| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/9/2006 1:46:25 PM | What a game.............well I guess Zidane will have to wait another 4 years to retire, that was stupit what he did. | |
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/9/2006 2:00:19 PM | Its silly what Zizou has done and definitely cost Les Bleu the game but in history's minds eye , he will always be a great of the game.
The trophy designed by an Italian goes home. Cannavaro has got to be the outstanding player of the tournament....
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/9/2006 2:01:54 PM | ok i love the fact you all bash Zidane, yet you all ignore the Marco foul that lead up to the Zidane Pk
And if you all watched the game did you see how many times Italy faked fouls/injuires. Like this was a a good game till the 2nd half an extra time. Im not approving Zidanes actions but i also didnt see the headbutt.
Oh well it was good tournament all around.....And hell ill admit it, ive never beena fan of soccer but it was entertaining this yr, i say the world up should be every yr, 4 yrs is too long. Lets go Germany in 2010
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/9/2006 2:12:18 PM | Congrads to John & all of Italy/fans through-out!!!..............
it was a helluva game.......and as i said, the team that made the fewest mistakes would win....and Trezeguet made the mistake of MISSING his PK!
i could NOT believe that Zidane did something as STUPID as he did!......in my mind, i thought he would be the last guy to ever do something like that.......this is even WORSE than what Rooney did.
He cheated his own team of an extra man at a pivital time...France was getting the better of the offensive chances in the OT!!!....and thus took himself out of the PK shoot.
He might very well have cost France the WC!........unbelievable!......what a shameful way for a guy like him to retire!!!!!!!
PS-the officiating was pretty good overall(to my surprise!)
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/9/2006 2:22:21 PM | I am really in shock and even sad about the Zidane incident. He is a great competitor and Will alwasy be to me and to millions upon million of others around the world one of the best ever. He did his job with class, skill, savy, and determination. It's unfortunate that one moment of snapping at that Italian player got him out and that changed the face of the game.
****CONGRATS TO THE ITALIANS .......VIVA ITALIA!!!!!
ZIDANE- YOU WILL ALWAYS BE A CHAMPION to me and to millions of others around the world. !!!!

PS-the officiating was pretty good overall(to my surprise!)
Sum1 Im going to agree with you for a change and praise the officials for a good job well done tonight.
Edit ^^Well said,Zidane will still always be a master of football in my book and always remembered as a world class player.

| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/9/2006 2:39:05 PM | I'm so disappointed that I wanted to cry
France should have won, they played soooooooooo well, the whole 120 mins. Apart from the tactics, the team spirit was the strongest I could ever sense. It's a shame what Zidane had done, I feel truly sorry for him, a good player ended his career with such a disgraceful reaction. All the glories earned in the past was all in vain, for that 15 seconds.........I wish someone could tell me or explain to me why.
Watched the game in a local bar that full of Italian fans, was hoping France would turn the table around. Well, let's see what's going to happen in SA 2010. Good game anyway, and my blessings to Zidane, as I can feel his pain.

[-.........I wish someone could tell me or explain to me why.-]
there was some grabbing and bumping but no big physical altercation going on before he head-butted Toni.........with what was at stake, i can't think of anything that was said between them which would have justified that act.
i kinda feel a bit sorry for the rest of the french players such as Henry, makalele, ribery...these guys busted their asses for 120 minutes on both ends of the field and at times came close to scoring....and then to have something like that happen!
if i was one of Zidane's team-mates, i would be Pissed-off....bigtime!
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/9/2006 3:07:03 PM | Zidane head butted Toni?? Toni is a pretty big guy, How did Toni go down from one head butt?
I know he should have kept his cool.
What wsas the foul that accoured prior to the headbutt.??
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/9/2006 3:16:02 PM | ^ yes it was an intended head-butt!......no question about it!.......you can easily see it on the re-plays.......it was done pretty fast so most of the crowd didn't see it.....in slow motion it was a hard butt right over the cardiac area......i'm not surprised Toni went down...i don't think he expected something like that from zidane. | |
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/9/2006 4:15:52 PM | | Actually if u watch again, its simply a over act , THats been the case off all injuries this yr, u get pushed, I need a stretcher! | |
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/9/2006 4:31:43 PM | Great...Italy Wins the WORLD CUP..... and i called it right....
As for Zidane, he got what he deserved, you dont ram your head hard into an opposition player and think your going to get away with it.
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/9/2006 7:20:37 PM | he head butted Materazzi not Toni...
and what it counts it's that... WE WON.. and this for those who didn't belive we could make it....
Zidane??? a simply disgrase.... no other words to describe what he did... no matter what Mate had told him he acted like a cave man, an on his last game too.... really no words...
SIAMO I CAMPIONIIIIIIII
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/9/2006 7:25:07 PM | I think Zidane head butted Materazzi because Materazzi was the one who made that 1 goal against France in the beginning of the game. No wonder Zidane was so frustrated, he felt the need to head butt the same exact player who made that goal. What Zidane did was extremely stupid. That was totally uncalled for. I'm sure millions of people watching the game could say that.Who cares now anyway, Zidane's career is over and Italy won and I am damn happy Italy won! They deserved it.

