Whoa! What happened to this post....anyhow.......I am about honesty and I do carry a few extra lbs and that is how my profile is listed. I also state that I have 20 lbs to lose(I'm also 4 11 1/2)...I also have current pictures, so I figure none of it can be misleading.

*Ideal Weights according to the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company tables (1983)

Calculating Your Frame Size
Following is the method the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company used to calculate frame size:

Extend your arm in front of your body bending your elbow at a ninety degree angle to your body so that your forearm is parallel to your body.

Keep your fingers straight and turn the inside of your wrist towards your body.

Place your thumb and index finger on the two prominent bones on either side of your elbow, then measure the distance between the bones with a tape measure or calipers.
Compare to the chart below. The chart lists elbow measurements for a medium frame - if your elbow measurement for that particular height is less than the number of inches listed, you are a small frame - if your elbow measurement for that particular height is more than the number of inches listed, your are a large frame.

Singin,,,this chart is right on the mark. As i posted quite a few posts back,,,there are 3 body frames: Small,,Medium and Large (just as is pasted in your post). A woman who is larger framed and say 5'10 can weigh 180 pounds and look stunning, whereas someone like me, who is med. framed at 5'6 would look like quite the chunky monkey. I think more women are more aware of this (frame types, etc,,) since we are the most critical of our own bodies. Men however,,,are clueless. You tell a man you weigh 150 and he'll run away. But if you are a larger framed woman weighing in at 150 and tell him you weigh 150 ( but look like 125), he wont believe you and he'll say you are being too modest and weigh less. lol

I just tell 'em height/weight proportionate and if they aint happy with that,,,,pffft,,see ya!! lolol

All the women on POF are beautiful but as far as our sanity well that is left up to the individual......lol.. I think we all have to be a little crazy to live in this world. As well as trying to find love on the internet...SCARY STUFF GIRLS!!!!!
I looked all over for a more recent chart I had no luck and the ones I did find were the same. This one just copied and pasted the best....

I think there is some confusion regarding "average" vs "proper" weight. With an estimated 2/3 of our country either considered "overweight" or "obese" by the government studies, this would seem to indicate a higher "average" wieght for ANY frame or height person.
I think this is where the whole "average" body shape/size problem arises.
Men hear average and think "proper" size for any given height.

I am 5'6, and currently at 167 pounds. I would consider myself a few extra pounds. I am making an HONEST assesment of my own size. I am, however , doing something about my size. I was 189 5 weeks ago, and I'm taking the weight off through hard work yet again.

Here's the deal...if you cannot be honest with yourself on something as simple as what others CAN see, how can they expect you to be honest about the many things they CAN'T see?
If I am aware that a young lady says she is a few extra lb's, then I know what I can expect when I meet her. But to say you are average and be 20, 30, 40+ lbs overweight is not being honest with yourself, others, and is wasting your time and thiers.

CONCLUSION? Be HONEST!

This is a chart for normal people though..

There is one brand of person these charts do not work well for..
My doctors have tried to use the BMI and other indexes and they just dont work for the 3% or so of the population that are not normal.

But you are correct for the normal person these charts are pretty fortelling.

What do I mean by I am not Normal?
Doctors used to frame people into one of three classes and mixtures of them. I am what they call a Mesemorph and I have to be close to 100%...
This means I build muscle easy and I am big boned. I have the genetics to be a very big body builder type of guy. I just fool around with weights now and people think I am on steriods. When I was 365 lbs I was a bit obese to be sure.. At most today I could loose another 20-30 lbs and would be in the very low percentage of body fat class.. So what does this mean? I don't have a six pack at this time. Thats about it..
I am 6'3" and try to fit me on that scale at a whopping 285 lbs.
As I continue to work out I end up staying the same weight but my waist band shrinks from its current 36-38 inch size. but then again I do have problems wearing some shirts due to the size of my arms so I tend to only wear short sleves so they don't bind up on my arms, I have to wear a XXL in some brands because I am very broad chested. Pants wise I could fit into 36inch waist but the legs are generally not made for someone with 26inch thighs.. So relaxed fitting jeans tend to look like normal fit jeans on me. And I have to wear slightly larger sometimes due to needing more room in em.

What does all this have to do with the price of tea in china?
Well first of all.. the BMI doesn't work for everyone. The only thing that truley works is submersion in water where they can acturatly record your percent body fat. But still. Since I carry the extra 20-30 lbs should I call my self "A few extra pounds" Or athletic? I call myself athletic simply because that extra weight I do have is ONLY around my middle and isn't that much. You look at me otherwise and I would be considered nothing but athletic and I could drop the 20 lbs in a very short period of time with all the activities I do but because I do play football I am maintaining my weight at a managable level.

But then again.. For me I don't care much for women who are too thin. If they are athletic and thin? Yea sure but otherwise I have been known to not know my own strength and I could easily hurt someone too small and I would NOT want to do that.. But then again I also don't care much for someone too big. Women who are two big tend to carry alot of emotional baggage that is related to them being big. And since I am an active guy I would like for the woman I am with to be pretty active too. And GENERALLY larger women are not ones to be overly active...
What do I mean by active? I don't blink twice at riding my bicycle for 20-30 or even 40 miles right now.. I can do 40 miles in three hours because I havent ridden much lately but I used to ride all the time. Used to do 30 in an hour but that was a long time ago. MOST people think a 10 mile bike ride done in 3 hours is a good ride.

