...did Portugal get screwed out of the World Cup Final by the Referee. From what I watched of the game the officiating couldn't have been any more one sided. I think FIFA decided that since Brazil wasn't going to be in the final they had to rig it so that France would get in to set up a Italy/France match up which should get better ratings then Italy/Portugal.

jayrey, maybe you've never watched a soccer penalty shootout before.. if that isn't intense, then what is? and who cares if soccer is big in canada? it's ONLY the biggest sport in the rest of the world..

European football is growing every year in Canda. And I think the shoot-outs are one of the most exciting parts in any sport. And as for baseball, coming from a baseball player (me), it is an extremely slow sport. As for Portugal getting screwed by the refs, what game were you watching?!!! They should have been carded for all the diving. FIFA is going to have to do something about that. It's ridiculous and makes the game look less splendid.

France is in the final ...but that game against Portugal was a tough one ,and what the hell was Bartez thinking with 30 seconds left to the game ,just kike the ball down field..Heads up for Portugal, they gave a good figth.
As for the refering,i agree with you Styles, the Portuguese kept diving and diving all over the place,it was absolutly ridiculous, they were obviously trying to trap the referee..FIFA should do something about it ,it was a non sense that only slowed up the game .
By the way,i don't know for you guy's,but here in Montreal, after the game, the french community ( i mean french from France) wen't down the street and celabrated blocking part o've downtonw..it was craaazy...but pretty cool.
Now ,as for who will win the final....I don't know,i think it could go either way...but I'm backing the frenchman alll the way....ALLEZ LES BLEUS

for Jayrey

I was just wondering...
why would you watch soccer if you don't actually like it or you finding it so boring... nobody glues you to the tv now.. right???

going back to the final... ITALY ALL THE WAY, we have the best defens and Lippi is a great coach, I don't know how many of you noticed that unlike the other past world cup games, now once Italy scores they keep going instead of closing back on defens like they used to do....

Cannavaro is great he saved the day more then once, so is Gattuso the multi task man... all the team is well put togheter...
it has been to long since the last cup... and with all the messy situation back home we really need it to cheer everybody up....

FORZA AZZURI!!! luvya all guys

sushi maybe you should read my posts before you quote them like in the other threads....I said i would rather watch a game with no diving, as opposed to watching a game at all.........

jayray soccer is my #1 sport and I agree on diving displayed by lot of players in all countries, I hope FIFA does something about that at next world cup, some changes need to be made .... why not have 2 refs one at each end and instead of 2 yellow cards which= red card, make it 3 yellow=red. some changes need to be addressed as some others mentioned in this thread.

for a baseball fan to call soccer a boring game is equivalent to a snail, calling a turtle a "slow poke"

i happen to like baseball myself....so i like watching good quality games played.....i basically understand some of the finer points so when i see them i can appreciate the spectacle....but i can't think of anything more boring than watching the friggin Devils rays play the Orioles or the Pirates playing the Nats (and this is just a few lame match-ups i can think of)....luckily, i live in the NYC area so i can watch 2 decent teams play.......but many other towns can't say the same........the point here is that the number of NON-boring baseball games is well over-shadowed by the number of BORING games......the proof is in the revenues that many of the teams pull in!

and i'm saying this as someone who knows baseball a little.......you, however, seem to know little IF ANYTHING about soccer.........so for you to call something that you don't understand as boring is about as short-sighted as you can get!

[-now once Italy scores they keep going instead of closing back on defens like they used to do.... -]

DEFENSE is the trademark of italian soccer..........they, more than anybody, realized that it is defense that wins championships!!!..........yes, they have more offensive threats but the scary part is that there is no "go to" man on that team......anybody is capable of scoring from any area.....so the opponents can't just focus on 1 or 2 players.

its gonna be a hard test for the french.....they will have to play the best game ever if they are to win!

VIVA ITALIA BABY!! Although I love the french team,as well...I'm lucky because I will be happy either way, just not AS happy as I will be when Italy wins. Just a bit more partial to my Italians. Can't help it. Better stop, my heart is starting to pound just thinking of the game!

jayray: Canada is 83rd, not 88th. Give us a couple of generations and we'll make it into the top 32, or maybe FIFA will keep expanding the pool till it's wide enough for Canada to squeeze in. More likely, Canada's best will move on to play for other countries, a trend that we are starting to see. Regardless, it is the most PLAYED sport in Canada.

Portugal faced some bad reffing, no doubt. Still, I can feel good about seeing France in the Final. It's been a pleasure watching Zidane and Henri, some amazing goalkeeping by Barthez. Looking forward to Sunday!!!

I could bring you the stats if you want. For now I'll just go on knowledge since I have coached football, hockey, gridiron, and baseball through all levels of amateur sports. Football has the highest level of participation of all sports in Canada. This is a fact and not an opinion. Now here's where this is misleading. Included in the stats are children's participation.

Until 10 years ago, there were hardly enough girls playing hockey (most played ringette) to even warrant their own leagues. Girls have almost never been allowed to play baseball with boys. Instead they have had to play softball or fast pitch. Gridiron doesn't really have a huge influx in youngsters until they hit 12 years old or so. Same with basketball. Football, however, starts as young as hockey (roughly 3 or 4 years old) and until the age of 9 teams are mixed between boys and girls. At that point they split into girls only and boys only leagues and divisions but the fall-off of players doesn't happen. In fact, at the age of 12 participation in both the boys side and girls side goes up. At the age of 15, and here on in, participation does begin to decline whether it be to the influx of other sports (high school athletics) or the fact that as a nation, the governmental support of football just isn't there. Another thing that may have to do with the reduced participation at older ages is the stigma of being Canadian. I can honestly only name one Canadian football player (Hargreaves) and he doesn't even play for Canada whereas I can name almost every player that has played for Canada's Olympic hockey team over the past 2 decades. LOL We're a hockey nation and eventually we beat the football out of people. Now onto the thread as it was meant...

I think Italy is playing too good for an old French team to match them. Italy has superior defence and galtending (anyone who says Buffon isn't the best in the world doesn't know crap), and I think the magic of Zidane is about to run out. If France does pull it off I would consider it a huge upset as Italy has played some of the best football throughout the tournament.

Soccer always been and probably will always be a fairly fast but slow scoring game

Because of this the influence of the Umpire and Touch Judges is vitally important and will often have a huge impact on who wins or loses

With the number of obvious errors during this cup, and past ones, will they introduce some form of Video Referee?

In games like Rugby League and Rugby Union, the Video is proving very good at reducing Possible Umpiring errors

If someone continually 'takes a dive' the video ref would see this clearly
Could simply say 'Yellow card for diving number ???"
Would remove that aspect very quickly
