| Best places to meet people after 45 Posted: 9/14/2007 9:56:17 PM | | Best for me has been ballroom dancing events and contra dances. There are several women at the gym I'd like to know, but when I am there it's to work out not meet women. But then again, most of the women there are much younger than me and I prefer women my age or at least within 10 years difference either way. | |

...I'm not so sure I would go to a gym with the intention of trying to meet someone either, besides...I'm not particularily thrilled at the prospect of someone seeing me all damp and sweaty.

| Best places to meet people after 45 Posted: 9/17/2007 3:46:28 AM | Still, there's a lot to be said for seeing someone at the gym glistening with a little sweat from exercising and all pumped up!
One other great place to meet people, at least for me, is festivals and parades. I can usually spot several single women that are together and walk up and start talking. You'd be surprised at how many really nice people you can meet that way!

I take dance lessons, go to fairs and festivals (at least in the summer!) and motorcycle rallies. I meet people wherever I go. Just haven't met that special one yet.

| Best places to meet people after 45 Posted: 9/18/2007 7:08:21 AM | Hey guys and gals,
I don't think its so much about "where", its about attitude, self confidence, and being able to recognize body language. Be a flirt ... it's the easiest way to break the ice with someone, in a casual, non-threatening way. How the other person responds will be your cue, so pay attention.
I stead of looking down counting your change at the supermarket, look up at the cashier, and talk to her ... ask if it's been busy (or dead) like this all day ... tell her / him how lucky they are working in an air conditioned store .. it's 32 degrees out there ... it doesn't matter what, just say something.
When they closed down the Loblaws supermarket at Pinecrest, one cashier I had taken the time to chat with ended up at Carlingwood. I happened to go to her cash once, and she was excited as could be, happy to see, as she put it, "a friendly and familiar face". Nothing came of it, save dinner that evening and coffee at lunch a few times since, if I'm in the area, but even casual friendships like this can be and are rewarding.
I had a great lunch date recently with a cashier at Canadian Tire. The initial "flirting" was one time when I had close to $50.00 in "Canadian Tire Money" .. we must have counted it five times .. as other customers waited in frustration. Last week I noticed something different, she had cut and colored her hair, so I commented on her "new look". She was happy 'someone' noticed. Somehow the conversation got to lunch, she was off shortly, and we went to lunch together. There she told me she would have been disappointed if *I* hadn't noticed her hair, as I was one of few customers who ever noticed her, as a person, at all.
And the thing is, guys, at our ages, flirting is, and rightly so, a lot easier than it would be if we were in our twenties.
And you ladies ... flirt too, you'll find men will respond positively.
IMHO

Can be at your local zoo, public garden, charity event, or any of a number of public/private entities that utilize a volunteer force. Many communities even have a volunteer 'career' day to help local organizations connect with willing individuals. The advantage is that you can be active at something that interests you and thus meet like minded people who have at least that in common.

| Best places to meet people after 45 Posted: 9/19/2007 5:27:12 PM | Someone should do a David Letterman top 10 type of thing with some of these responses. I especially liked the cemetery one and the one about looking in the laxative isle of the grocery store. | |