Ok now I think I started rambling somewhere back there so Ill stop... LOL

It's funny how everyone is debating the setting of average instead of a few extra pounds.

Personally I believe a lady is meant to be soft and curvy. In the ancient times that was the standard of beauty.

Now we have an impossible standard, with bean pole models with zero fat and no curves.

I personaly set my search to look above average, so maybe I am missing a lot of potentials, but I am a few pounds over (Husky w/tummy) and expect that someone who is a bean pole wouldn't like me anyway.

Sometimes I look around at all the people and think, a lot of these guys have a belly too. Does that make me average, what is the average in Michigan anyway? It has to be different than Florida, that's for sure.

Think the main tone for this message though is when someone says that they are average when they are lets say 5'3" and 200 lbs. They are obviously NOT average sized in that case but are afraid if they tell the truth no one will go out with them. This is the same thing as those who post a picture thats 10 years or more younger before they had kids and before their body got stretched this way and that way. These people may try getting you to chat with them a long time so you get to see "the real them" inside and you won't care that they are big. They think you will overlook the fact they lied about what they looked like and still be interested. These same people may also say average and their pictures only show head shots as well.

How do I know this? Well unfortunatley I have dated a few women off here and elsewhere and its a common "lie". I am sure some of the women can provide examples of the same thing of men as well. Guys that say they are 6' tall when they are actually 5'4" and stuff like that. I only say "unfortunatly" because I am still looking and having found "the one" yet.

Personally... I am a big boy... Not fat mind you.. Gym rat big.. I don't care much for twigs simply because I think twigs might break to easy. So I don't mind a woman that carries a few extra lbs. But then again if she carries too many lbs then there generally are other issues there that I personally don't care to deal with. But of course its all about perception and personal choice. I am an active individual and I don't care to be with someone who isn't atleast a little bit active.

So what is an average weight now of days really who knows. America is getting fat thanx to the fast food we drive by everyday or the working our a*ses off just so we can afford to live in the lovely country that gives us freedom. Yes even the freedom to eat what we want where we want and as many calories that we want. So instead of having a size 5 pants as being average anymore its a size 14 and instead of wearing a medium shirt its now a large. Should all men complain no most of the time the fat the women gains is in her cheast anyways. Just meaning that when we loose the weight it also comes from the chest first. So really think to yourself what is average and what is over weight.

In this case, yes people should be honest. It doesn't help when they try to trick someone into meeting them. Honesty is the best policy. It works the other way too. In the past I have meet anorexic people who say they are average. I really prefer a lady with curves being soft instead of the hard bodies. Boney girls hurt :) (Ok don't hate me )

But seriously how can a person who lies on their profile expect someone to believe them in real life..... It just hurts their chances.

"America is getting fat thanx to the fast food we drive by everyday or the working our a*ses off just so we can afford to live in the lovely country that gives us freedom."

America is not geting fat on fast food alone. America used to be a country of farmers and workers where the men toiled and the women baked and cleaned. We, as a country, did not sit in front of computers all day and mash out all the paper trails that we do today. Not only has fast food, snacks, pop, and other ammenities contributed to our obeseness, but also the daily lifestyles and modernizations of our "progressing society." It is our own will to decide what is good and what is bad for our bodies and have the self control to make the right decisions. I myself love love love a big ass bowl of mashed potatoes while sitting on the couch on Thrusday night while watching Grey's, but that doesn't mean i have to eat the whole damn pot of em. Get my drift??

Good luck to all those people out there that are battling the task of losing weight, it's hard, but there's always help if you need it.

yeah i have noticed that men tend to say they are taller then they are, but not a real big deal to me as i place personality as being more important.

what REALLY gets to me though are the married people on here who would rather cheat on their spouse then address maritial issues in a healthy way. but you know, just an observation.

what do woman consider average weight?

Subject have been done to death over and over.. Yet every time we get to read some comments such as "it's a biological fact that men prefer slim women" or "overweight is unattractive". Hey guys, thats YOUR opinion, and it's ok if you think that, but why do you write statements like that as universal truths!! Overweight is unattractive to YOU, there is no proof nowhere that every single man thinks the same; as for me, I see big women with hot boyfriends all the time so...

Weight charts don't work so well for us guys
Posted: 5/17/2008 8:10:20 PM
I'm sure it works for some guys (skinny ones), but my weight doesn't change much whether I'm skinny or fat. I'm about 5'8", 198 lbs, size 36-38. If I quit working out, I'll lose more than 5 lbs of muscle, gain it back in fat, and be about 5'8", 198 lbs, size 38-40. The question I have for girls is... skinny or muscular? Be honest, it's a blog. Note: this assumes that skinny and muscular have a similar Body Mass Index (muscle to fat ratio).

I prefer well toned too, along with a good sense of humor and personality. Humor and a good personality can take precedence over well toned. The BMI only gives an idea of what one should weigh but it doesn’t take into consideration muscle or natural weight. (Natural weight is where you feel and function your best, regardless what the scale says.)
