| Help! Do all guys that live alone have empty fridges? Posted: 10/2/2008 8:37:26 PM | No, my ex's fridge is filled to the brim. He is obsessed with buying everything in bulk even though it's just him and a roommate, so the fridge is crammed tight with all sorts of junk. You have to take everything out of it to even get at one item.

| Help! Do all guys that live alone have empty fridges? Posted: 10/2/2008 10:01:49 PM | haha, I am definitely the same! There's usually some Juice or Milk or something like that in my fridge, but it always seems empty! It's not that I can't cook, but it's just easier to eat out! When I do get actual groceries, It's not more than 1 or 2 days of stuff that I can throw on the Foreman Grill :D

| Help! Do all guys that live alone have empty fridges? Posted: 10/3/2008 10:17:26 AM | It's not just guys, honey.
I'm an excellent cook. Yet when I'm alone (my kid spend entire summer with my grandparents), fridge is devoid of anything save light and beer.
I strongly suspect if I were utterly single, I wouldn't play house the rest of the year either.
As it is, youngster needs nutricious healthy meals and so I obey..

| Help! Do all guys that live alone have empty fridges? Posted: 10/6/2008 7:58:43 AM | | I think it's normal. All the single guys I know that live alone have empty everything. I know my brother fridge normally only has protien shakes and apples. Your lucky to get some toilet paper at his place. My cousin all their fridge normally has is beer and he lives with a bunch of guys. I just think guys eat out for all their meals unless they have a family or a girlfriend. Both probably make them broke so they start to eat at home to save money lol or girlfriends bring food over. I don't know why this is lol | |

| Help! Do all guys that live alone have empty fridges? Posted: 10/6/2008 3:49:39 PM | I am no cook, except for the ability to fry so most meals are eaten out except supper at my daughter's house. My fridge usually has ice cream, sliced ham, sliced cheese, tuna fish spread, pimento cheese spread and juices such as cranberry or blueberry/pomgranite. Perhaps a half gallon of non fat milk too.
Outside the fridge I keep peanut butter, bread and nectarines. Also have a liquor cabinet where occasionally I may be inclined to sample some wine or a margarita and keep the harder stuff for friends.

| Help! Do all guys that live alone have empty fridges? Posted: 10/6/2008 5:02:46 PM | I choose not to keep a lot in my fridge. And, when I do get stuff in my fridge, it tends to get eaten within a day or two, literally.
I mainly eat at work during the day, and out at night with friends, or a little snack because cooking takes up most of might night, if I choose to do that. I just choose to spend my money on other things rather than food. The microwave is also my friend.

| Help! Do all guys that live alone have empty fridges? Posted: 10/8/2008 4:36:39 PM | I've got rest of Vouvray in the fridge. And veggies. And bread, butter, condiments, ham, cupcakes, sausage, cheese, soup, potato latkes... Too much crap to list. As I said, the kid is home. And he's a "Bottomless Bukkit"
So the fridge shall be empty soon!
....and then I have to restock it..

| Help! Do all guys that live alone have empty fridges? Posted: 10/9/2008 4:02:21 PM | Ok, I have dated the "empty fridge" guys and generally by the time I leave they have the theory of how to shop, keep the fridge safe of the moving and green things that grow, and they learn to use the contraption on called the FREEZER! LOL But that doesn't mean that they don't still have a "empty fridge".
Ok, now some people just naturally like to keep their fridge clean(ie. empty) and so you feel as needed or when needed. But Kitty is really onto it.
If we didn't have to for the kiddos many of us would go with the keepin' it with just mostly light in it! And forget the other household things.....dishes what would they be???
Oh, my current BF came with a full stocked Fridge....I did have to remove the fuzzy things, but hey they weren't green....yet. Romantic

| Help! Do all guys that live alone have empty fridges? Posted: 10/9/2008 5:46:54 PM | | your not alone on the empty fridge front my friend. but i bet your cupboards are full of tinned things. It is hard to cook just for oneself, and I find it convenient (even though i can cook) to nuke everything in the microwave. When i hear...ping...its time to eat, i often dont use a plate as this is also a convenient way of not washing up afterwards | |

