| Have you ever paid to use a dating site? Posted: 2/17/2006 1:50:59 PM | | Yes...unfortunately I fell prey to eharmony. What a gi-normous waste of money. None of the matches I received were even remotely what I was looking for. I only got one match who actually lived in the same city as I do and he apparently wasn't really interested in pursuing a relationship. My advice to anyone is DO NOT pay for any dating sites. They're all a rip-off. I've met several nice guys from plentyoffish ... and I'm not out a dime! | |

| Have you ever paid to use a dating site? Posted: 2/17/2006 1:59:15 PM | I have a hard time believing that people would shun a dating website because it was free! If it looked really bad and was full of spam and pop-ups, maybe... but this site is simple and solid.
I think most people looking for love would, at the very least, think "why not?"
I'm surprised POF doesn't have ten times the number of members. I think it's still under the radar for the most part... I had looked around at many sites for a while before I found this one.

| Have you ever paid to use a dating site? Posted: 2/17/2006 2:02:55 PM | | I paid at three different sites. Each time it was because someone's profile caught my eye and I figured it was worth a few dollars to say hello. Two out of the three ended up being either a romantic relationship or a friendship. The third time, well, that was yesterday so I won't know for a while how it goes. I expect when a woman pays to join a dating site she is sincere about finding someone. At a free site she may or may not be, it seems to me. | |

Posted: 2/17/2006 2:03:49 PM | I have a strong belief that internet service based sites should be free if possible and that adverting other sites or products should be able to pay for the service that they offer. If that is not possible then offering free and paid portions that offer more accessibility is reasonable after all bandwidth costs money.
I always try to support the effort by clicking on ads every now and then and have found out some good information for my effort and sometimes even a product I didn't know I needed. However I am a sucker for a well thought out sales offering especially if they show me a way to make my life easier.
Thanks for the POF site it is truly a labour of Love in my humble opinion.

| Have you ever paid to use a dating site? Posted: 2/17/2006 2:17:34 PM | | Yup, I did. And after I canceled my membership, they charged me for another 6 months anyways. Just found out in December that I was still paying. Only person I ever chatted with is on POF and introduced me to POF. Been here since then. | |

| Have you ever paid to use a dating site? Posted: 2/17/2006 2:33:15 PM | I have dropped a very small amount on a reasonably priced pay site a couple times, because it was the only way to actually contact the women who had expressed interest. Of course, it never went anywhere :P
As opposed to those sites, on here there seems to be a huge local population.

| Have you ever paid to use a dating site? Posted: 2/17/2006 2:39:45 PM | I did and to be honest the women were not what I was looking for and the few that were seemed to be keeping my interest intact only long enough to re-up for another month or two and were always too far away to really matter one way or the other... Can we say "salted" as in template messages that were used to keep the paying customers around... I may not have met "The One" from here yet but I have been in touch with some beautiful people both on the inside and out... THANKS for the service you offer it does not go under appreciated... | |

| Have you ever paid to use a dating site? Posted: 2/17/2006 2:55:28 PM | | nope not yet. But i am not saying that i wouldn't in the future. See since im only 24 i know i have alot more options to meeting the opposite other than on here, i just choose not too go to those places anymore. But when im older, like divorced with 2 kids or something and i am to old to go out late at night...u bet i will pay. i just still have to many more options still. | |

| Have you ever paid to use a dating site? Posted: 2/17/2006 2:59:29 PM | Maybe it's just me, but paying just to meet someone just goes against the grain! I know that some say it's a security issue, but when anyone with 20 bucks can join up, how secure is that? Maybe I'm just old-fashioned (my kids would say a relic)! | |

| Have you ever paid to use a dating site? Posted: 2/17/2006 3:07:43 PM | Hi Markus! I was a member of udate. It wasn't a bad site and I met a lot of cool ladies. The problem was the charge. it was $35. dollars a month and I thought it very unfair. I didn't stay there very long. Off and on for a few months. Thank you for being the great person you are. Udate can't match the way you have done this site. The IM feature does not exist on Udate. Thanks so very much for your kind heart. I have only recently signed up and already I am getting responses. I can't thank you enough! Ron | |

| Have you ever paid to use a dating site? Posted: 2/17/2006 3:13:24 PM | Well...my only form of meeting people (men) is online nowadays...so this girl has shelled out quite the $$ shopping around the last years.... | |

| Have you ever paid to use a dating site? Posted: 2/17/2006 3:15:05 PM | Yeah I'm guilty as charged, but that was 2 years ago, pre POF, or way before I had heard of free sites. After paying their money I got me a life time membership........oh geez....I sure hope I'm not here that long!!! I made some awesome friends there and clicked with a few really hunky men, but, alas they didn't have the staying power, or umm the gonads to go through with a longterm relationship. Then admin went out of their way to delete all the lifetimers, cuz they were not getting any more money. So for whatever infraction of the terms of use, another one would bite the dust whether it was a bad word like s e x or someone ratting someone else out to have them deleted. I have tried Yahoo/Prime/Dream/Canadian/Flirt but they all want money, so armed with my lifetime membership and POF, I think I'll do ok.
POF has really taken over the dating sites overall in my opinion.

| Have you ever paid to use a dating site? Posted: 2/17/2006 3:44:48 PM | | yes I have a large fee which I paid off over 5 years then a monthly fee ,I did get some dates of course ,And the appeal of the dating site was that they check people's records out before they can be on site.SO much for that... I dated a guy who lied about being married and had a criminal records!anyway I am much more satisfied with this site..Also when I called the site to complain they had nothing to say. | |
