|
| Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia Posted: 12/1/2006 8:27:11 AM | ah yes ... anything is possible .... I think the last time I went was probably around 1973 before I took off to Guelph ... I sure remember a couple of good tumbles too ... but mostly great people and good laughs. And I know some of you will remain in my hear forever. ... with Phil spinnin the tunes. [what I'd give to run into those Ireland sisters again ... thanks for the smiles] | |

| Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia Posted: 12/3/2006 8:40:21 AM | I spent almost every weekend of my childhood there. I was really sad to see it torn down when I was around 15. There is Scooters in Mississauga too. Alot of the "regulars" from the Terrace skate there now. I did too. till I moved away | |
|
| Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia Posted: 12/3/2006 9:12:35 AM | I used to go to Scooters as well....a friend told me all the "old timers" hang out there....I should check it out.
There was another place in Mississauga as well north end near the 401 can't remember the name and also one in Oakville.
Memories..........the good old days when I didn't have so many damn bills and the hardest decision was how to do your hair or what to clothes to wear...lol

| Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia Posted: 2/10/2007 12:40:13 AM | My last memory of the Terrace on Mutual..
New years Eve, 1988, the Terrace had a New Years skate on! Before I could bother to skate, I was assaulted by some asian guy, who busted a juice bottle over my nose!
I went to the hospital to get my nose stiched up at the Hospital, went back roller skating at the Terrace finished the session and left. I feel asleep at Yonge and Bloor Subway Station and woke up in the Hospital ! Falling asleep on the subway with a concussion is not a good idea !

| Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia Posted: 2/10/2007 1:06:02 AM | | Wow, now this is memeries, the good ol Terrance one night and the otehr nite at Mimico...yep the lockdowns in Scarborough, in at 7 out at 7 or 8 in the morning...Always got busted by the guards for dancin and speeding close to the boards, well at Mimico, there were not boards there, but anyways....I did visit many rinks Mississauga, etc, and even worked for a place that made the rentals....was great cause for my birthday, I got to make my own skates, so they were customized and only paid the actual cost....the same skate in the rinks would have been doubled...... | |
|
| Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia Posted: 2/11/2007 9:12:16 PM | | Yeah i spent many a Thurs, Fri, and Sat night at the Terrace. Best place in the world to skate and meet people. Just like another poster I found out what the inside of the nearest hospital was like but that was caused by 2 people in front of me falling during the trio skate..... what could I do but jump them....lol......not good when you land on your knees. Crutches took me home that time. Was very sad the day they closed it and there hasn't been another rink that compares since. | |

| Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia Posted: 2/12/2007 4:07:22 AM | Oh yeah!!!!
Thanks for the memories. A bunch of us would go to the Terrace and then for coffee to the Riverboat to hear a young singer who was just getting started named Gordon Lightfoot. Kareoke at the Brunswick House was a lot of fun too after skating at the Terrace.
Those were great times.

| Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia Posted: 2/12/2007 4:40:57 PM | I have been to Wheelies in Whitby (public school) and then we moved to Napanee and the big night out was hopping on a school bus to go roller skating in Kingston. I think there is a place in Orillia that has roller skating every now and again...would love to try it again sometime...

| Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia Posted: 3/22/2007 1:12:54 PM | The New Terrace Roller Skating Rink. It saddens me and makes me furious that the City of Toronto reneged on a promise they made back in the early 90's and that Councillor Tom Jakobek was the one who argued against the rink and convinced the city to not follow through on Jack Layton’s hard lobbying for the popular sport of roller skating. Roller skating is a wonderful sport that has something for everyone from very small children to the elderly. It is a great low impact, great cardio, and has wonderful social aspects. Roller skating whether it is in-line or quad is more popular than Councillor Kyle Rae leads you to believe because he is trying to shove this artsy, fartsy center down Toronto’s throat. I highly doubt that the kids of today will be flocking to this venue and even in-line skates which is supposedly more popular according to Rae could benefit from an indoor rink, especially in the winter months, not to mention the newly emerging Roller Derby Leagues which has more teams than I have fingers. There are many people that remember the Terrace and roller skating in a romantically retro way but anyone who knows anything about roller skating knows that Jam Skating, Roller Derby, Rhythm Skating, Speed Skating, Roller Hockey and Artistic Skating are popular all over the world and with new movies and advertisements like “Roll Bounce”, “ATL”, IPOD, and Coca Cola Ads, just to mention a few bringing it back into the forefront, not to mention the recent Documentary on the History Channel on the popular TV show “Things That Move”, most Torontonian’s will never know what they are missing because of Toronto Council’s mistake. When is the last time you took your family out? Let say just to the movies or bowling, how much did it cost? Most families don’t do this very often because it is not affordable but for $6.00 or $7.00 you can go to a nice rink with great music, happy people and get some fun exercise for about 3 or 4 hours, even movies are only 2 hours and with the proper management there can be Day Camps, Mothers and stroller rolls for mothers who want to get some exercise but don’t want to push babies down snow covered sidewalks, seniors skates so seniors have a place to meet, socialize and get good exercise, and family rates. Roller skating today is much more than Disco Balls and Donna Summer, someone didn’t do their homework, or just doesn’t care about the average folks that live in this city. I am sure that City Council will get a big pat on the back by the important people, when and if this property gets developed, but for me I will be skating the dangerous street of Toronto because I don’t have a rink to skate in and I guess it is cheaper to get 200 new officers for the downtown area than it is to put money into the youth and give them a place to be and thrive. London, Ontario City Council has seen the benefits of having a roller rink and has invested in putting a new roof on and renovating the N.L.O.C.C. at Highbury and Cheapside and the skating community is very thankful. Because the City of Toronto did not do the right thing when they had the chance, this will always be an embarrassment to the City of Toronto.
Sincerely, Robert | |

| Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia Posted: 3/22/2007 3:51:56 PM | OMG The Terrace!!!! Hell ya!!!!
I remember when I was 15 going there in the early 80's. I couldnt skate worth a crap but looked good in my skin tight jeans!
To this day everytime I hear that song "Follow You, Follow me" by Genesis I immediately think of the Terrace. I remember tho the extreme horror I used to feel when I had just mastered rollerskating one direction and suddenly "Skaters slow yourselves down" to switch the other way, aaaaaaaaaaah
After Skating we'd hang around Younge street. Aaah, the good ole days.
|
| Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia Posted: 4/11/2007 9:08:35 PM | | I remember the Terrace use to skate there all the time and the Mimcombo, Rollar Palace. If I remember correctly they did a few sence for the Heat of the Night and a Haywire video there. | |
