In the old days before antiseptic, most people would urinate on an open wound or sore and the healing was very rapid, probably faster than modern ointments. For those of you who think that urine is sterile, or that "urin is an acid, therefore it must be pure"... ever do a spread of urine and see how many bacteria you can grow???

You are quite wrong....urine IS an acid and all acids kill germs. And believe me, it IS a fast healing agent. Try some on a cut or open wound some day. I have, and it works. So, as you said, try again.....lol. | |

Ever hear of Helicobacter pylori the infamous microbe that causes stomach ulcers... ya, that's right, it thrives at pH of 3... so you are wrong. Acid does not sterilize urine. Most people have at least one strain of Escherichia coli in their urine as well which exist as part of the normal flora in the bladder! | |

Gee, I just love a challenge. Ok. Now that we have ascertained that urine is an acid, we just have to prove that an acid will not harbor HARMFUL bacteria agents. Now I am not a chemist, just your everyday lowly electronics tech. However, I did learn something at the old school. That is that all theories hold some merit. Having said that, I am not quite prepared to concede. I will however need a bit of time to research, for the purpose to enable me to quote more knowledgeable people than my humble self. I do acknowledge your determination and requirement to learn.....lol. | |

If urine cannot harbor harmful bactria, then how does any one get a bladder infection??? (Note: I know the answer, I'm just dying to hear your response... now go do your research!)

The harmful bacteria is probably from outside influences, perhaps the penis or vaginal contamination. Now here you have me using words that I shouldn't be using on a site such as this. But what the hell, I have stuck my neck out before. So to perhaps placate your enthusiasm a bit perhaps you will allow me to say that I am still of the opinion that all acids, from my schooling experience, are an exterminator for bacteria and germs as we know them. It is only outside influences that contribute to contaminate the acids etc. So lets look at the acidic affects that contribute to germs etc. I said ACIDIC. Thank you. | |

Your facts are not scientific and you have no basis or backgroud to uphold your argument about acids. You clearly don't even grasp the basic concepts related to acids, and this is not up for discussion. You've already proven that you don't know based on your posts.
Furthermore the "reference" that you provided is a radom website about URINE & UREA THERAPY!!! They are suggesting that people start drinking their own urine to cure all of their problems. Okay... like these people just aren't quite right upstairs. (The reason they can "use" it is because it contains antibodies which is a completely unrelated issue all together!)
Please take what I'm about to say and run, and if you've come out with nothing but this message, I'll be happy; the internet is not a reliable source of information. Even you could potentially create a web page describing your non-scientific, evidence-free theory of how acids prevent bacteria from surviving in urine. And we (or at least I) know that that's not true! Do you see what I'm saying... its not a reliable source. An no, I won't be using it for my studies, but thanks!

FWIW, Bill, I have a useless biology-related Ph.D., and kikilynn is pretty much right. I would qualify that by saying that urine can contain bacteria, though not always, nor should normal urine have significant numbers of microbes.

Actually a doctor was the one who told me that pee is sterile. I spilled some on my self and was completely freaking out while taking a routine pee test during pregnancy.

Ok darling, I won't go any further, but only because this is getting boring. But my original comments were in regards to urine as a healing agent, and that seems to be where we ended back at..lol. Now any biologist, even a micro one, has to concede in the healing powers of urine. Or are all the facts that have been posted and documented over the years incorrect? The internet is also a source for information, as are books written by some professor who may also have got it wrong. Remember, when I went to school we were taught that the atom was the smallest particle, because scientists thought so. We all know that that is not the case. I am at least prepared to have an open mind, and especially when something has been tried successfully since man could stand up and pee. (Don't know where women stand...lol).

My next question is, where you situated outside the bathroom window when you "caught" her peeing in the shower??? If so.. thats not a date.. LOL.
Personally, if I was yer date an knew you were gonna get all that upset at a lil pee, then I might just consider laying a log in the tub. Mashing it up with the shampoo bottle so it goes down the drain might be a lil bit of a pain though.. :P | |
