A man owning/riding the motorcycle presents an aura of a rebel.
Freedom of not being enclosed like in a car, plus the cool Marlon Brandoesque factor.
An element of danger. Women eat that up.
A man in a biker leather on a motorcycle looks masculine than a guy in a suit driving a car, even if it a Mercedes SLR.
In short: the Fonzie factor. Cool.
Women and motorcycles. Given they have cash, it makes the equal with the men in that they now have a machine at their disposal whenever they want to ride.
The "so this is what it's like/this is what its all about" factor. Thre feeling of nature as you feel the wind and smell the flora as one flies through the country roads.
It is said it is an intense feeling.
In short: FREEDOM.
As far as the HD being a vibrator, I am sorry to report, HD has made vast improvements in comfort. Maybe, just maybe, the flaw still exists with the 1200 cc Sportster model.
The only flaw HD will never tamper with is the mechanical setup of the crank and pin.
Its degree configuration is what provides the trademark staccato sound: Potato-potato-potato-potato. This flaw was never corrected and it will never be. What may happen is that
dampeners or motor mounts will be improved to absorb the vibration energy. HD will not eliminate it entirely, but diminish the amplitude/frequency.
For as long as HD sticks to V-twins with the crank&pin set up that it has, the machines will preety much be the same...maybe with fuel injection overtaking the carberated motors.
If one wants the vibration, get the pre-Evolution (Blockhead) engined motorcycles.
ie. the Shovelheads, Panheads, Knuckleheads (Flatheads are exceedingly rare).
I do not think HD will ever go to the inline (I-3, I-4) setup like Triumph did.
It would make them vastly more powerful, more efficient, and more comfortable. | |

I found out that it's the character of the person riding one or not riding one that was important. Personally, after the so-called "baby boomer's" interest in bikes I began to lose a lot of interest the character of anyone who owned a harley because they were the very same idiots that drove up the prices on muscle cars during the late '80s and early '90s. Right now I wouldn't give a diddler's f*ck for any chic who showed up on a harley and I've owned many bikes and muscles cars over the years. Why? Because they're just following fads. For crying out loud, when are people going to grow up and stop equating their worth to a piece of crap?
I'm sorry that I may have insalted some fools out there that actually believe that chevy's or harley's are the great "i am's" of the world but to be Frank, or John or Pete or even Charley for that matter, who the hell gives a shit if you own one type of rust bucket or another?

I have been doing some reading on some machines.
My fave: Triumph Rocket III
This machine has 140 bhp, 147 lbf torque, derived from a 2.3 liter 3 cylinder engine and shaft final drive. Plus this bike has the classic cruiser aesthetic-a classic.
For those that like Harly like machines, I hear there are kits where you can literally assemble the whole bike at home. | |

Im not hung up on whats in or not, my first vehicle 16 years ago was a lifted 85 bronco with 38's.....current vehicle is an 05 f150 lifted with "smaller" 33's. I have always owned a truck, some lifted, some not. I grew up and live in a farming community, plus i hunt and a truck is more suitable. Lifting a vehicle, or lowering it for that matter is just a way of making it your own. Has nothin to do with genital size....lol. Been riding bikes since i was a kid, from dirt bikes, to my first, and second honda. My main reason for getting a harley is for one thing, resale value. When i sold my last 2 hondas, i got pay-off, thats it. My harley is an investment as when i go to sell it or trade it in on another bike in 5 or so years, i wont loose my ass. I dont surf the net to meet chics, im married and my wife chose my username. Im tough because i was brought up that way. Not"toughguy" tough, but mentally and pyscologically. Im actually a nice guy...lol. But, nevertheless your opinions are duely noted and forgotten! | |

anyways. when i was rideing it for a few years, it didn't turn a damn womans head at me at all.
My one girlfriend could give a crap less i had a motorcycle too.
Yea, i'm really negative if you read my posts on women likeing me.

Ever notice the risks people on motorcycles take while driving? I tend to speed, especially on the freeway, but God, those guys are passing me and weaving through traffic at ridiculous speeds!
And it's not just them -- too many insane drivers in cars, SUVs, massive trucks, etc...
Yet my sister adores them. She's getting her lisence to drive a motorcycle and will soon be buying her own. I'm already cringing... | |

The reason people on motorcycles, who drive responsabily unlike the idiots on the crotchrockets weaving through trafic, is because of drivers not paying attetion. TO busy on cell phones. Rideing to close to motorcycles.
Just basic ignorance is why most motorcyclists get hurt by other drivers. A motorcycle is really safe compared to a car. I can stop way faster. I can avoid obsticals a lot quicker also.
THe problem is that people dont look out for me.
I ride responsabily. I'm not doing 120 down the freeway between cars.
Those guys deserve to get hurt. | |

Tradings horses....the times have changed but the practice has not.
When the day comes to buy that HD, I will never sell it. I will ride it till it starts to fall apart. Even then I will probably keep buying after market parts just to keep it running.
Just to work on one is way cool. You get to know intimately the machine and appreciate the work of the craftsman who who create and also modify these motorbikes. | |

Been riding for 35 years now, had numerous chances to snatch one up, but something has always stopped me.
Maybey the fact that so many of my bikin' buddys rides spent more time in the shop than on the road?
Or trying to get it going again on the side of the road while the rest of us waited?
Or the fact that a 24 y.o. 500cc dualsport can keep up with one in a drag race???
I'd still like to own one, but im just TOO much of a "best bang for the buck" kinda guy.
Love the sound, looks, etc. But they just cant hang with the "big four" for power, reliability, & overall performance.
Plus some of those guys are real snobs!
There are cool one out there too, but i run into a lot of the "banker/lawyer/accountant bikers" who flip the finger or sneer at anything other than a hawg.
Doesnt matter what you ride, as long as your RIDIN'!!  
And for the dude with the lifted Bronco.

Here in my neighborhood in Detroit MI, there are plenty of different types of machines.
I have seen Nortons, old Triumphs, the Japanese bikes both in Cruiser or race form.
But one thing for sure, I hear quite often the sound of the Harley Davidson motorbikes.
These bikes have the mufflers removed and the straight pipes installed.
God how I love that sound.
When I buy that motorcycle, prefereably 1200 cc Sportster, it will be because of the way it looks the way it sounds they way it was made and hopefully the way it will make me feel as I take the bike on twisted roads. Nay, for the long haul, the FAT BOY...or a Dyna Glide.
I do agree with the posters, I hate those snob yuppie @ssholes who are trying to act like the rebels they are not. Those wussies would not last one minute next to the outlaw bikers in my hood, and believe me, those are some tough dudes. Those are posers and you can spot them, by the way they act..Billy Idol wannabees. They will only piss certain people off and get their faces beat in. Therefore I say be cool with everyone and enjoy the ride the machine will give you,...and oh, carry the tool set just in case.
If one wanted to blow boith the HD's andthe Japanese bikes out of the water:
Triumph Rocket III.
A true biker will ride the machine till it falls apart ..well I am sure he will keep it running, but you get my drift. The 100's of thousands of miles will show on the wear and tear on his leather and on the motorcycles, those are things money can not buy: character and experiences.
Buy the machines because its performance, not because of how you look on it.
As for the women and motorcycles, for some reason, most gorgeous babes are the ones that ride with a Japanese sport bike rider..The Britney Spear lookalikes
As for the girls attrcated to HD's...they are of a wide spectrum...from eyeball blindingly HOT!!! ...to what looks like someones middle aged mama...to what looks like escpaped from a redneck farm. | |
