| Best places to meet people after 45 Posted: 8/8/2007 8:00:12 AM | | If you'd like to expand your horizons (regarding nationalities and ethnic groups) AND if you speak another language, sign up as an ESL (English as a second language) volunteer. Further, you can meet a lot of interesting folks by taking "continuing education" (read: older, working people) classes for foreign languages (or any other course of instruction) spoken in places you'd like to visit. Community colleges are great, as are of course universities and 4-year colleges. | |

| Best places to meet people after 45 Posted: 8/14/2007 11:42:44 AM | Wow! I highly recommend an organization like the Moose, Elks, Eagles, etc. So many members are single, it is always a safe place to go alone, and always something going on from dances, dinners, Kareoke, pool tournaments, ladies nights, live music, or just a place to meet new people. Membership is cheap, and they always make you feel welcome. Most are a well kept secret it seems. I just joined a lodge with over 1700 members........its great fun! | |

| Best places to meet people after 45 Posted: 8/15/2007 7:02:35 AM | | A couple months ago, I started taking Imperial dance lessons. I also do other types of dances. In most cases, when you go to singles dances, there are more men than women. That's what I saw four or five years ago during my last relationship. | |

| Best places to meet people after 45 Posted: 8/15/2007 9:16:16 AM | gentlemen: Last year I went on a cruise by myself. There were OODLES of my age good looking single women travelling alone or w/ other females..A man could be like a hunter, shooting ducks in a shooting gallery on such a cruise...there are inexpensive ones & you can get to know some women while also havinga vacation. Ask your travel agent about SINGLES cruises too!
Me I went to & | |

| Best places to meet people after 45 Posted: 8/15/2007 10:14:50 AM | Oddly ... I think one of the best places to meet people after 45 is right here, on the internet, on places like this website. By time we are Over 45, most of us have out-lived the 'bar life', 'picking up da babes' on the beach and most of the other standard options of our more youthful years. So to meet people, I've found the internet to be an invaluable tool. And before people remark that it just builds an imaginery, megabyte world for ourselves, I'll say that since I've come on-line and in sites like this the last few years or so, I've worn out one vehicle and am well on my way to wearing out my second. The internet just shows me places that I'd like to go and the people that I'd like to meet when I get there.

| Best places to meet people after 45 Posted: 8/15/2007 4:21:36 PM | Places that have worked for me recently:
While riding the city bus.
While standing in the checkout line at the grocery store.
While sitting on a bench at the prettiest park in the city, eating my lunch.
Here at Plenty of Fish.... No success on the other dating sites I tried, but I've made several friends here, from all over the world.
In my neighborhood, by simply saying "Good morning" or waving to someone as I pass by.
I no longer dance - not fast anyway, and lost interest in the bar scene long ago, so I just "take the bull by the horns" and strike up conversations whenever, wherever I can.

| Best places to meet people after 45 Posted: 8/15/2007 5:17:03 PM | angelicblondie.. gotta watch out for those cruise dudes... they hang around the dock just belfore the boat sales and can get free trips from the cruise lines because there are so many single women cruising alone these days... they do have to sign a promise they will not "bed" the customers but will be available to dance and escort sinlge women...!!!
Good place to meet someone.. at the Harley Dealership they have battle of the bands. The library... lectures and interest groups. Local ecology groups.. ours get together to kayak, or clean up the waterways together.
Lots of ways to meet... here!

....More men than woman he says.... hmmmm, I always did want to wear one of those sexy little outfits and have a reason to get up close and personal on the dance floor...one two three , turn....one two three turn.

I am going NOT to meet a cruise dude...but to have a great time. Many other women did so when I went last year. Met a bunch of women in their early 50's who look fabulous...there were also late 40's women who looked nice, had nice dispositions, were fun, etc. It would be a GOLDMINE for a man...
As for me, I don't need a seaside gigolo, at least one local gentleman from here has offered me his services for free

| Best places to meet people after 45 Posted: 8/16/2007 7:16:21 PM | schadenfreudian, I had a good belly laugh when you suggested the recovery room as a great place to meet people. It really isn't an off-the-wall idea at all!!
Several years ago I struck up a conversation with another patient in the surgical waiting room, and ended up meeting up with him again when we happened to have our six-month check-ups on the same day. He said I looked much better in street clothes than I did under a sheet, LOL!!!! We didn't date, but kept in touch for a few years after that.
Another time, when I landed in the emergency room with an infection in my leg, I flirted with the man in the next bed, only to find out he had inoperable stomach cancer. His daughter came in to see him and verified what he had told me. We prayed together then shared a few laughs and a few tears. This short, but powerful interaction left a lasting impression on me.

| Best places to meet people after 45 Posted: 8/17/2007 11:36:19 AM | | I had a young lady awkwardly introduce herself the other day, and things just went silent between us. Seems that you need an ice breaker, or short conversation first before sticking out your hand and introducing yourself. There needs to be some chemistry first, before introductions IMHO. | |

| Best places to meet people after 45 Posted: 8/17/2007 11:43:26 AM | "Getting involved in politics is a great way to meet people of like mind. . . . "
My parents suggested this to me recently. I do think you would find people with similar values.

| Best places to meet people after 45 Posted: 8/17/2007 12:29:58 PM | If you are from Detroit, I used to live there and go to the singles professionsals club dances there. Is that still going on? They used to have them in the ballrooms of different convention centers in the suburbs. I always met people there, not my "soul mate" but better than bars and always good for a few laughs. Now in Cal, we don`t have anything here like that. So I stay home alot. We do have some nice boomer oreinted restaurant bars, but so meat markety that I won`t go. It is just an ordeal! | |