Who spent half his carreer in Italy??.. Zidane?

Zid played in the italian league for quite a few years.......he knows the scoop on the italian system of play.....he was a key member on some of the championship teams (i don't know the name) of serie A.
there was nothing done in this final game that should have set him off like that.......he let his team-mates down!!!
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/9/2006 8:47:52 PM | why is everyone surprised...for those of us that actually watch soccer more than once every 4 years, im not surprised at all, zidane is known for headbutting and spike attacking
hell, he stomped on a player in the 98 world cup in a game against saudi arabia
if Materazzi pinched my nipple on international television, like he did to zidane, i'd headbutt him too
|
| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/9/2006 9:18:57 PM | Nice comment on that pinching the nipple thing. Of course no one sees that as an offence, but then Zidane finished it off, I guess with it being in the records that he head butted the player in the chest, what the heck, it was his last game. Way to go Zidane, Zizou.
And for the Italians, Congradulations. This World Cup was Awesome, with alot of surprises

| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/9/2006 9:39:53 PM | As someone who was never into soccer I gotta say... wow... it was a great world cup.. I intend to follow soccer more often... sure it does get boring at times but cripes man, Ive never seen better athletics. How many other sports can they play end to end (a very long end to end) like that without changing players every 2 mins? Im amazed by the athletics and endurance of the soccer players. As for Zidane.... too bad he had to go out looking like a hooligan... he was one of the best players ever and for him to act in such a way is disgraceful. He cost his team a cup. But then... he does have a history of such behaviour...
All in all.. great game! WTG Italia!

| WORLD CUP SOCCER 2006 Posted: 7/10/2006 1:57:56 AM | Thanks to all for the company over the last month. It was good to read posts whilst waiting for games to start at 11pm, 2am and 5am.. definitely made me look past sleep deprivation and after all is said and done. we soon forget about the shirt pulling, diving, foulplay, bad referee decisions and politics which seems to always shadow this beautiful game. It can only reflect the reality of the world in which we live... one just has to read the posts in this thread to understand how difficult it must be, to bring together scores of countries to one location and expect inherit bad behaviour to be left at the border.. But wasn't it wonderful to see Togo do their little animal dance, Klose and Podolski stamp their partnership in the first game against Costa Rica, Dwight Yorke motivate Trinidad Tobago to giddy heights, Bruce Arena throw up his arms in total disbelief at the referees call, CAMBIASSO AMAZING GOAL which involved practically the whole team, the last time Serbia Montenegro play as one nation, the pride on the Dutch players faces when they gazed up into the stadium full of orange splendour, the quarter finals which pitted titanic teams against one another including Pekerman's men against Klinsmans boys, the tantalising morsels held out by Ghana, Tunisia and Cote De Ivoire with players the likes of Appiah, Amoah, Drogba and Eboue, the inevitable curtain call on players such as Thuram, Zidane,Ronaldo, Figo. Kahn and finally the passing of the torch to rising stars Ribery, Messi, Robinho...ahh joga bonito | |
