| Have you ever paid to use a dating site?
Posted: 2/21/2006 8:43:06 AM | I have paid for only one which was Match.com for over a year and I only talke to 1 male.
I still think was a hoax.
I recently watched a investigation program where they where exposing a few dating pay sites for using there employess to contact people and actually go on dates and of course it not work out. I donot know how true this is but Plenty of fish was the only web site they highly recommended. I am still waiting to meet someone.

Posted: 2/21/2006 8:55:13 AM | Yep - and they they weren't worth it. A lot of the messages and "replies" that land in my inbox come from 419 scammers or Russian girls angling for a visa. Never had that with PoF - Mind you, I've never had anything at all with PoF anyway - Wassamatter, ladies? I know you're put there! 
Also - While we're on the subject - how on earth does PoF keep running if no-one funds it? I don't see any adverts or get any spam ? | |

False hope, which might make some people encouraged but the best bet on finding someone is to actually go out, they say bars are not a good place but at least there might be someone there that has same interests, social events, hockey games, festivals, etc... So why pay for it, might as well go to a special house or a strip club where you pay and at least you will get a little of something you are looking for. Might be harsh but it is the facts. | |

Singles, E Harmony, Match...to name a few) and NEVER was I as successful as I was on POF. All in all, POF is undoubtably the best single's site I've found. E.H. was quite expensive. After being a member for like 6 months or something, I had only made it to the actually emailing back and forth stage with one person. No way I would go that route again. POF offeres more opportunities than any of the pay sites I've ever been on. | |

I asked why my card information was being shared and they denied it. Took me three month's and mastercard security to straighten it out. Live and learn. | |

Posted: 2/21/2006 12:46:58 PM | I had lots of messages to reply to on pay sites once i paid & replied wich i did not get any responses to & my membership was over my messages suddenly stoped & before i was a paying member i would get emails constantly once i paid no messages hmmm i wonder why.

I think those sites that lure you in with a free message then go ohhh you have to pay are about mean... I also believe that you should not have to pay to find someone who can catch your interest whether it be for love's sake or conversation and friendship. | |

Have dated online since fall '99. Have my ad on multiple sites and found others do the same. Recently discovered POF and like it alot. Met someone last week on a site linked to POF and we really hit it off. Wouldn't have known about it if not for POF. I actively reccommend things I like and I've told many about POF. I really like yahoo personals email layout (except for the decode junk at the end). Very easy to follow and reply, not just a list. | |

Posted: 2/21/2006 7:37:32 PM | I once paid for both FriendFinder.com and Match.ca. Friendfinder was okay, but nothing special. Not many profiles in my age range and location (Toronto Canada). Match.ca I was very annoyed at. People can send you messages, and you can see that they are there, but you have to pay to read them. So I paid. Turned out they were messages from admin that really said nothing - I think they were an inducement for me to part with money. I did not authorize automatic renewal either, and just before the membership ended, I got 3 emails from female profiles. Nothing for 3 months, then 3 in one day.
I didn't renew anyway. Turns out after reading a few forums that Match and Yahoo are notorious for sending men messages from women who are made up profiles one or two days before their membership expires to try and get them to renew. Slick - and extremely unethical.
Personally, I hope the POF admin makes at least a reasonable amount from the advertising on this site. I'm in IT myself, and I have a very good idea how much time and effort went into programming it. | |

It was ok I suppose, there were plenty of normal, nice people there, that you could flirt with and exchange emails and go into chat rooms yadda yadda. But it really wasn't worth paying for. Especially now that there's a site like this, doing so much, for free. However, it would be nice if the POF patrol could get us some chat rooms, might be a bit much to ask, but worth mentioning. | |

Made my "free" profile on a couple but once I learned a few things about the dating industry I decided that even if I'd ever entertained the thought, I wouldn't again. Ratios are too low (they're big sausage parties) and I've heard many a tale about how those "other" places basically hire people to act as lures to the guys. Anybody who knows this couldn't possibly view it as quality over quantity. There is no quality over there so at least here, the quantity assures some quality. | |
