| my date had pet rats ! Posted: 2/23/2006 5:45:27 AM | When I was thirteen I brought home Ivan and Igor. Both full grown male Hooded Rats that a friend of mine no longer wanted. My mother was on the verge of freaking out..for about two minutes, until she realized how friendly they were. Next thing ya know Mom's doing the dishes with a rat perched on each of her shoulders. Then all of us kids wanted a rat. My one sister bought two females. Before long we were selling the babies for 50 cents each to the local pet shops. Wild rats NEVER calm down in a cage, just as a wild wolf will not make a good pet. I also had an eight and a half foot long Burmese Python named Bossy. She prefered eating rabbits over rats..Never met a woman who couldn't appreciate the beauty of such an animal. | |

I say to you without hesitation that if I met a man who had a pet that he fed soft adorable live bunnies to I would be GONE in 60 seconds. I could even find the cage full of motown rats quirky in comparison.

| my date had pet rats ! Posted: 2/23/2006 5:56:34 AM | hooded rats?

I am picturing a 4 foot tall rat with a ski mask, big sharp yellow teeth and a handgun now..... who can fly !

| my date had pet rats ! Posted: 2/23/2006 8:32:51 AM | I was completely freaked out about rats until my roommate came home with one. She was the most friendly little thing ever! But she wanted to play with my cat and he didn't want to play with her so I frequently saw the rat chasing the cat around the house. They're very social, quirky and fun little critters. I would have to disagree with sewer rats, however, EW! And having an overabundance of the rodents would be a bad idea. | |

| my date had pet rats ! Posted: 2/23/2006 2:46:44 PM | The Hooded Rats are the cutest ones. They usually have a brown head, neck and shoulders followed by a white back and belly. They can also be solid in color. Than there's the Blue, Silver, Cinnamon and Hairless breeds. I'm sure there are more.
Remember, everything has to eat and rabbits are probably a number one meal for almost every predator out there, including the birds of prey.
BTW, I have seen thousands of rats in my day(know a couple of breeders) but can honestly say that you'll rarely ever see one bigger than a squirrel. Many people mistake Muskrats for the usual variety of rat, which I'm sure is why so many people think that a rat can be nearly the size of a cat.

| my date had pet rats ! Posted: 2/23/2006 2:50:57 PM | Quote here's a question for ya. To bring this into the context of dating again. If you met the woman of your dreams (whoever she is to you) and she was scared of snakes (or rats, whatever ... girls switch it to guys and the exotic pet of your desires) .... who would would you get rid of??
Reply If i met a women that had unconventional pets [lizards, rats etc],I would have no problem with it and would actually think it was kinda neat, with one exception ,if she raised Roaches and kissed them on the nose like most people do with their pets ,I would have to say we have no future. I realize that Roaches are also Gods creatures ,but i have a hard time not getting discusted ,I also realize this is my hang up not the Roaches.

Ok so that's why predators should be left "out there". I swear I have a new first date screening question, along with asking if they know anything about string theory. I'm going to want to know if they've ever bought and fed live bunnies to a pet before.
Do all hot guys do this??? Why?? Why??
EDIT: Steel ... you don't feed your snake bunnies do you??

Ball Pythons are gorgeous, with more interesting patterns than a tabby cat. At a vetoffice I once worked at we had a client bring in a snake that was near death for being attacked by a feeder rat. The !@#$-ing owner put the rat in when the snake wasn't hungry. We had to euthanized the poor snake.
FYI Rabbits carry paturella bacteria which people can contract and they have almost no immune system to fight it. I would rather kiss the snake that a so called cuddly rabbit.
|
| my date had pet rats ! Posted: 2/23/2006 6:35:18 PM | The !@#$-ing owner put the rat in when the snake wasn't hungry. See I bet in the wild the python gets to decide when it's hungry. And the rats know when to run.
I would rather kiss the snake that a so called cuddly rabbit. I'll be very honest with you. All animal jokes aside, and what makes a better pet and my pet can kick your pet's ass, and your pet has more germs than my pet and so on ...
I would rather kiss a man any day.

| my date had pet rats ! Posted: 2/23/2006 7:01:58 PM | | I've got a story that yas probably won't believe! I had a Ball Python about ten or so years ago. He was a young little guy, just getting past the "pinkie" eating stage(I won't explain this but I'm sure other snake owners will know what I'm talking about)and was use to people. I kept him in an octogon tank in my bedroom. Well, one night I'm sitting on my bed and the dog runs into my room and straight over to the tank. Mr.Snake got really scared and threw up and played dead. I got the dog out of my room and simply let the snake be, figuring he'll be OK with a little peace and quiet. The next morning I woke up and saw the snake was no longer "playing" dead, he had died. I still wonder if he didn't have a heart attack...This is no BS story! | |

| my date had pet rats ! Posted: 2/17/2008 6:33:51 PM | Hey now. I have a pet rat. ...or I should say a rat lives at my house - he's hardly a pet, he's more of a room mate.
Picture in profile.
He rocks. | |

| my date had pet rats ! Posted: 2/18/2008 12:35:03 AM | My highschool home room was in a biology lab. My friends and I looked after the rats. We named our favourites after Dallas characters.
One of my friends had a pet rat called Einstein. He had free run of his bedroom. Einstein used to sit on the nightstand at look down at the turntable when a record was playing. Eventually he would jump onto the turntable, as he went round on the record he would hit the arm of the player which would scratch across the record leaving Eintein happily riding in circles.
When my daughters were at the small pet stage, I suggested rats. Much more sociable than many other small animals. We also have a snake - 5ft California King, had him since he was a baby.
Pet snakes should be fed dead feeder mice (or what ever it is they eat). Snakes in the wild will eat dead food if they find it. Feeding live mice or rats can result in damage to the snake. Mice and rats don't want to be eaten and have defenses = teeth and claws. The post earlier about a snake needing to be put down due to damage from a feeder rat is testimony to the dangers of live food. Some snakes are really picky and will only eat live food if that is how they have always recieved their food, but if at all possible - to protect the snake - life food should be avoided. Wild mice/rats should not be fed to snakes due to the risk of disease.
Python's are constrictors, not poisonous.
|
| my date had pet rats ! Posted: 2/18/2008 12:39:45 AM | This is really improbable
these are nasty rates with rabies .
Rats with rabies are very rare....however almost 100% of wild rats have fleas.
