i've met some really cool people here on POF.....so thank you BigFish for allowing us to use your site at no charge

Posted: 2/17/2006 10:28:29 PM | yea, I have. Someone else said that a lot of the same faces are on multiple sites, so one should be able to assume that sooner or later you'll run across them here.
Overall free or pay, my jury is still out. 'Course my living in rural north Idaho might have a little influence on things too.

I met a nice man on American Singles and still have telephone contact with him every once in a while. He's from the Honolulu area. I was making plans to visit in Hawaii. I wrote to him and told him I didn't want a date or a boyfriend ... just wanted to know if he would give me some pointers about some nice places to go on the island of Oahu.
Although I did not request it, he picked me up at the airport and took me to my hotel, then he took me out singing (he knew that I sing Karaoke) and then back to the hotel. In addition, he took off work one day while I was there, picked me up at my hotel on his Harley and took me on a tour of the whole island. He had me out on that motorcycle the whole day. It was wonderful. Then he got busy with work and I never saw him again while I was on vacation.
The rest were all just "players" and not worth my time or money.
That reminds me ... we need to write to Dr. Phil and let him know what a rip off "Match" is!
At the same time, tell him how nice it is here in the Pond.

At least on a site where you have to pay a couple of bucks to truly communicate with somebody, you have a greater sense going in that the other person (if they reply) is genuinely interested.

However, I believe that you are right about a person being more "genuinely interested." But even though fewer on here, there are still some people that are "genuinely interested." Posted: 2/18/2006 12:29:24 AM | I am still waiting for the one. Met many men, mostly men who dont know what they want because what they want is not out there. I had a nice lunch date with a nice man. The first truly nice man I have met from the internet. I guess there is hope yet.
Been to many date sites, none worth paying for. The internet is a crap shoot. About 80 percent are married or in a relationship. That leaves only about 15 percent I view are truly available.
I believe finding someone on the internet is like winning the lottery. If i met someone, I will feel like I won the lottery. | |

But since I found POF I am so glad, there are still free and cool dating site in this world! Thank you, POF, You are the BEST!!!! | |

Posted: 2/18/2006 3:42:02 AM | Unfortunately yes. On those pay sites, I used to get truckloads of free smiles/icebreakers, whatever they were from guys who weren't paying. The guys who were paying seemed to figure they were automatically entitled to get laid by whomever they contacted - what a waste of my time & money!!!
Will I ever pay again? Not after finding POF... the forums make this site. Getting to know people through their posts and group events is much better, no pressure. I'm not even bothering to "fish" any more.... and that was only after attending one POF get together - the first of many I hope.  | |

Canucklehead, I think that's more an illusion than anything else. I think because you pay, you expect a quantifiable return. It's not been my experience that men on paying sites are any more interested. Here, I'm likely to get a response, whereas that wasn't the case on the other sites. | |
