I am glad you ride for "the Toys for Tots" but all the other stuff is wrong. Are you telling me you don't own a tv, microwave, stereo or other stuff that is made away from this country? Open your mind, just a little, the reason we ride is for the freedom!!!! The sun on our face and the wind in our hair!!!! RIDE LADIES RIDE!!!!!!
I wish you the best and ride safe!!!

Not really wanting to impress anyone, but have several friends/neighbors that are biker dudes and they and their wives and others, some complete strangers, have been very helpful and social. Since I like to meet new people, I thought I'd give it a try. I'm also slightly afraid of the bikes and I believe in facing your fears so ABATE here I come! (gulp)

Not to piss on your bonfire, but ABATE are a bunch of blithering idiots. Their "safety" guidelines are a joke. At best they are seriously misleading & at worse will get you killed. The crap they say about helmets are outright lies.

Hey, I miss having my bike and I totally understand the enjoyment of it.

But as a single parent, I can't justify making a monthly equivalent to a house payment on entertainment.

I guess status symbols do turn heads......The clotheing is cool.....not the tattoos.....leather jackets and bugs on your teeth.....but if you like acceleration and the vibration on your butt.......a girl on the back hanging on to you.....boobs on your back.....be sure and have good health insurance......airbags not required....

I ride my own Harley, that I bought myself, paid for myself, and even picked out myself. Most women who own one got it because of their husband or the man they were seeing. That doesnt mean I wouldnt ride on the back of someone I felt safe with...

And for the record, in no way, shape, or form is it written that Harley owners are white trash. I've never been, nor ever will be. It just shows an ignorance on your part for typecasting some of the best people on earth.

Believe me......I sold Hondas for several years......as long as you are aware of the danger.....bikes are very much fun......

Jay Leno is a biker fan.......and of course the Sturgis rally is amazeing.......

Harley has moved away from the "Hells Angels" image and concentrated on the more wealthy clientel........

Keeping up with the Jones' now includes a Harley.......what a rat race!

If I walk past a Honda VTX I think "how fun woul that be?". When I see a Harley, it's different. Some have made them to be status symbols, but there really is a difference in the ride as much as the looks.

It's the sound and vibration that only a harley can make. Once you ride a harely you will never go back. Have you rode a harley and then compared it to other bikes? I suggest doing that if you haven't. First go test drive other bikes, then take out a harley. You may understand then. For me this is how it is........I love the sound, the vibration, me sitting up high on the back of a harley.........nothing better!

Most woman and new riders aren't that knowledgeable about bikes. Some harleys are comfortable for a passenger, but any unbiased review will tell you not to waste your money on a harley. They mention the lack of power , reliability, and poor handling . The Japanese make a better bike , cheaper. Sorry, but harleys are just a fad.

Yes, I have. It's the sound - lots of noise and no real power.
and the vibration - the mirrors are useless.

That's why I ride a sport bike. On 2/3 of the engine capacity I have twice as much real power, more usable torque, it goes around corners like it is on rails, it's relatively quiet, the tank not only holds more gas but gets more miles per each gallon, and it's far more reliable. Did I mention cost? No comparison with Harley's overpriced junk.

Yeah, it's all about vibration, which is why bits fall off every time you ride one. Took a gal riding about a month ago who had only ever ridden on HD's. After experiencing a Kaw 1100 she's convinced she will never ride on the another Harley.
To quote her:
"I thought all bikes shook your fillings out like a Harley, this thing is so smooth!"

I actually owned a Harley for 3 months, I gave the damn thing to my Uncle. Biggest POS I ever had the misfortune to own.

My bike has service intervals around 15,000 miles.
Harley just DOUBLED theirs to every 3000 miles..
In the last 78,558 miles my bike has had one set of spark plugs swapped out, thats it. (oil/filter changes also, but that goes for all bikes obviously)
9 years old & it still has the original lightbulbs it came with....

What a great question for this site!

First, let me say that I think there should be a completely different site, just for Harleys.

I'm not talking about Harley r i d e r s...I'm just talking about the motorcycles. Yeah. Then the ladies could fish for the right machine, and when they find it, they could come back here, and pose with it in a photo!

Maybe that hypothetical site could contain two columns; one that had "MOTORCYCLES", and another that had "REAL MEN". Then it would be possible to select from both sides, and see how they look together. You know...accessorize your Harley.
The "real men" thing seems to be misunderstood. No one, expecially the men know what that means. If profiles would simply say "must be a Harley rider" it would be a lot easier.

Take it from an old fart. I owned a string of bikes, all Jap tin. now I look back with regret that I never had a Harley and look on it now as lost opportunity. Every time I see a pretty riceburner on the street I admire it, but no GoldWing brings out the sheer lust for twowheeling that you can feel when you hear that Harley rumble by. As for women, acceptance of love of a Harley should be the gateway to a guy's life. If she can't deal with his wheels he will find someone who can and even if he doesn't he still has the Harley.

Like I said if you have to ask that ? you wouldnt understand.

