| Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia Posted: 4/12/2007 4:59:31 PM | My late husband and I used to go to the Terrace every Friday night in the late 60's. We were teens & had a wonderful time. I was so sad when it closed.
Because of our roller skating experience there, when we volunteered at a community center in Cabbage Town, we started a new game - basketball on rollerskates. I am only 5'1" & can't make a basket from the floor if i tried, but on roller skates, I rarely missed.
I haven't been on roller skates in over 30 years, but would love to go again.
I just glanced through a couple of the posts here, but one did catch my attention. Yes there is a roller skating rink at Bond and Center in Oshawa.
Maybe we could get a skating party going there one night.

| Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia Posted: 4/13/2007 9:00:32 AM | Was a Cruiser at the Scarborough Roller Palace for a short period. Also used to go to the Mississauga Roller Palace, the Terrace, Roller World in Hamilton & Agincourt.
Fun times. Lots of memmories. The roller blades of today just to not lend themselves to the same abilities and talents of roller skating to music. Way back them, roller figure skating (same idea as on ice) was an event in the PanAm Games. Actually knew a silver medalist.
Wow, do I feel old all of a sudden.......
Best memmories of back them was waltzing on wheels. Always with the same girl. Never dated, but we just gravitated for the waltzes to each other. Wonder what ever happened to her (Heather, are you out there?).

| Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia Posted: 11/2/2007 10:34:12 PM | Wow the good old Terrace - it was my home away from home back in the 70's. I loved to skate!!! I remember after going to the Terrace a bunch of us would hop the subway and go out to Warden Station and skate around lol. I also remember the old guy who use to always skate in the middle - can't remember his name. I remember once a year there would be a skate a thon on the little side street south of Yonge and Dundas for an entire week end lol it was lots of fun. I was a regular that was for sure! Use to even skate the miles for millions back then. I remember quite a few people from back then and always wondered where they ended up. Geez I even met my first boyfriend at the Terrace lol.
Great memories and a huge part of my life back in the day.

| Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia Posted: 11/4/2007 12:40:45 AM | Yes, the Terrace was great! I went a quite a few times and loved each time. It's a shame that Roller Rinks in Toronto have such bad luck. Not too long ago, a club called Kool Haus (a part of what was known as RPM's and is now The Government) use to have what they called "Roller Boogie" nights every Sunday. This went on for a few years but was closed down for unknown reasons (most likely because they were serving large amounts of alcohol to a bunch of people on wheels... lol). A POF get together at one of the rinks just outside of the GTA sounds like a great idea, I am definately going to watch this thread in case something pops up! | |

| Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia Posted: 2/4/2008 2:43:54 PM | I never made it to the Terrace when it was open except for maybe once, I have a very vague memory of going there once. I skated regularily in the West end mostly (Wheel World, Great Skate Place, Roller Works, Roller Palace, Scooters). Scooter's in Mississauga has a Terrace reunion every year in the spring.
I host a Charity Old School Roller Jam late skate every year as well! This year it's on Saturday April 19th from Midnite till 4am. Admission is 15 bucks at the door and proceeds of the nite go to the Salvation Army. It's held at Scooter's Roller Palace, 2105 Royal Windsor Dr in Mississauga. So, limber up and come join us! Feel free to message me for more info!
There's still great skating to Old School tunes every nite at Scooters as well!

| Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia Posted: 2/5/2008 8:54:10 AM | Oh WOW! Now you're really taking us back in time, eh? Spent many nights at the Terrace, Rollerworld and Scooters..... there was one up on the mountain in Hamilton too we used to travel to for all nighters. I even remember going all the way to Buffalo for all nighters! We must've been nuts! lol
Spent just about every waking moment at the Canadiana Roller Rink in Aurora, though.... worked there, skated there, grew up there. I was a cruiser, a dj, a snackbar girl, a box office girl.... loved that place and all the people there! Still get funky to One Way and Pull Fancy Dancer or Sugarhill Gang's Rappers Delight, but the one that was the epitome of the Canadiana was Good Times by Chic!!! What a blast! Thanks for the thread...
Hope to make it to Scooters in April..... gotta find my skates!

| Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia Posted: 2/6/2008 5:37:11 AM | | I used to hang out at a place in Burlington called Roller Gardens(across from movie theatres and Chuck E Cheese). I was lucky enough to have parents or brother to drive me there regularly..... | |

| Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia Posted: 2/6/2008 6:22:09 AM | why did they tear it down? it seemed popular enough and in good shape. i remember lining up for what seemed like forever to get in.
i remember the keystone, the brunswick house, Forbes tavern, Sams etc.
remember when they would close yonge st to traffic in the summer and all the teenagers would hang out there?

| Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia Posted: 2/11/2008 10:58:24 AM | | I didn't roller skate at the Terrace, but I sure did my fair share of "Booting" at the outdoor rink at Sauble Beach. Oh my god...............what memories! It used to be 7 days a week. A little arena near me has rollerskating year round on Friday nights. Guess what.............I can still shake my money maker!!!! lol (Its just that there's a little more to shake these days) | |

| Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia Posted: 2/12/2008 6:54:19 PM | I went to the Terrace once.............................................................. Got told to slow down by the cruisers, then told I could not lift my feet when skating???What the hell was that about? I couldn't enjoy the music and bop to the tunes. Then they told me I had to lace my skates up all the way util, I drew my pantlegs up to reveal that I was wearing Reidell "Jets" (half boots) and then they had a problem with that. They weren't Snyders so they were prejudice against that I suppose but I coudl waltz with the best or bop with the greatest! I got so pissed off I swore I would never return as they just made my night very miserable for some reason. I could have been my long hair or maybe the way I bopped but who knows.
Not an enjoyable rink memory!

| Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia Posted: 2/12/2008 7:00:41 PM | Hey Brucepeninsulagirl! I used to almost live at the Sauble rink during the summers of 75-about 82. The old woman that owned the rink really loved that song "my boyfriends back" didn't she? Played it at least once nightly..... You are referring to the rink by the main highway (now a restauraunt)across the road from the Sauble Lights greasy spoon cafe, and not the one up the road at the waterslide and go-cart track? I lived up there in the late seventies in Port Elgin but hung out a lot at Sauble. Do you know "Denise" from dairy Queen or "Wunderlich" from the pin ball arcade? I read your profile and we are close to the same age. | |

| Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia Posted: 2/15/2008 5:20:18 PM | | OMG - The Terrace! I forgot about that place. What great memories I have. I met so many people there and went every weekend in the afternoons from 11 years old to 15 years old. The same crowd would then go to The Roxy in the evenings! SO much fun! | |