| Help! Do all guys that live alone have empty fridges? Posted: 10/10/2008 12:10:35 PM | I get what you're saying. First of all, kudos to you for at least cooking healthy meals for your daughter! That's definitely a good-dad thing to do
Second, nope. My fridge is ALWAYS full. I've long since learned the value of cooking from scratch, both on the health front and the $$$ front. Cooking using ingredients vs out of a box always gives you more bang for your buck, and less chemical preservatives. And as far as only cooking for one, there are several solutions to that. Here are some things I do:
1) Learn to reduce the amounts in recipes so that it IS just enough for you.
2) Have friends over for dinner.
3) Um, hello? Leftovers!!!
And as far as the fruits and veggies. Eat them before they go bad! They're good for you! Stop feeding your brussels sprouts to the dog!!!

| Help! Do all guys that live alone have empty fridges? Posted: 10/10/2008 12:26:08 PM | Actually...a lot of guys have their pantries and fridge and freezer stocked. They even recycle too. I prefer men that enjoys food. The most expensive restaurants don't always have the best food. Who would put more into their food than when you cook it yourself? I find men that enjoy different foods usually are a little more worldly. My ex (bf) is ultra-conservative and may have been coddled a bit by his Mother ...he had tons of processed foods in his fridge (when we met 10 years ago) ..and when he cooked me dinner his food was quite bland (cute effort though but definately not going to win me over with his cookiing-his effort maybe). Although he was health conscious enough to have fruits and veggies and vitamins and supplements. I mostly cooked for him when we lived together in KS, CA, and NM.
But yes...go grocery shopping. I live by myself and almost always eat all the food in my fridge before it spoils. I buy meat (good meat filets, t-bone, strip-steak, flank, chicken, pork, etc...) when it is on sale because grocery stores will utilize sales to lure you in. If, I buy more than a days worth than I take it out and wrap them in portions of one, two, or four to cater to my guest or just myself.
I don't eat fast food unless I am desperate but I love to cook (not clean-although my place is pretty clean) and have no problem keeping my fridge stocked as a single person living alone. It's a lifestyle. We always had a home cooked meal growing up. As a child I would be convinced to go to my friends house because they had "tons" of food....when I would go raid the pantry everything ( alot of it-hurricane style) would be canned or processed. I'd have to wait for my Mom or my grandmother to cook something so I can eat. I am told I am very picky with my food. I won't even go to a mediocre restaurant unless it was a good place to go socially or because my friends enjoy the place. I'd be very hesitant because I grasp every opportunity to feed myself well becauses I am so psychologically picky. My friends parents would leave money for pizza or something for their kids as a teenager. I guess that is the American way and of course they had a garden and my parents were in a grocery business so I was lucky, therefore I am not overweight and no one (10 kids and 2 parents) have weight issues in my family. Surprisingly, I grew up in Kansas too...it's slow paced out there and people still don't feed their kids right. Change is never easy but I can guarantee you will make yourself and others around you much happier when there is good food around.

| Help! Do all guys that live alone have empty fridges? Posted: 10/12/2008 10:25:05 AM | | It really doesn't take much time to cook at all. The more you cook the better you get. It takes less time to cook a meal than wait for it to be served. Florida doesn't offer a lot of restaurants with that great of food anyway. I'd travel just to eat good food. I feel sorry for some people and their fridge situation...food is some of the mot enjoyable things in life for me...2nd to only a few things. He he he. ;) Of course I am a big heodnist...anything I enjoy I love and seek. | |

| Help! Do all guys that live alone have empty fridges? Posted: 10/13/2008 8:42:37 AM | It is verrrrrrrrrry tough to keep a fridge for one i know. What i did was learn more dishes for types of foods and such. Say chicken i know i can eat 2 pounds in the day or two without being sick of it. Pasta is also great since it keeps well and is better after soaking in the sauce. Your right with the fruits and veggies its tough to eat them in time. Try finding more things freezable and learn how to quikthaw them or plan ahead. Tossing a bag of shrimp in the sink in the morning thaws them out nice by evening. I luckily love bagels wich are great power snacks and easy plus keep well in the fridge. I have also seen buddies in different houses next to each other share the same fridge/make dinner for 2 or 3 together wich is fun and more resourcefull. | |
