Ladies, what are your thoughts on pet snakes? If it's in a cage and you never have to see it or even know it's there, is it really so bad? | |

I'm think I'm OK with snakes but now that you mention it, sleeping over with a python in the house might be a bit disturbing.
Pass on the domesticated sewer rats. That'd be like having a lice farm or something. Or a roach aquarium.
Ooooo .. no ant farms either!! I have an irrational fear that they'll get out. Just looking at them makes my skin crawl. | |

So quit you're bashing ,grow up , & understand people are different & so maybe will have different pets. Until you've never had a pet rat you won't understand what im talking about anyway .
I used to keep pet rats too, so I do know what you're talking about. I never understood why people who have no problem with hamsters, as nasty as they are, are so repulsed by rats, which are smarter, friendlier, and more social. | |

Not saying there's any truth in this (I like all animals, 'cept roaches) but people generally associate rats with disease. When was the last time you saw a newpaper article about giant NYC sewer hampsters? | |

Gerbils are much cooler.
I'm missing a piece of meat about the width of an inkpen off the tip of my right bird finger because a hampster bit and wouldn't let go, and I literally had to tear the flesh off my hand to get him away from me (no sh!t). I don't know if the little rat **stard spit it out or ate the piece of finger. To this day I still have no feeling in that spot. | |

I have two cute female rats - they are sooo glad to see me every morning!
And they're smart! Smarter than some people I know of.
One of my rats, Syd, figured out how to open the cage door and taught Nancy and the babies how to do it. | |

Darth Claw (solid brown) was my favorite, then there was Yoda (hairless Dumbo rat), and Darth Fang (black hooded). I had a couple that I caught wild (one pulled off a sticky trap. couldn't stand letting him die like that, the other got into my parents place during a storm and I was called over to "rescue" it from the cats) but they weren't quite as friendly. | |
