We are the last vestige of American freedom  And none of use ever get old, and just because it is freaking cold out there is no reason to leave the Harley in the garage. And all the Austin traffic just pulls over when they see me coming. And Sturgis is the promised land,and we all live to ride,and ride to live! And loud pipes save lives,and Harleys can save your sole from hell. (any one buying this?) | |

Posted: 1/27/2008 7:17:49 AM | To all of you trashing bikers on here...first of all don't you think its a bit judgmental to compare the bike to the man....not all bikers belong in a club not all bikers suck in bed , and as far as calling people who ride a harley or any other type of bike, it is an unfair statement to call them white trash...besides the term white trash to me is very rascist and extremely judmental.
No I do not ride a motorcycle and do not travel in those circles, but have known people who own harley's or other bikes...most of them are men with great lives and jobs who just love the freedom that comes from riding a bike. If you're talking about actual clubbers, well thats a different story as well..you can't judge anyone who happens to belong in some sort of club as bad...there's a bad apple in every bunch ...I just think it happens to be a sexy look, but I never make preconceived notions about someone just becuase he happens to ride a harley....What someone drives or chooses to ride is his right and bashing them is totally off base...sorry ..my opinion | |

I'll TRY and give you an answer Clark... but,. it won't be the answer for everyone,..just a clue in the general direction. Most all women want a "Clark Kent" for security, depndability, responsibility,..etc. But just like the Clark Kent in Superman, They can be push overs, a bit dweeby, and can be walked on like a carpet. Now .. get rid of the suit, tie & glasses. and Clark becomes the man of steel.. drawing attention as he flies through the air, uncompromising, unwavering, And standing for Truth, Justice, And the American way! (though Nowadays the American way's been dropped for "world correctness" ) Take away the costume & cape, replace it with Leather, the sound of the Harley, and replace The truth/justice part for "last vestige of the Desperado, outlaw," or just the Man with the Aire, still uncompromising, unwavering,
Basically, a man's man. .. and you just cant project that on a moped, or a Shwinn...
And.. Like I tell the rice-rocket Superbike boys... You may out-run me to the bar,.. but you'll never Out-class Me. Enjoy it, while you can,.. when I pull up,.. You'll be alone. BUT,.. being Superman.. is Temporary,.. he always flies away, and replaced by Clark. Alas,.. the "Bad-Boys" are the same way...replaced by the "decent" guy after the wild oats are sewn...So,. Just hang out,.. you'll be OK ..eventually.

I've been in a 1% club and am now an independent I own 2 harleys now and am building a harley drag bike. I just know there is no feeling like riding it allways puts me in a better mood and puts a smile on my face. I dont own a trailer and ride my bike whereever it goes. and as far as I'm concerned it doesnt matter what you ride as long as you can run with the pack. | |

Posted: 1/27/2008 8:58:26 AM | I ride a Harley (and many others) but you are absolutely correct --Harley Hype !
The hype is partly American pride , partly big the inch (engine size) feeling, partly resale value , and on and on . Other brands ARE cheaper , have less resale value, and help to suppory OTHER countrys by purchasing them . There ARE other brands that are very nice as well - and a Brough Superior has a decent resale value for example at over 100,000 for one in ridable condition ( a hefty increase from the 1100 original price)
By my good fortune , I DO have a bike shop , and have been an avid motorcycle lover since age 2 (when I saw a Harley rider pass our family car while standing on the seat -----my first thought was "gotta have one of those") .
I figgure Asian bikes are like McDonalds food -- made to sell - NOT to eat !
european bikes are cool - the vintage ones anyway !
As for experiancing the feel of FREEDOM -- you're probly correct --- just ain't no other way .
We do all have our prefrences , don't we ! Mine are just based on what I like to ride and work on (customizing) .
As far as that feeling that the engine is gonna rip irself out of the chassis --- HELL -- THATS what we LOVE ! And you'll get the same feeling from a vintage Ducatti (the european Harley) as well .
Get your lady behind you or beside you and go do some twistys on something that will REALLY handle or cruise down the interstate on a Harley and THEN tell me how you feel about your Japanese, chinese, tiwanese, or goofynese whatever !
As for working on em -- I'd rather work on a Harley or vintage European bike as well . Asian bikes SUCK to work on .
As for the ladys loving harleys -- Thank You loard --- I do too !

I have no problem with Asians and Mexicans. Do you? The 883 is a dirt cheap entry level ride, as cheap as the other brands, and a great bike so I hear.

IF I decide to go out and buy a Harley tomorrow does it magically transform me into some hot, macho, bad boy that women will be attracted to. I am all for people having preferences in people. However, this is a shallow, materialistic preference that has little or no bearing on who the man really is. There are all types of men that are bikers........The Man makes the Harley, not vice versa.
This is like the same shallow arguement about men in uniform being attractive......the same logic applies there too. The man makes the Uniform, not vice versa. | |