You think that's true just because your math teacher asid it to you?

No, silly - it's "If you have to ask, you don't understand". And probably not for the reason you didn't understand mathematics(ignorance), but beacuse it doesn't make sense in the first place.

But as a single parent, I can't justify making a monthly equivalent to a house payment on entertainment.

It's not the equivalent of a house payment, only a car payment. But that's only if you buy a real harley - you can get a Japanese copy and 99.99% of women won't know the difference. Seriously, check out the Yamaha Raider - it looks better than any harley made today and it costs a lot less.

Boy are you prejudiced! Most Harley's run in the $20,000 plus range. Mine was $38,000 plus. Most bike owners have a decent car, job and comfortable lifestyle. In fact, many are professionals (lawyers, doctors, business owners, etc..). You don't need to be a professional to ride one though, and I have met very few that I would ever consider white trash. If you don't like bikes, that's fine, just don't label all bikers because of it. Riding is a lifestyle that many people enjoy. It's no different than being into boating, cars or anything else. As far as women and Harley's, I've met plenty that love it but just as many that don't. Like anything else, it's a choice.

Harleys are all-american, powerful, loud,

One out of three is too bad.. I agree with the loud part..

Harley use Showa forks & rear shocks. Showa is owned by Honda.. & made in Japan
They use Italian electrics
Taiwanese carb's.. etc etc
Harley own a large factory in Brazil...They aren't there to make coffee...

Powerful? You're confusing noise with horsepower. Harleys make about the same power as a Japanese bike 1/4 of the size.. It's not that uncommon for them to be passed by BICYCLES along twisty roads.....

Harley Davidson is a "marketing" company...They sell a lifestyle to people who desperately need one.

Harley stock keeps me in Japanese bikes. Please keep buying them.

95% of Americans would buy a Harley.... which just happens to coincide with the fact that 95% of the people don't know the first damn thing about bikes :)

What a moron!!!

Life and motorcycles are a matter of choice. Most Harley owners give full respect to fellow riders of all makes of motorcycles. Your comments about "smaller gas tanks", vibration causing parts to fall off" and "getting passed by bicycles" show your complete lack of knowledge and facts. About half my friends ride Harleys and the other half ride metric bikes. With the exception of the older Sportsters, most Harleys have a larger fuel capacity than metric bikes. I often stop and refill with over a quarter tank of fuel remaining, so that friends on metric bikes don't run out of fuel. I choose Harley because of comfort and weight. I tend to cruise around 70 to 80 m.p.h. on the highway. I'm sure that many metrics can cruise faster, but that's just dangerous, and if a bicycle ever does pass me at that speed, I promise to park my bike "and go green"!

Admittedly, even modern Harleys with Evolution engines and rubber-mounting require more maintenance than their metric equivalent, but a wrench and some lock-tite prevent me from ever having lost a part. I would hope that even if you've never had to tighten a part on a Japanese bike, that you're smart enough (and competent enough) to realize the need to spend time doing routine checks and maintenance. perhaps you should spend more time getting layed, to relieve some stress and less time trashing people over things you know very little about.

Wow....i think I've seen and read it all....It's funny how people make assumptions based on the 'information' they have...be it true or not. I would have to say that it would be wonderful to meet someone on here who rides a motorcycle, but that isn't a MUST HAVE. From my Profile: "Please don't think you know who I am or the kind of person I am based on how I look with my ink and all....You might just be shocked to know who the real person is...and probably not what you were expecting." I just have to laugh that people are so judgmental and the 'white trash comment'....WOW....It almost seems to silly to even get into this post..but I just have to wonder why it is that SOME men continue to think they can 'write the rules' for the rest of humankind....

Here's my next profile post...

Wanted : Man with a motorcycle, good looking, well hung, gentleman, tall, young, hard body, short dark hair preferred, not affiliated with any motorcycle club, as I will not wear someone's colors...must like romance, tattoo's and a woman who is intelligent...yep, I have a couple of college degree's...AND I RIDE MY OWN BIKE....(now Im sure that shocks some of you) MUST be willing to engage in intellectual conversation about the universe, Karma, as well as politics, religion and be willing to love me JUST THE WAY I am....

So tell me what a think~!~

Actually, I just like motorcycles....doesn't have to be a Harley. I'm not impressed with the "crotch rockets", but ... for example....my housemate (female) has a Yamaha that she got as a plain jane....just a white simple bland bike. She designed what she wanted and it's now a "john deere" bike...painted green/yellow, with lots of JD accessories. I'd love to have my own bike, but I'm paying for a house so it'll have to wait. I love to ride with someone that's safe and responsible....but if "he" feels the need for speed, I'll get off and wait for him to get it out of his system....lol. As for the noise....the housemate's Yamaha makes plenty, especially when it's in my storage building running (we're doing our part to annoy the neighbors) LOL

Harleys are loud and impressive (on the outside) ... and are unreliable and mediocre at best on the inside ..... Don't fret. Otherwise they are basically bolts and pieces from all over the world (and many of the Harley riders don't even know it.)
