Seriously, I used to run a pet shop, and parents used to come in wanting a hamster for their kids, I used to try to steer them towards a rat. Rats are much better pets than hamsters. I did manage to convert quite a few!
It's a little unfair to say that pet shops are somehow worse than breeders to buy from. We always bought from breeders, and all our pets were sold with excellent advice. We had to close ours because of the large "pet suprmarket" type things now opening up in the UK. I fear for the future of the pet industry here to be honest. | |

Posted: 9/7/2008 4:05:11 PM | | I have a girlfriend who had pet rats, domesticated but still! not my kind of pet! but, I do have to relate a very funny story, I had a guy friend tell me he went on one of these internet dates and the woman shows up at the restaurant with a baby coach with her pregnant pet guinnea pig, she warned him she may have to leave if the guinnea pig goes into labor! It needed a c-section and she had to rush it to the vet! needless to say, he left immediately! | |
